Great now if they could just start releasing yakuza on physical disc again thatd be cool.

Ashlen2895d ago (Edited 2895d ago )

Can't wait for Yakuza 0. Love that series, Yakuza 5 was my GoTY 2015. I hope they officially state Yakuza 6 will come to the west sooner rather than later. I'd also like if they were to bring the other spin-offs west as well.

_-EDMIX-_2895d ago

Might be considered based on Yakuza Zero's sales in the west when it comes out.

I'm not sure if we'll see Yakuza Kenzan ever come here, maybe if they do some mega collection, but Sony would have to have a hand in it as I don't see Sega going all out to get some of them to the west.

Someone bug Adam Boyes lol He is easily one of the best VP of relations I've seen in some time.

RosweeSon2895d ago

Shenmue 1/2 Sega come on it's not hard.

_-EDMIX-_2895d ago

I think that is very, very likely to happen.

RosweeSon2895d ago (Edited 2895d ago )

I don't know the closer I'm getting I'm just thinking surely someone would have leaked a mega nugget like that sure it's not the biggest of big news for a lot of people but I would truly love it and sure I'm not alone, played the first never got round to the 2nd I'd rather play a more recent version than purchase a second hand dreamcast but if needs must ;)
I hope so tho so I'll give you an agree.

TheColbertinator2895d ago

Sega is firing on all cylinders this E3. Been years since that happened.

Shenmue remastered and Valkyrie Azure is all thats needed for Sega to restore attention

_-EDMIX-_2895d ago

ironically I don't think those are Sega's biggest deals. Their deal with MS for Halo Wars 2 is bigger, Dawn Of War 3, Persona 5 etc.

Shenume Remastered will net them a strong return, but nothing that will turn the company around over night, I'm not sure Valkryie Azure will either, I'm a fan of the series, but it doesn't have a history of having high enough sales to really lean on it to change something in Sega or anything like that.

I think they will get the bulk of attention from their RTS title Dawn Of War 3 and Halo Wars 2 which is being done by one of their teams.

The otaku kidz will see Shenmue remastered and VA as big deals doe! lol

TheColbertinator2895d ago

Don't know about otaku kids or nothing but I just know good games. Shenmue and Vakyria are among my favorites because they are quality games. Poor quality games can sell really well like Sonic for example.

RosweeSon2895d ago

I agree Shenmues clearly not a big money spinner for them but man Make me a Ryo and Forklift truck combo 1/2 collectors edition for ps4 and I'd happily smack down £100+ bang all three in and short of shitting my pants I'll happily pay £150 for the 3 of them just want 1/2 out tho really gotta play 2 first I'm not playing 3 until I have I've waited this long ;) sort of why I didn't play 2 knowing it was a trilogy and thinking well it's never gonna end until they do decide to make 3rd one just left it at number 1 but really enjoyed it happily go through it again.

_-EDMIX-_2895d ago

Sega doesn't own Monolith, and that team is rumored to be making Shadow Of Mordor 2.

I don't think Sega will ever waste time on such an IP without the actually team being there. Maybe they would get Creative Assembly on it, but that team is doing a few games currently.

opinionated2895d ago (Edited 2895d ago )

I thought sega owned the IP, my mistake. They just published the first. Monolith doesn't own it either though, the ex CEO of monolith does and he's trying to outsource it to an indie dev. There is a chance baby! Maybe we will see something soon.

read the report, where exactly does it say what u just said ? lol

Hopefully the next Nintendo system isn't a potato and it can contribute to FF sales in future as well, in addition to PC releases. If this ensures the long term health for SE and franchises than like FF and KH then I'm all for it.

There won't be no more acquiring game publishers from Microsoft in the future . Xbox has to pay Microsoft back. It might take two decades to do that.

sagapo1d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

I don’t understand what you’re saying. Xbox IS microsoft so there’s no “paying back “.
And MS gross profit in 2023 was over 140 billion dollars so forget your 2 decades.

Unless you mean the money MS invested in Xbox (acquisitions included) and the time it will take for xbox as a brand to gain that money back on it’s own, then yeah, that could take a while.

romulus231d 2h ago

The better term to use might be return on investment, xbox is simply a division of Microsoft one that MS can easily do away with if profit margins are not met. So in that regard he's right, if xbox isn't showing the expected return on investment the higher ups are expecting than it's unlikely Microsoft will acquire any other studios any time soon, especially if they are spending billions buying developers just to shut them down in the end.

MrBaskerville18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Xbox is a division that they discussed shutting down but doubled down on after Gamepass was pitched.

It needs to make money at some point. Big money.

rokos16h ago

According to Statista the net income of Microsoft is about $72.4 billion dollars which is a bit lower than last year profit. That is almost as much as Activision's acquisition but I assume that would be a one off since it costs so much plus I see how their focus has been shifted to AI, thus any major future investments will probably be in that area.

Markusb3315h ago

i think you are really missing the point

VariantAEC6h ago

@romulus23
That is not why MS buys studios. They might continue to buy because it's about taking that sweet sweet IP out of the corporate husks of their acquisitions.

Xbox isn’t a separate company from Microsoft. It’s all Microsoft.

Abear2114h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Let’s be real, this is the media spinning all the acquisitions and liquidations of said developers and spinning it to make M$ the villain.

This was bound to happen, a bigger slice of pie and cut costs, when the games come they stand to make more and that’s their agenda—it was the writing on the wall when the sales went through and legally all those who approved the sale and mergers knew this would happen.

Snowflakes need to realize business is ugly and you can cry all you want but this is how capitalism works. And it works.

That said, M$ needs to steer the narrative and grab hold of all this, make their plans known, hype the hell out of all those dead IP’s they plan to revive, and be honest about the timeline. This is likely to involve mobile and IP on other consoles, and most people realize that.

The problem is this company is incapable of being transparent and seems to often want to dissuade and confuse is customer base. The lack of E3 has hurt Microsoft and I don’t think they know how to properly or effectively market their brand anymore.

There really needs to be a class action lawsuit here. You buy these companies just to put people out of jobs. And it’s not like something happened to derail their plans this WAS the plan. Microsoft has no business in this space at all.

franwex1d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

Microsoft has been doing this for years. They simply want the IPs. Look at Nokia. Look at Skype. This time it simply expanded to games. Gaming is not as important to Microsoft’s executives as it was to the founders too. Bill Gates was willing to sell the og Xbox at a loss. Steve Balmer approved the red ring of death fiasco. This CEO isn’t really a gamer.

-Foxtrot1d 10h ago

Maybe it's time though to put a stop to it and use a big giant like Microsoft as a huge example to the rest of these big companies.

There has to be a line drawn somewhere.

People like the FTC and the like went against Microsoft yet their Actvision deal was still allowed to go through yet look what's happened...it's not even Acitivisions studios aswell, it's Bethesdas.

VariantAEC6h ago

Years?

Try several decades, and in the gaming space 2.3 decades.

Jon6158615h ago

You do realize this happens in ALL industries? Or are you just saying this because it is Microsoft? In any case I feel for those that are being let go but the trch industry is suffering right now.

jwillj2k410h ago(Edited 10h ago)

This absolutely does NOT happen all the time. Let me know the last time 1 company with a terrible product track record spent 100 billion onto acquire MULTIPLE successful companies in under a year only to shut them down and stop making their products regardless of how successful they were. Not merge them, completely shut them down.

And you can’t use Microsoft in your example.

Notellin10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Class action lawsuit? The law is on their side and protects them at all costs. There are no rules to protect the people at the bottom.

jwillj2k410h ago

Not true when it comes to mass layoff do your research.

RNTody1d 10h ago

Ninja Theory, Perfect Dark, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Wolfenstein 3, Dishonored, Prey, Doom, Quake... something tells me that bad things are going to happen to these entities under Microsoft.

MrDead1d ago

ID software, the makers of Doom and Wolfenstein that have been with us since 1991 could be gone and MS will keep the IPs.

I hope some of these studios can buy their freedom from MS otherwise this is going to be even more devastating for the industry and gamers.

Yui_Suzumiya21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

That's exactly what I'm worried about. I've been a fan of id since Wolfenstein 3D and I'm honestly afraid.

lodossrage17h ago

Toys for Bob saw the writing on the wall and bought themselves out.

Wouldn't be the first time a company did that under MS either. Bungie and Twisted Pixel did the same. Considering what just happened, I can see some other devs trying to buy themselves out too.

anast1d 10h ago

Good thing the bosses of all those small studios made their money.

glenn19791d 9h ago

they cant do it right now they will get burned

XiNatsuDragnel1d 1h ago

Phil and his team need to be gone

lodossrage17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

Won't make a difference.

The whole structure needs to be overhauled. Anyone that replaces Phil will be no different than him, Mattrick, or anyone else.

Until the company changes how they go about business, nothing will change

glenn197914h ago

I just don't have any idea what they would do , they have done sooo much damage on their xbox brand, they have a show at July or June I think, but will it even matter even they show amazing games, idkn

lodossrage17h ago

True,

But they may as well get it over with. Whether it happens now or later, the burning is going to hit the same.

Reality is the ONE move that can alleviate a lot of this is the one move they can't make. Remove day 1 from gamepass.

Xbox No Longer Has Its Head In The Game

Microsoft & Xbox have shut down Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks to lay off more workers, insinuating that they're not in the game anymore.

XiNatsuDragnel1d 19h ago

They're headless for a long time because closing tango isn't exactly a good move

PapaBop21h ago

Ever since that cringe Kinect reveal they've never been the same. They used to make some amazing games and do great deals with third parties Early on in the 360 era they had games like Chromehounds and Shadowrun, both well ahead of their time. Now instead of nurturing their studios, they'd rather gaslight gamers and throw billions on pre existing studios. Not sure how Spencer is still in a job, I wouldn't trust him to organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Father__Merrin21h ago

We've said all along Spencer needs to go. I wish xbox went back to xbox only with new gears fable forza halo releases lots of third party releases

Those early rainbow 6 Vegas days and phantasy star universe are gone forever

S2Killinit18h ago

MS has its head in the game but the game they are playing is something different from what console gamers expect from a platform. MS’s end game has always been to use the xbox as a trojan horse.

XiNatsuDragnel16h ago

Lol that's funny well this plan they have isn't working homie

Tacoboto1d 14h ago

Especially for Microsoft, when Booty pretty much said they didn't know how to handle that many studios.

Why even make the acquisition then.

-Foxtrot1d 13h ago

Didn’t they make the swipe for Bethesda when Sony wanted like 6 months exclusiveness for Starfield

It’s like…chill, you got Rise of the Tomb Raider for a year.

romulus231d 13h ago

Do they always come with senseless cuts becasue that's exactly what cutting Tango was, senseless.

H91d 15h ago

Everyone's acting now that game companies care about games and Xbox is committing the Ultimate betrayal, they are all like this and you have just been quiet about it for far too long

Nuclearmoon1d 13h ago

I wonder if Microsoft do pull out of the console market that it might open the door for valve to relaunch the Steambox. Competition is good for the industry but Microsoft don't even seem to be trying anymore.

UltimateOwnage1d 10h ago

Steam / Valve are one of the few truly pro-consumer bright spots in gaming right now. Thankfully.
