Miyamoto teases a special element to NX

Coming from an AP interview with Shigeru Miyamoto...

"In terms of NX, there's an idea that we're working on. That's why we can't share anything at this point, and I don't want to comment on the other companies. If it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker."

Well, anyone care to guess what this element is going to be? What twist is the NX going to have?

Edit: So I looked through the original interview, and apparently that pic doesn't show up there, which indicates it's not the "tease" being talked about.
False alarm, I guess. My original post follows:
----------------------------- ----------------------------

So that's an idea they're working on...
Is said idea that helmet and visor? Or is that picture just something the original article used as an example piece to complement the story?

I mean, they said they weren't going straight into VR, and the statement saying "If it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker" seems to support their earlier statement of not going head-first into VR, so what could those things be?

For that matter, will a form of those even be a part of the final product?
He did say it's just an idea, after all, and many of Nintendo's ideas don't make it into the final product...

I'm thinking maybe an expanded version of Augmented Reality, if anything, but somehow that doesn't seem quite right either, because he's got two things there...this is making me more and more confused.XD

I think we really need an NX info dump sooner rather than later at this point.
Teasing things like this with no background into it just leads to all sorts of speculation, and I'm betting most of the speculation here is gonna be negative.-_-;;

One other thing, though, is that if this IS a turn-around on Nintendo's part and they ARE doing VR, then that means the system will have high-end specs to support it.

The article writer is playing with your head. The original Nintendo Revolution rumor was for a virtual reality console and headset. I knew Nintendo would change up to something different than just power with the Wii. Just didn't expect the rate of sales it got. Even with grandparents and woman.

But that picture is this created by someone that was doing a project
https://m.youtube.com/watch...
Back then, it was definitely a well crafted video of something that didn't exist. But at the time I was hoping for it to be true.

As for them doing VR. It's a hard guess. Nintendo usually thinks of kids first when releasing a product. But then, you have to consider the 3DS and it's effect on young eyes up close and they released it anyway even with the slider. So who knows.

My guess is : since Nintendo makes mad money when it comes to portables, they would make a powerful portable system that you can take on the go but plug to an HD television. And they could sell a mobile VR attachment similar to Samsung gear VR with Bluetooth controller. With their exclusives, the Japanese would eat it up.

But who knows. I'll just wait for them to announce it. It's not about power anyway or following Sony or Microsoft like some gamers want them to do. It's about making something fun with good quality.

Big thanks for the source of that pic. It put a lot of things into perspective.

As for their portables, well...How likely do you think it is that they'd make a portable that's powerful enough to function as a console?
Because, I mean, that's what it would take to host Breath of the Wild, if the NX were a hand-held...

@wondefulmonkeyman
Assuming NX is handheld; a year old NVIDIA Tegra X1 chip can push out about a teraflop which is more than twice what a WiiU can do, so it is possible to make portable of at least similar power. This would also coincide with their claims that the WiiU and NX experience of Zelda will be the same.

Going further, If Nintendo is capable of leveraging AMD's technology, like what's gone into the Polaris chips, then it's possibly similar to an XBone. Whatever NX is or isn't and what it can and can't do, we'll find out when Nintendo is ready to tell us.

@Wonder- "As for their portables, well...How likely do you think it is that they'd make a portable that's powerful enough to function as a console?"

? Console? Console is not a set thing, it is merely playing a device on your TV. PSTV is basically a vita that you could play on your TV...would you not call this a "console"?

Remember the Gameboy players? Would you not see those as "console"?

How about PSP 3000 having the function of playing off of a tv?

I think you are reading the term "console" way, way....WAY too deeply and need to merely see it as a handheld that can play off of a TV.

Handhelds will get more powerful, phones for a FACT will be more powerful then a PS4 or XONE, the phones that are out, are they not already more powerful then a PS3 or 360?

Sooooooo why question if a handheld can be more powerful then a console, when the term console merely means to play off of a tv or dedicated to tv etc? Who says even that they handheld even needs to be more powerful then what is out to day to even run off of a TV?

Again...PSP 3000.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

My guess stands as it did MONTHS ago. NX is a handheld that outs to a TV, Nintendo is quietly leaving the dedicated console market and focusing on handheld, the X in NX merely means cross over as NX is a hybrid of both console and handheld.

Its not using disk as its a handheld...

Their statements about it replacing 3DS and Wii U are based on it being 1 device that does both.

Their statements about it getting the MOST support out of any device they've ever released, is because its BOTH!

It can be done and HAS been done. So I don't get this concept of "powerful enough" as outing to a TV doesn't really need some power requirement. NX will likely be a handheld that outs to a TV, then a huge powerful PS4 like device on the go lol. Consider by default it will have to be more of a handheld, then of a console. Console is merely you can play it on the tv.......

You don't need an extremely powerful device to run off a tv, but you need to have a portable size to fit in your pocket and a certain design to be a handheld. Again...PSP 3000.

smh, when you fail video game history.

The picture was from something from 10 years ago. The gun....you've jumped it, like big time.

I'm expecting NX to be the first bridge into the mobile industry. Nobody else has done it before, every gamer has a phone, and nobody is holding a GBA in their pocket anymore, because the phone is the must have carry in 2016.

A new handheld that's significantly more powerful than the 3ds on the go for ALL of it's games, "console/handheld", that you can use as a phone. Then take it home and plug it in the stand and have it be used as a console all on 1 modernized, intertwined platform. Zelda: Breath of the Wild in your hands, Monster Hunter 5 on the couch.

It's risky as fk imo, it could backlash so hard on Nintendo nobody might even consider buying their next console. OR it will revolutionize their platform and take gaming to an entirely new level never seen before, one that nobody else has the ability to touch, because they'll be so rooted already.

People are just afraid of this kind of idea because the moment they think mobile they think Angry Birds and rightfully puke in their mouths. When they should be thinking GameBoy on the go, phone your friends, get home, plug in and play.

At least that's what I see, there's got to be a reason their focusing on talking about mobile so often, right?... Testing the waters maybe?...
