So, is this identical to the ps4 release?

stalepie2854d ago

Don't think it's had a PS4 release.

Fullmetalevolust2854d ago

This game has the best magic spells, gorgeous to look at. I will dip again, I never got to finish it.

Exare2854d ago

It was an emotional game and remains one of my favorites to this day. The ending is very bittersweet, do yourself a favor and finish it up because it's worth every minute of playtime. I've beaten it twice now, once when it came out and once last summer and it's every bit as enjoyable as I remember. A timeless classic.

Forum_Pirate2854d ago

What?

The story and all but 2 of the characters are ripped straight from the big book of anime cliche and put in game with 0 alterations. It's poorly paced, poorly written cliche garbage unworthy of any praise, it would be unworthy of any mention at all except it actively detracts from the experience. I don't know if it's nostalgia goggles or just inexperience that's convinced you otherwise but nothing about it's story is even remotely emotional when every major plot point can be predicted from the word go and it's not even executed well or done with interesting characters.

What *is* good is the battle system. Instead of abandoning the ATB system, SE should have just started using/tweaking that one for final fantasy because it is the best battle system in a JRPG to date imo, it totally carries the entire experience.

@Forum_Pirate
I bet you're a blast at parties.

Forum_Pirate2853d ago

@Wrex369
I can be positive and excited. I'd like to play Grandia 3 again, but it's definitely not because of the story.

It's not just me either, IGN, gamespot and Xplay all mention that the story is mediocre at best and more than one review mentions that you don't actually get to use any of the interesting characters except your mom (no pun intended) and the demon sailor guy.

The combat is argualbly the best in the genre to this day, and it's definitely the best interpretation of the ATB system, but the game would actually be better if it was just an escalating series of battles with no story at all, then I wouldn't have to waste time furiously mashing O to skip the whole thing.

blackblades2854d ago

Wth thought it was a ps4 port. I'll pass until then like why ps3.

gangsta_red2854d ago

I still have the original PS2 game

Fullmetalevolust2854d ago

I do too, that's why I don't see a point in buying it for the ps3. Plus it's on two disks, 10 gigs. I do want the ps4 port and that I will purchase

addictedtochaos2854d ago

Great game. Still have the original PS2 versIon. Would have a bought a PS4 release.

Good list, kudos for adding Shadow Hearts, Covenant is probably the best Jrpg most people have not played and what an improvement over the first one (plus ties with Koudelka which is an awesome game as well).

jznrpg485d ago

I own all 3 of those games with 2 copies of Koudelka on PS1 just in case one of the four discs crapped out on me . Same with Legend of Dragoon. That’s one thing I want Sony to get back into , JRPGs , action and turned based

Melankolis485d ago

Yep, they should have at least 1 Japanese studio with 2 teams in it specialize in JRPG.

RavenWolfx485d ago

The amount of time I bring up Covenant when referring to amazing RPGs is astounding.

RedDevils484d ago

Still my favorite JRPG on PS2.

FinalFantasyFanatic484d ago

I wish I had played the other Shadow Hearts games, didn't know there was so many until later in the PS3 generation, at that point they hard to get for a reasonable price. I only got to play Covenant sadly, hopefully they'll all get ported to modern systems at some point.

Take a look at the libraries of your favorite consoles. I guarantee you, other than a handful of fighting games better suited on the Dreamcast, PS2 still has the best, biggest, and most varied library. Literally something for everyone. JRPGs on PS1 and PS2 really were special.

Edit: the article basically just lists every single JRPG on PS2 lol

Terry_B485d ago

Nah..it lists only 33 of them. There are probably over 150 ;)

DrDoomer485d ago

Who's gonna tell them that Persona 4 came out on the PS2?

andy85485d ago

DQVIII would be so good to be added to the new service

O how i miss old school jrpgs. They dont make them much anymore. Sea of stars is looking pretty good. And maybe a few others but not many

CUnit123123716d ago

Yeah they definitely don't make them like they used too. Hopefully Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will reinvigorate that when it releases next year. The old school turn based style

Zeldafan64720d ago (Edited 720d ago )

Hopefully Dragon Quest III remake releases sometime next year. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 releases in 2 months so I'll have my rpg fix this year.

shinoff2183720d ago

I hope that dq3 remake releases on all the systems. Id also like a physical copy to go with it

Zeldafan64720d ago

Only problem is it'll probably be very limited physically.

CUnit123123716d ago

I agree. I still go back and play my ls2 couple times a month for my favorite series and games

Zeldafan64720d ago (Edited 720d ago )

HD remasters of Xenosaga, Xenogears and Vagrant Story would be ideal. Also, can't believe I almost forgot this, HD remaster of Arc Rise Fantasia. That game got a lot of shit for SOME subpar voice acting but it has one of the best turn based battle systems I've ever played. For the record I think most of the voice acting in the game is really good.

CUnit123123716d ago

Yeah that would be great too. I love these style games and definitely wish we got more

CUnit123123716d ago

Definitely great choices as well

ragnalamb1714d ago
