Phil Spencer confirmed that Microsoft is not focused on making a first party VR device. On the other hand, they want to bring many HW manufacturers over for Scorpio.

I heard about Rift support, but multiple headsets would be awesome

Alexious2886d ago

Indeed. I know a few folks who greatly prefer HTC Vive over the Oculus Rift.

TheCommentator2886d ago

Either way, having one headset for both your PC and your console is way better than having a proprietary option restricted to one device.

Herbalistic2886d ago (Edited 2886d ago )

I think Microsoft is going to allow Rift and Vive being as both have Windows 10 support

Eonjay2886d ago

Spoilers...
Scorpio is a PC.

Kleptic2886d ago

^sort of...Scorpio is a 'windows 10' PC, and we don't yet know what MS will try to do with that...

full on PC? Or a forked version of windows 10 that locks out other distribution services like Steam, Origin, etc?...It could be a full win 10 device, as they've done very well in the tablet/laptop market with the Surface series...which are, unlike the rest of PC, not handled by OEMs but MS entirely...but they approach everything xbox will a much tighter fist...

I'm saying this because Xbox one games coming to 'PC' are not coming in the traditional sense...They're tied to windows 10's xbox app/store, and not available through other services...

MS is partnered with OR, so that makes sense...but Vive would be odd, as it is unlikely that scorpio will be able to connect to Steam, and Vive is powered by Steam VR as far as I know...OR has its own dist. channels, which are confusing and annoying as well...So I guess it's still too early to know for sure what is happening...but my guess is that Scorpio is not a traditional PC in the sense of openness...it'll be more like a 'steam machine' but for win 10/dx12/Xbox one based gaming...

"Either way, having one headset for both your PC and your console is way better than having a proprietary option restricted to one device."

exactly. although i am not sure if oculus will be supportive of allowing scorpio use both oculus and htc. i hope they do. vr should be a collaborative effort to become mainstream, not exclusive games and then needing exclusive headsets.

Very good news, always like having options!

MachuchalBrotha3162886d ago

I have a Gear VR, would be nice if I could use it with Xbox One or the Scorpio.

BossBattle2886d ago

@Eonjay the original Xbox One is a pc also, if that's the case

"Many" seems a bit off, only two I can imagine are the Oculus and Vive, are there any other throwing their hats into the VR headset market?

Christopher2886d ago

I think Razer is planning their own hardware, but not platform. Maybe he means 3rd party hardware support as well?

Alexious2886d ago

Actually they are preparing a headset and they've just upgraded it: http://www.osvr.org/blog/?p...

YinYangGaming2886d ago

Oh okay I hadn't realized that, I need to do more research on the whole VR market considering it seems set to become a big part of the market. Thanks for the info @Alexious and @Christopher

Playable_Gamez2886d ago

There are plenty of VR headsets coming out. It's just Vive, Oculus and PSVR are leading in marketing right now.

livininsin2886d ago

@YinYangGaming
There are actually a ton of VR headsets in development aside from the Oculus and Vive headsets and some of them make those headsets look like low spec prototypes. The StarVR headset has dual 2560 x 1440 displays and a 210 degree field of view, the Claire headset has dual 5120 x 1440 displays and a 170 degree field of view and the Fove headset features eye tracking...

These are the headsets I am aware of, I'm sure there are others... Intel is rumoured to be working on one for example.
AMD Sulon Q
Razer OSVR
Starbreeze StarVR
Emax X1
Fove
ImmersiON-VRelia BlueSky Pro
Visus VR
VR Union Claire
Vrvana Totem

great move from MS, gamers love having more options!

343_Guilty_Spark2886d ago

10 gamers disliked this comment because they hate options

Ogygian2886d ago (Edited 2886d ago )

11 gamers think that corridor shooters are the greatest thing ever

2886d ago
jessionpc2886d ago

10 gamers disliked because they have a memory capability that goes back further than last weekend.

M$ are the kings of raping the landscape for gamers. They tried to ruin pc gaming with GFWL, "like 6 times", They are the gods of DRM, DLC, Pay to use your internet twice just to play with your friends... And lets not forget that choice, to play the 360...

They are NEVER to be trusted, and if you do? Don't come crying to anyone after they ruin something great for you down the road. Their slogan with the Xbox 3 was, "We ARE the only option. Get on, or stop being a gamer."... Or SOMETHING like that...

jessionpc2886d ago

@boomtube1987

You know, i'm not a huge fan of Sony myself, or consoles for that matter...

But there ARE no specs for Neo. They withheld information so they could watch M$ desperately tell the world what they are doing. They were likely on the phone with AMD 5 minutes aft- no. They WERE on the phone with AMD during M$ conference. The Neo was likely set in stone before Phil left the stage, and just didn't have time to practice a new set of lines/script etc for the show.

BTW. Two things could happen. Either Neo meets xbox's specs and does 4k gaming. Or the NEO drops the specs, skips 4k gaming, "Like any half wit intelligent company SHOULD because only like 5% of gamers might even HAVE a 4k tv right now!", and just focus on making their games 1080p 60fps and increase the graphical fidelity.

...Then dropping a REAL 4k console early/mid 2020's, "because I KNOW these pos refreshes are going to extend the life of these consoles into the early/mid 2020's, and we will all be forced the loving joy of being bottlenecked on 8gb of ram for another half a decade, YAY!!!

The TV industry says it themselves, there is a + or minus few% on the adoption rate of 4k tvs. And it's insanely low right now, and mostly used by bronies and grandparents who had no clue.

Unspoken2886d ago

It'll be ok Jessie. It's time to the tin foil hat away. You can have a Scorpio too. No one will be left behind.

If you want to stay with old and slower tech with Sony, it'll be ok. It's about the games right? Not about the resolution or framerate?

_-EDMIX-_2886d ago

An extremely smart move. They haven't been the best in hardware and it makes sense to partner with another company or allow for their device to work on you're device.

I think it sucks its just for XONE Scorpio and not XONE Vanilla. I'm sure they could have worked out some mini GPU or CPU booster or something to allow those devices to work on XONE Vanilla.

He said the best place for VR innovation is the PC!!!!!

Herbalistic2886d ago (Edited 2886d ago )

Its true being as developers from the community could create awesome content and release it for public enjoyment

ShadowKnight2886d ago (Edited 2886d ago )

Ordered my oculus rift a few weeks ago but my gpu is old. Still waiting for MSI to shipped my GTX 1080 which is still unavailable on their website but I did pre-order it. Hopefully I get the best experience when it arrives. I Have an awesome rig!!

ninsigma2886d ago

Still waiting on my gaming x 1080 as well dude. Got an email from amazon after I was enquiring about it and they said it's due to be released this Friday.

ShadowKnight2886d ago (Edited 2886d ago )

Can't wait bro! I didn't get a email yet.

@Ipunch My Penis works just fine and my girl is a hardcore gamer to. Didn't know you were interested in my penis? Not gay bro. Hey, I'm sure you will find a guy on here though. It must be difficult for you

Ipunchbabiesforfun2886d ago

RIP shadow knights penis, RIP...

ninsigma2886d ago

Well I only got an email beacus I was asking about it on their customer services chat system and she said she can enquire further and get back to me. I'd be non the wiser otherwise xD
Dude I can't wait either. Just installed the corsair H90 water block last night because the NH D14 was blocking the gpu release switch. I was using a screwdriver to hit the switch and I was terrified I'd cut into the MB xD
But yeah, installing cpu coolers is the one thing I absolutely HATE about building a PC. I swear I had a break down before it actually screwed in xD

Aurenar2886d ago

I think VR will be superior on Xbox One Scorpio since it will be more powerful than PS4 Neo. Microsoft was right to wait the right time

Alexious2886d ago

True PSVR will happen with Neo, though. PS4 just isn't enough powerful to deliver high-end VR.

Fallout 76 Players Have Nuked Phil Spencer in Response to Studio Closures

Fallout 76 players have dropped the big one on Phil Spencer in response to Xbox's closures of Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks this week.

Meet The Guy Who Just Nuked Xbox Boss Phil Spencer In Fallout 76

He said he treated the Xbox executive like the RPG's final boss

Jingsing1h ago

Somewhat fitting, Considering buying Bethesda was a complete selfish purchasing decision by himself just because he is a big Fallout fan he wanted to own the toy. Well quite frankly Microsoft should look at that and say you put your personal tastes in front of the business and it has backfired.

Sarah Bond dodges questions on Xbox studio closures

While on stage with Dina Bass at The Bloomberg Technology Summit the President of Xbox, Sarah Bond, was asked about the Xbox studio closures of Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios

15h ago
ApocalypseShadow12h ago

Of course she did. She's part of the problem and will just tow the company line.

VenomUK10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Bloomberg’s Dina Bass could barely read her scripted question without looking at her notes, whilst Sarah Bond who WAS expecting the question spoke without saying anything of substance or answering the question in any meaningful way. Clearly she’s had the same expert PR training as Phil, but this avoidance was disrespectful. In time the short-sighted decision to shut down Tango Gameworks will be seen as of the most notorious examples why Phil Spencer messed up his tenure in charge of Xbox. That’s a fully built out talented team that could’ve been put to work on any project.

Additionally, Phil Spencer should not be using Sarah Bond as a patsy for his mistakes- he should be answering that question.

gleepot8h ago

I think you are all really overselling Tangos value. Hi-Fi rush was a lot of fun. Ghostwire was incredibly dull. Evil within 1 and 2 were just okay.

lucasnooker7h ago

Evil within 2 was incredibly under rated. I thought that game was surprisingly good

NotoriousWhiz4h ago

Someone else said it best. I don't think it was a Phil decision. It was most likely a Satya decision. I think Microsoft is done giving out free money to Xbox.

Cacabunga2h ago

Christopher10h ago

She's playing her role. There's absolutely nothing any of them can say other than the truth, this is about profit margins and not quality, so they just don't answer anything and wait for gamers to forget.

zaanan1h ago

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Hofstaderman11h ago

Like a deer caught in the headlights.....

notachance10h ago

I always wondered why xbox had multiple leaders with similar titles like Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, and Sarah Bond, like, how many heads do you actually need?

Seems to me it would be more cost efficient to cut 2 of them instead of all those studios.

DarXyde9h ago

Frankly, I suspect she is the most competent of them. I don't mean that I like her more, I mean that she's the best at articulating herself and giving the talking points MS wants to give. The others are starting to sound more like her than her sounding like any of them.

Are any of these people "responsible" for what's happening? No. This reeks of Nadella. But that being said, I don't see any of the Xbox heads stepping down in protest.

"Don't shoot the messenger", sure, but at the same time, the messengers don't seem to take umbrage with the message. Not enough to remove themselves from it, anyway.

RpgSama2h ago

Dude, 100%, forgot Major Nelson and Aaron Greenberg, like what is the point for all these suits? They have more C-level executives than games released in a generation.

This is just so they can all pass along the hot potato one at a time and in between all of them can say a lot without actually saying anything, misinformation at its finest.
