No matter what they say, people play video games for the story and connections. Sure, graphics and gameplay are important, but it’s the characters and their stories that draw people back in again. Why else would we sink hundreds of hours into pixels? We follow these characters through thick and thin without a second of hesitation. Because we’re enraptured by their stories. These characters and stories put us through intense emotional roller coasters, often times ending in a devastating crash. Here are the top ten moments in video games that had us sobbing grossly and clutching our controllers.

Omg, I am actually playing through Lost Odyssey right now. Just passed this part and I had to put it down for now (plus exams coming up soon lol), but this was truly a sad moment. What I also love are the short story segments that you collect throughout the game. Those are truly sad as well, and I love the writing in them.

Well, I found Ico's ending more emotional than SotC's

I guess it depends how well you bond with the characters from each of those games. My experience with SotC wasnt that great due to constant (but very small) annoyances with the AI, while Ico did very good job establishing your responsibility and relationship to the character, and how that played in the ending.

SotC didnt do the same for me because even though it was basicly going for similar setup, they divided the feeling and focus between 2 characters.

I mean the ending was still great, but I just vastly prefer Ico's ending.

red dead redemption ending. the whole game of being good doesn't equal to anything. i understand the end but still give the player a chance to survive, make it impossible but atleast make it feel like players had a shot

the 2nd time i played RDR i just quit the game after john gets home and see his wife than dopes a couple of missions with his son. that was ending for me perfectly

the last of us ending

mass effect 3 knowing the end was here and no matter the choices shepard will be no more

metal gear solid 3 killing the boss absolutely hated it

Jacks good ending from bioshock and doms sacrifice to the song mad world in gow 3 always gets me choked up

Persona 3 hit me hard and MGS3. It took me a while to understand that I had to "pull that trigger" and I really didn't want to do it.

Hella many moments in Life is Strange... <(T_T)>, it hit the hardest to me in 20 years of gaming. Also MGS3 ending, MGS4 ending, Mass Effects and then there's FFVII. Those are some for me ;).
