Hands-On with Star Trek: Bridge Crew - Number One, You Have the VR... err, The Bridge | AusGamers

AusGamers has VR experience write-up of Star Trek: Bridge Crew which they describe as "exhilarating" and "brilliant, really".

"Suddenly it becomes a dance of appliance to the captain’s orders and your own ability to manage your functions. There’s no one hero on the bridge of a Federation ship, and despite each person’s inputs being what could be argued as binary, unless they’re being coordinated with your fellow crew members, they’re useless. It’s brilliant, really. Our distress signal lead us to a devastating scene where a space station was littering the field of view in pieces. “Scan for signs of life”, ordered the captain. “This is real,” I thought to myself as news of survivors in escape pods was revealed. “Tactical, drop shields”, came his second order -- we were planning on getting those survivors on board and obviously I complied while also being weary enough to power up torpedos, just in case.

That dance I mentioned, it went very well. A Klingon Bird of Prey appeared and we had to put the rescue on hold. Firing phasers and torpedos scared them away some while shields also needed to immediately go up, allowing enough time for engineering to get more power to the ship’s systems and for us to drop shields again to continue with transporting the survivors. It’s important to note at this point that the ship is constantly moving and maneuvering and orders are being sent to each station on the bridge with players being expected to remain communicative the whole time."

Yes yes I'm down to play this so badly.

anast238d ago

Oh, f$%&! They better not mess this up. Trek is miles better than any other Sci-fi franchise.

JackBNimble238d ago

I agree, at the same time no one can seem to make a decent StarTrek game.

I'm with you ... they better not fk this up

Solitariussaint238d ago

Keep up the good work!

They listened and made a physical version of Star Trek Resurgence, which I've pre-ordered, and I hope they make this new game both offline friendly and physical as well!

Immediate reaction - excited for new story driven Star Trek game.

Then I go and check GameXcite's website and see that the only thing they have released are a few Asterix games.

Set expectation to low

This is very cool. I played many versions of Super Star Trek, some text based and some with rudimentary graphics. Back in the day, you’d get games like this off a floppy disk from a friend. I also played the 25th Anniversary Star Trek game. Cool to see a melding of the two.

This fan remake of a Star Trek text game from 1978 is way better than it has any right to be

Super Star Trek 25th is a remake / conversion of the strategy game Super Star Trek, written by Bob Leedom and David Ahl and published in the book BASIC Computer Games in 1978, mixed with the graphics of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and the voices from ST The Original Series
