Assetto Corsa on PS4 & Xbox One has gone gold

Been waiting for this one for awhile... I'm a huge racing game lover, love cars, and love racing games... The thing about this is there are two type of racing games...
1.Fun- Everything that's not a sim
2.Realistic -Simulator

This game in my humble opinion is for people who want to know what it is really like to drive a ferrari around a track or take a turn at 80mph while breaking, what is it really like.... Something that works just like it would in real life, something that gets it so right that when I hop in my car and try to take a 30mph turn at 80mph I get the same exact response from the car in-game... (that holy shit, I'm going way to fast, OMG!) wheels screaming and tire smoke eveywhere...

That is what a real sim should be trying to pull off... And from what I heard from a trusted review site, he said it's even better then Gran Turismo, so I said, "hell yeah, I need that game then"... I want to see this... can it really be that good.

I can't wait to take the Ferrari FXX K around the track at blazing speeds and see how the car feels... if each car is really different and has it real life counter part handling done right, this is going to be Epic... In my humble opinion this is why you buy this game... if the idea of that gets you excited then this will be money well spent. This is all about what it would be like to really drive that car around a real race track in real life - This is as close as it gets... And this is why I'm excited about this game..

Let's see how good it really is.... I pre-ordered months ago and I'll do a full review the day it releases... So if your on the fence wait for that review / and I will give you my hands-on...

you will be amazed, Forza / Gran Turismo really can't be compared with AC.

I'm driving iRacing, Raceroom, Automobilista, rFactor2, GT6, Forza M 6 etc, but none can touch on the handling and pure driving feel of the AC cars.

Just take the BMW Z4 GT3 around the (laser-scanned, every damn bump in the road can be felt) Nordschleife and I assure you that you will take that 7 min lap hundreds time more :)

real car game ? trust me my friend i have play both forza and GT and they come nowhere close to the feeling you get when driving. i have not tried the new GT well it's not out yet but i dont think the will go too far from the arcade side too much forza does come a little closer to me though as i have said i own both so no bias here. but both are still simcades.

Well for those who don't have a PC, I highly recommend buying it if your into sims. This is the best Sim racer I have ever played. It may not be the best looking, but it has they best physics, hands down.

this is good console only players should try it out becuase you won't find anything on the market that has the same life like feel when driving you can spend hours going around the same track becuase the driving feels so real and if you can get a wheel that helps a lot as well.

What are the tracks like ? I have Forza, and i'm such a loser i feel i've got value out of the game by just driving around the tracks myself because i'm too rubbish to compete online. BTW can you still get the 'real car feel' when using a controller ?

Yes, even with the gamepad you will feel the weight of the car and its realistic handling. but DONT use the 3rd/outside camera, it gives a false impression of what the car is doing.Switch to the cockpit view and have a blast.
With a good whell (T300/TX) its another level of fun and realism.

I got a ton of hours clocked in from playing alone on tracks so I wouldn't worry if multiplayer isn't your thing. The fact that each track is different and each car handles differently adds a whole lot of play time.

cfc83--yeah the real car feel is still there when using a controller but it's not as high or as much as using a wheel but you will still enjoy it. and the tracks are the exact copy of the real ones. watch a video on nordschleife and go and play assetto corsa isn't the same track.

I hope this game gets the success it deserves on the consoles. I play a variety of games across PC, XBOX One and PS4 such as iRacing, RaceRoom, PCars, Forza and Gran Turismo and Assetto Corsa has some of the best tyre modelling and physics out there. Kunos has always gone for a more realistic approach and helped push racing sim technology over the years starting with the free to play NetKar and then their first paid title NetKarPro and Assetto Corsa follows that tradition.

Unfortunately as we saw with Project Cars it will likely get marked down by reviewers because like Pcars it won't have the array of cars that Forza or GT will have and that's a shame because that doesn't take into account the level of detail each car is modelled. AC is more detailed in its approach to each car, unlike Forza and GT where cars can feel very samey and generic in the way they handle and particularly in Gran Turismo's case lacks detailed cockpit views. That's not to say I don't like either Forza or GT, I love them and have played each series through from the start but I recognise how much more detailed Assetto Corsa is when it comes to car modelling in terms of handling and visuals. All I'd say is give it a chance, look beyond the content and understand that AC is trying to be a racing simulator and not a racing game/car collector game like Forza or GT, they are different sub genre's in the racing game genre.

As far as the controls go I hope that AC will use the same joypad setup as it currently does on the PC, if it does then it won't suffer the same issues and scorn that befell Pcars that to be fair did have poor joypad control at launch. While I use a Fanatec CSW V2 and Clubsport V3 pedals for use on my PC, XBOX One and PS4 I have turned a few laps on the PC using an XBOX One controller mapped with the XBOX 360 preset in AC. They seem to use some good filtering of the small input range of a joypads thumbstick as you never feel like you are constantly over correcting like you did in Pcars. Driving a lap of Monza provides a good idea of that filtering as you have a nice mix of corners like the long flowing Curva Grande followed by the Variante della Roggia chicane which needs quick snapping left and right that suits a thumbstick followed by more technical corners like Lesmos. In Pcars it was hard to follow a smooth line and give a smooth input yet in AC it seems so much easier. When playing online you can always tell who the joypad players are because you either see the car twitching or you can see the wheels twitch erratically as the player makes corrections. While there is a little of this evident in AC its much much harder to spot.

AC is very much a racing simulator but its also very forgiving for new players coming from say Need For Speed or Forza and GT. You can tailor the game using driving aids or turn them off for more of a challenge. I'd recommend a wheel and pedals but it is very playable on a joypad. I also have faith that the team will support the console versions in the same way they did with the PC version from its Steam Early Access beginnings right through to where we are now with a mix of free content and some excellent paid DLC as well as adding lots of new features.
