In Defense Of 'Metroid Prime 2: Echoes'

Goomba Stomp: "The Metroid Prime Trilogy is rightly regarded as one the finest gaming series ever created. The original Metroid Prime was a revelation and is still held up as one of the best games of all time. The sequels built on this template, while offering enough fresh ideas to stop them from becoming stale are less beloved. But if you ask most people which is the weakest of this trilogy, they would probably reply with Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. While the opinion is understandable, personally I feel a lot of people write off Echoes as rubbish, which it clearly is not. While it’s not perfect, due to the high-standard Metroid games are set against, it gets an unfair rep. Let’s break down some of the main criticisms of the game."

8 Best Games Set In A Multiverse

One of the biggest TV and movie tropes in the last decade has been the multiverse, the idea of exploring multiple dimensions to uncover alternate versions of existing ideas. From both a business and creative perspective, it makes sense why established franchises are shaking things up in this way.

However, there aren't many video games latching on to this trend, as rendering multiple worlds in real-time is a difficult feat and the medium is relatively young in comparison to its contemporaries, making crossover opportunities more difficult. Still, there are a few great titles that manage enough to overcome these challenges, and here are some of the best examples.

While I love someone mentioning Planescape, not really multiverse. Planes and dimensions, yes. But, they are typically their own locations and are very rarely tied to another 'verse' let alone another plane. The only things that are directly tied are the ethereal and material planes. Otherwise, they are dimensions created of their own design and goals by the creator/owner and not comprised of 'their own version of another dimension'.

I chance mixed feeling about Metroid Prime 2. I think I’ve beaten Prime 2 three times. I like the atmosphere and enemies of Prime 2 more than its predecessor. However, when I replayed the entire prime trilogy as an adult, I found Prime 2 to be the most frustrating and confusing of the 3 Prime games.

Traveling into Dark Ether was a core at times and some of the bosses felt very poorly designed. I personally think Prime 1 and 3 are better than 2 as an adult. Yet, as a teen I liked Prime 2 more than Prime 1.

I definitely think the first Prime was much better and I found Echoes to be not as much fun with the whole dark corruption gameplay gimmick.

Didn't really care for that one. Had a blast with Prime 1 & 3 however.

Ranking the Metroid Games from Worst to Best

From Xfire: "Is Super Metroid still as super as it once was in 1994? If not, which Metroid game is better than the influential title?"

Highrevz1052d ago

I look forward to the day any game beats that Super, Metroid or not.
Hollow Knight come damn near close to knocking Super Metroid from the top of my list, that’s a huge achievement for such a small team.

The problem for me is I’ve been waiting for a 2D Metroid that beats Super but I don’t think I’ll ever see that day. I still play the original 1-2 times a year and a few randomiser plays.

Fully agree with the list and all points it makes for each game. I’m expecting Dread to fit in the middle of that list but I’m happy to be wrong about that.

In my opinion Other M is better than Federation Force
