Developers are Excited for the NX — Should You Be Too?

It’s a secret to no one that Nintendo currently has a pretty humble position in the home console industry. While Xbox and PlayStation continue to charge on with a variety of different games from dozens of developers, Nintendo fans are primarily living off of indie games in-between the not so often first-party releases.

It’s been quite some time since Nintendo last had truly decent third-party support. This has led many gamers to believe that the upcoming NX most likely won’t be in too different of a situation. Despite the fact that we know next to nothing about the system, there does seem to be a noticeably bright light on the horizon-many big developers have already stepped forward with positive remarks about it. How excited should you be about that?

I am curious for sure, it would seem the NX will have more under its hood than PS4, I have to wonder about how it will compare to PS4.5, which I can say I doubt I will pick up. Scorpio of coarse will be a beast, but hell you might as well just build a high end PC you can upgrade.

NX, day one with Zelda, and Luigi's Mansion. My dream launch game would be Eternal Darkness.

herbs2868d ago

I think its likely the NX will have a better CPU then either of the competitors and prob a 3-4 teraflop GPU.

Maybay2868d ago

I just hope this time around, NX owners support the quality third party titles.

EcoSos32868d ago

What quality? Do you mean half baked games with no dlc what so ever because that I will not support it.

Segata2868d ago

As long as they are not half assed ports either missing the DLC.

jcnba282867d ago

Nintendo fans DID support GOOD third party games, not rushed ports that were missing content.

I'm buying it for the same reason I buy other Nintendo consoles ... I love Nintendo published games and am willing to buy a system JUST for their games.

I don't expect anything else but would love to see Nintendo have a console with third party support at the level of the competition for the first time since the SNES.

But if not ... it's fine. I have a PS4 and PC personally.

herbs2868d ago

I'm of the same mind set as you. If Nintendo can be profitable with limited support, being a niche secondary console is fine with me. It would be cool to see Nintendo as #1 though to haha.

i would agree with you since i love nintendo games as well, but if they just continue to rehash the same tired ips over and over with little to no gameplay changes i wont be buying them

CaptainObvious8782867d ago

I would like to see them get out of the dam hardware scene, and release their games on PS4 and xbone.

I'd love to play some of their games, but I'm not spending money on a console for a handful of games.

"Most of my friends who are Nintendo fans like me are also multiconsole owners because Nintendo doesn't get the third party games we want which does include Call of Duty. "

*Looks at sales of CoD on Wii and Wii U*
*Looks to you and your friends and raises one eyebrow quizzically*

"Many Sony and Microsoft fans are fans of Nintendo. They just don't want to fork over 300 dollars for an extra system that plays just ONE publisher's games."

...
Funny thought, but have you ever stopped to consider just how often players use the term "AAA third party games" with the same blanket tone they'd use when talking about the games from a single publisher?
Considering how similar in feel many of them are, I can't blame them.XD
At this point I think it's fair to say that they're buying just one system for "AAA third party" the same way they claim Nintendo owners only buy a system for "Nintendo games."

I feel it's also fair to say, taking the former into consideration, that many of those that ONLY own a Sony or Microsoft console and not a Nintendo console, that claim to still love Nintendo games, despite having entirely abandoned the consoles that host them, are exaggerating, or aren't honestly examining their feelings for the games.
It's likely nostalgia remnants, at best.
Those who actually love games from a set publisher, go where those games are.
Real Nintendo fans aren't sitting on the internet port begging, IMO.

They probably know more about what it's capable of than we do now. I'm curious to see what it will be like!

exkalibur972868d ago

dont be fooled bro, same pr articles that preceded the wii u and look how that turned out

Teflon022867d ago

WiiU had articles exactly the same lol. Trust me, it means absolutely nothing

superchiller2868d ago

I read the article, but there are almost no facts to support the author's arguments. It really just seems like optimistic fanboy fantasies rather than a solid essay on the potential of the NX.

The same kinds of positive comments from developers preceded the release of the Wii U, and look how that turned out.

AKR2868d ago

I began the article talking about how developers spoke positively about the Wii U, and what happened shortly afterwards.

The whole basis of this piece was to talk about how, given Nintendo's current situation, big developers are still quite positive about the NX. Even though the system hasn't been released yet and there's almost no momentum behind it, these studios are interested in it.

superchiller2868d ago

Yes, you did mention that at the beginning of your article. But you didn't acknowledge that the NX could follow the exact same pattern, and you gave no reasons why it might succeed vs. the Wii U. There is nothing different from the pre-Wii U hype and the pre-NX hype. Developers are always going to put a positive spin on their comments if they hope to develop games and make profits from a new piece of gaming hardware; it's all really just PR hype, nothing more.

wonderfulmonkeyman2867d ago

Ignore Shiller, dude.
He fails to acknlwledge the fact that Nintendo coming into a new gen off of one of their least popular systems ever, is a very huge motivation factor for Nintendo.
He thinks it could follow the same pattern, but the fact is, it can't, and won't, because each of Nintendo's consoles have something unique to them beyond just raw specs, and because Nintendo literally cannot afford to do so, reputation-wise.

rjason122868d ago

Man, more than half of all your comments are always on Nintendo articles. I'm starting to think you secretly love them or something.

Manor Lords has sold over 2 million copies since launch

Developer Slavic Magic and publisher Hooded Horse announce that their city building sim Manor Lords has sold over two million copies since launch.

1nsomniac7h ago

Still waiting for its first patch which is worrying. I know it’s been a single man developer but there’s really no excuse for no updates being released since launch. I’ve been part of many single developer releases that are updated daily, sometimes hourly. This’s hasn’t had a single one yet….
