Should We be Worried About the Nintendo NX? Probably Not

— Nintendo Enthusiast:

The gaming industry has cast Nintendo in a deep shadow of doubt for what feels like eons now, so the outcry of negative reactions towards Reggie Fils-Aime’s recent comments don’t exactly come as a surprise.

“For us it’s about the content, not the specs”—that’s what Mr. Fils-Aime had to say when asked about how the Nintendo NX will compare to the recently-confirmed Xbox ‘Project Scorpio and PlayStation ‘4K/Neo’. Many have interpreted Reggie’s statement as him basically admitting that the NX will not be a very powerful system. The question is—is that really the case?

As the console is not so powerful, I believe that Nintendo will not make mistakes twice.

_-EDMIX-_2871d ago

Lol you forgot the /s

Didn't we think that about the Wii U with its proprietary Hardware and difficult proprietary architecture?

Zeldafan642871d ago

PowerPC is the way to go. Why do you think they use it in supercomputers? Because it's superior.

payikick2870d ago

@Zeldafan64

Wow really? How old are you? you really dont know how computer hardware works....

Zeldafan642871d ago

They're going to make sure there are a good number of first party games within the consoles first year. I do believe they will get a decent amount of big Japanese third party games as well so I'm not worried about it.

ShadowKnight2871d ago (Edited 2871d ago )

I totally agree!

Imalwaysright2871d ago

I really would like to see them partnering with Platinum Games for another Bayonetta or a new IP.

_-EDMIX-_2871d ago

We would first have to see how the hardware and the architecture stands up before even making such assumptions.

I'll hold my judgment until Nintendo confirms their architecture and Hardware.

marquisray2871d ago

Come on i like nintendo since the 64 days but we talk so much about Microsoft and therw halo and gears and forza a little about god of war uncharted and gt what about always zelda metroid and fire fox they always make em but microsoft gets bashed the most wow

Zeldafan642871d ago (Edited 2871d ago )

I'm assuming english is not your first language. I don't know what sites you visit on a regular basis but I don't know how much sony and microsoft's main ip's get talked about on other sites or how much they do or don't get bashed because I don't really visit their sites. What I do know is that of the three Nintendo franchises you mentioned the last time a mainline game came out for any of them was almost 5 years ago. By the time the new Zelda comes out it will have been more than 5 years. I fail to see how having a mainline game come out in a franchise once every five years or more is always "make em", milking them is what I think you meant to say. We don't know when or if we'll ever get another mainline Metroid game (I think we will, possibly next year) and this was the first mainline Star Fox game we've gotten in over a decade though it was basically a remake of the original Star Fox or reimagining would be a better way to put it.

RosweeSon2871d ago (Edited 2871d ago )

They get bashed most because they are the least original and most uninspiring of the big 3
They get talked about a lot (the games you mention) because gears 4 is the biggest thing they have on their exclusive horizon halo is halo and had all those problems on launch forza is talked about a lot because people are still getting through last years edition before there's another one due. Yearly churns and all that.

BattleAxe2871d ago (Edited 2871d ago )

@ Zeldafan64

"I do believe they will get a decent amount of big Japanese third party games as well so I'm not worried about it."

What exactly has Nintendo done to give you this kind of confidence? There are zero rumors out there today to confirm anything, and judging by Reggy's comments at E3, they're pitching the same lines that they did when the WiiU was launched.

Zeldafan642871d ago (Edited 2871d ago )

You do know that Nintendo has really good Japanese third party support on the 3ds, right? Square Enix and Capcom do very well for themselves on the 3ds in Japan. You don't think over the last few years Nintendo has been talking to them about possibly getting back more of their mainline console games on the NX? I think they have and that slip that one guy made last year at the Dragon Quest XI reveal is more than enough evidence of that. Dragon Quest XI is already going to be on the 3ds, why not have it on the NX as well? Dragon Quest really is truly at home on a Nintendo console anyway, Nintendo's the reason Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy exist in the first place.

BattleAxe2871d ago (Edited 2870d ago )

^^^

Wishful thinking....I think that they'll see similar sales to that of the WiiU. Nintendo is completely out to lunch these days unfortunately.

@Battle- completely agree unless I hear something about its architecture or Hardware I'm going to continue to worry about their stance in the market.

I don't completely agree about them being out of touch, yes there's been a point in time where this company was literally making games inside of a bubble and ignoring all modern gameplay Concepts and basically just making mistake after mistake but if the new Zelda could show us anything is that they're listening now. maybe it's because of times changing , maybe it's because of the death of Iwata , maybe it's because they're losing in sales but regardless of why they're doing it they are paying attention to those Concepts from other games now and it's about time.

What if this continues with their other franchises? What if Animal Crossing actually gets proper online play? Voice chat? What if they make Animal Crossing into an MMO? If they're treating the whole company this way in terms of having this new Awakening and actually progressing series as opposed to using dated Concepts just because maybe this will show that they are indeed no longer catering to this strange nostalgic audience.

Zeldafan and wonderfulmonkey can tell you not that enthusiastic about this company's Direction but I can definitely say that they're trying to change if you see what they're doing with Zelda so I can't honestly say that any longer.

Now when it comes to the hardware and their architecture that remains to be seen unless they announce anything that's still in the air with their going to do as I 100% believe their consoles success or failure might literally lie on its architecture.

Zeldafan642870d ago

Why are you so negative? Yours and others constant negativity is doing nothing to help anyone.

So long as it can handle 3rd party titles, gets 3rd party titles and has worthy 1st party, it shouldn't have anything to worry about.

_-EDMIX-_2871d ago

Agreed. I think they could launch a successful platform if they simply just have the architecture and hardware setup properly , third parties more than anything clearly want a platform capable of making money from.

Nintendo Is A Bad Company, But We Can't Help Loving Them Anyway

TG: “Most of us also grew up with Nintendo, likely forming a nostalgic connection with games that have long been crowned as our personal favourites. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was an experience that shaped my view on open world fantasy, and Super Mario 64 changed my life like it did for millions of others. These titles have earned their place in history, and remain loved to this day for so many worthwhile reasons. We replay them and beg for remasters all while delving into their worlds time and time again because they mean that much to us. It’s a shame then that the company behind them often kicks its own sweet darlings to the curb.”

I never got the love for Nintendo games personally. The annoying vocalizations and ugly character designs do nothing for me.

Another very weird article.

Nintendo is a great company by almost all possible normal measures. The biggest one being: their own staff is happy, and they seem to be very happy, well compensated and retain rate is solid. They are also financially very stable, profitable, and cash rich, so shareholders love them.

Overall it is an extremely creative group of people, and their mission statement is fantastic as well "to put smiles on the faces of everyone we touch. We do so by creating new surprises for people across the world to enjoy together." The social impact is also massive, not to speak culturally. Additionally, they have a really strong core business, high customer retention rate and loyalty. Nintendo's reputation is extremely good, I think in the US alone they are 9th most reputable company, their customer service is better than the average company. Plus, the press gives them a pass, because they are Nintendo. But there's a reason why they do that, it's not "because they are Nintendo", there are more layers to the argument.

Then, then there's the random negative gamers online...and their "reputation" which is inside their heads. And their western ideas of how a Japanese company should behave or what they should do. But they have no right to ask a company to do anything for them, because they can vote with their wallets.

There's a small vocal community online who dislikes Nintendo for what they are, but then again, there's always a small vocal community that dislikes something.

Nintendo also disagrees with the Western world about IP, but most people call Westerners "hidoi!" when they emulate Tears of the Kingdom and do not experience it the way Nintendo wanted them (even if it is not the best visual way), because it is a matter of principle to them (Japanese are very much against anything close to plagiarism, and there are laws that are tight about creative works copying etc.)

The Western Braveheart "freedoom!" shouters need to understand that it is not an American company, nor they need to behave like one. They can have their own fights based on their principles (against emulation). And they very well may lose the battle with that and change, or find a new audience.

In the end, it is so very simple. Don't buy the products if you don't like a company, but there's no need to paint a picture that is unrealistic about Nintendo either.

MadLad334d ago

I hate virtually everything about their business practices, actually. Suing everybody for virtually anything, shooting down fan projects, games they never let devalue, their online infrastructure and how they handle BC.

They're lucky they make great games, because that's the only thing I feel they do right.

gold_drake334d ago

my issue with them, is the complete refusal to have decent tech for us.

and their odd censorship and lawsuits for modders.
