Sea of Thieves - The pirate ship simulator you've always wanted

Connor Sheridan

"The fantasy of being a 17th-ish-century pirate is cobbled together with wide-open seas and the freedom to do whatever you wish. The historical reality involves significantly more menial labor and being gibbeted by the authorities. Fortunately, Sea of Thieves isn't much concerned with historical accuracy. Rare's upcoming online piracy (not that kind) simulator is looking to take your Pirates of the Caribbean and Treasure Island daydreams and translate them directly onto Xbox One and PC, presenting players with a vast ocean full of riches to claim and - most importantly - fellow buccaneers to befriend or betray."

This game really looks amazing. Will make such a welcome change from more serious shooters. A proper social pirate game. Sharing weapons, ship battles, everyone having their own roles in the crew, exploration, combat etc.

Cant wait!

If it wasn't so social heavy I'd be interested but it seems they are doing a Ubisoft and focusing on social play where shown off social interactions acted out won't really happen in reality

They need to show it can survive as a single player game....you know what Rare are known and loved for

Except that it is a social game. It may have SP aspects such as exploration, maybe building, but the primary reason it exists is MP.

poppinslops2867d ago

Exactly... if you want an offline pirate game, go play 'Black Flag'.

@Fox - Why?

Buddy either except with their making or move on. You are basically disregarding everything the developer has stated about the game in favor of your own delusional personal wants of something you do not own how on Earth is that their fault that you basically made up a concept that the game wasn't even about and was never at any point ever marketed or advertise to actually be?

If they created sea of Thieves to be an MMO so be it, but they have no to make it some single player game just because it's something their other team members once did before a lot of the people that are currently working at rare did not make a lot of those other games..

The people that created those games that you know and love have been gone from there for well over a decade now sooooo.

I'm accepting of what sea of Thieves is simply because I want to play what they've marketed it to be not what I personally wanted it to be as it seems to be wishful thinking based on nothing revealed . that's like me saying I wish it was a turn-based RPG and that's what they need to do lol

They don't need to show crap, they don't need to do crap. this game is not yours! if this game is an MMO that's what it is.

I'm sorry you didn't get the memo that it's open-world MMO because it seems to me that many gamers love this bizarre fanfiction thinking about games and just making up their own genres in Concepts and narratives with games in which were never even remotely marketed to ever be what their asking for.

When on Earth did you hear sea of Thieves was ever about some single player narrative?

I think this looks like a rare exception (no pun intended) where me and my friends will play it just like the people in the e3 demo

This should be a warm welcome to all other Xbox games heading to PlayStation.

A sign that xbox will become 3rd party in the future since there games sell better on playstation

P_Bomb4d ago

Sea of Thieves is a hit! Sadly Hi Fi Rush looks like it fell off.

VersusDMC3d ago

Love to see Stellar blade selling well. 2nd only to helldivers 2 in the US. Currently going for that platinum.

Where the F is Rebirth?! I wonder if people just don't know it's the sequel to remake. It is too good to be overlooked.

solideagle3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I have been playing Rebirth for few days now but it feels like a mini game galore than an actual Final Fantasy 7 remake sequel. Too many mini games, I still think they could do whole Final Fantasy 7 in 1 or maximum 2 parts rather trilogy. This is my opinion

VersusDMC3d ago

Well i am not one for asking a developer to censor themselves by asking them to cut stuff out of their game...but you do you.

Remake and Rebirth are GOTY to me and you always have the original for you.

Does it though? I don't know of anybody who has it or plays it on xbox, and I have a lot of friends on xbox. Not slating the game, but never found it very exciting.

Elda10d ago

LOL!! I can't believe anyone owning a PS5 paying $40 or more to play Sea Of Thieves.

darthv7210d ago

give it a spin... it may surprise you.

Elda10d ago

No thanks. I know what interests me & Sea Of Thieves let alone any type of pirate game I have zero interest in.

JackBNimble10d ago

Well I own it on ps5 and I'm enjoying it. I was considering buying an xbox because I was interested in this game... now I don't need another console.
Elda, it's a good thing that your opinion and interest are just that ... yours.
