First the PS4 Neo, Now the Xbox One Scorpio—Trouble For the Nintendo NX?

— Nintendo Enthusiast:

Nintendo already has quite the bounty over its head due to its questionable actions within the last few years. Now with talks of its competitors coming out with new systems, the question pops up: is the NX being set-up to lose?

that's what people said before the Wii U release. we know how it turned out.

never4get2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

Nintendo NX got supplemental computing device/external gpu tech. AMD R9 nano 8.19 TeraFLOPS.

XisThatKid2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

First off I'm pretty sure they'll launch with a bit of dated tech I 'll be surprised if it's slightly more versatile maybe not TOO much stronger than I ps4 or X1 but either way by today's standard that's not good if it launches post 2014 with that . Now Sony and MS at least can say they launched that in 2013 with grace and now mud stepping in 2016-17? Again looks likeNinty will be behind the margin of tech standards.

The system still can be successful with dated tech but with the flak they are getting and in my opinion much over due and very deserved they have to choke out of the gate blowing EVERYONE'S not just Ninty fans that just easy up everything the big N churns outs colons through their sctrote or in vice versa to even come near a success or profitable. That's just my view.

NewMonday2892d ago

Nintendo always seem to be a day late and a dollar short

kevnb2892d ago

They've been profitable, at the end of the day that's the goal.

Stealth20k2892d ago

Also what people said about 3DS, DS, Wii and look how that turned out.

Zeldafan642892d ago

When there were so many people going around lying about the Wii U before it even released it shows just how pathetic you sony and microsoft fanboys really are. Especially sony fanboys, you people have no dignity or honor.

Fin_The_Human2892d ago

Nintendo as a company has been profitable thanks to the 3DS and Pokémon but no thanks to the WiiU.

Also, remember 2 years ago when the CEO and the rest of the bi shots took pay cuts.. Iam sure they cant afford to take anymore.

JackBNimble2892d ago

A day late and a dollar shot...lol ... good song though .

Maybe nintendo finally realized that the casual market are stuck playing candy crush and other shit games on their Iphones. It's do or die now, if Nintendo can't figure it out now then it most likely all over for gaming for them.

I hope they find success , I really do. We all need them in the market , whether you play their games or not.

With Nintendo it's hit or miss. It's hard to now what to expect from the NX right now.

mochachino2892d ago

Nintendo has been missing something since N64.

They got lucky with Wii.

DragonPaw2892d ago

Nintendo didn't grow up with its fan base. They have stuck to their guns with their own games and made their tech incompatible with multiplats.

When the 64 came out, I was a full on PC gamer, because consoles couldn't come close to the tech in my awesome hand me down PC. Last gen was when consoles tried and succeeded in bridging the gap between PC gaming coinciding with great exclusives. Nintendo sold gimmicks last gen, twice.

They have to stop going their own way unless they just want to make kids toys. I want Nintendo to succeed, but it is like they are selling phone chargers for some obscure type of phone. (Who can't relate with the phone charger metaphor lol)

Lennoxb632891d ago

@mochachino

No. Nintendo has been missing since the Gamecube. Everything after that has been a failure gaming wise.

Shubhendu_Singh2892d ago

In 2017, we will have PSNeo already out and XBoxScorpio going to come out.
In terms of 3rd party support, NX will be right back where WiiU started - underpowered.

Also Emily Rogers insider claims a 99% sure possibility that NX won't use the x86 architecture. So bye bye easy ports.
NX will do fine on its own,...but if people are thinking it to be powerful as a PS4Neo or have third party support this time? Kiss that thought badbye. I'm sorry.

GordonKnight2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

Everything on the net about NX, Neo, & X2 are all speculation. Who knows? The Neo might only add the ability to play 4K Blu-rays and the NX could be using 14nm Polaris GPU. Time will tell though and I can't wait to see what these new systems have to offer.

fatneal2892d ago

wasnt it rumored that nintendo had new tech that could easily drag n drop code that converted it to make it compatible with nintendo systems?

Deadpooled2892d ago

True, why would the article writer suspect the Nx would be weaker than its competitors without knowing the specs? Never know, it could turn out to be stronger, a beast like the n64 compared to its competition

masterfox2892d ago

"No, they'll be just fine." <--- This the mentality of why Nintendo is so f#$#cked up right now ;)

Phunkydiabetic12892d ago

Pfff hahaha hahaha hahahaha. Yeah. Yeah they will be fine.

2892d ago
pcz2892d ago

for the NX to be in trouble suggests it was once in a good place. it has never been in a good place.

nobody except hardcore gamers know what an nx is. nobody but gamers who keep an ear to the industry (ie all us who read n4g and the like) will ever know.

its going to be a commercial failure

rainslacker2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

Well...without rumored specs for the NX, how could we possibly know how it will fare?

Maybe the journalists should make up some rumors for it so we can speculate on how NX will fail due to the rumors of the Neo and Scorpio specs.

Methinks this article is jumping the gun here by not making up a rumor first.

On a side note, I hope the NX is a $600 6+ TFlop system. I want to laugh and see if people really are all about the power regardless of price, or if they're just playing their preferences. I know it's unlikely to be that, but would be some real fun in the comment sections.

hduce2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

I think if the NX is close to the power and architecture of the Neo and Scorpio whether it be right out the box or with the rumored supplemental computing device they will be alright. The one advantage the NX will have over its competitors is that games can be built exclusively for the hardware unlike the Neo or Scorpio which developers with have to include the original versions of those systems meaning that those systems may not get utilized to their potential. Other factors also include price, marketing, and exactly what is the NX?

conanlifts2892d ago

I really hope nintendo make a decent console. If it is only on par with the ps4 /xbox one and they do actually release a neo/ scorpio they will again struggle.
I did have a random thought. Nintendo keep saying it is different. What if it was capable of tapping into the power of other devices. I don't think it's possible, but what if they did it somehow. Silly dream, but hey, why not dream and hope.

hduce2892d ago

Anything is possible at this point. We still have no idea what it is exactly. I am excited to learn more about the NX. Nintendo has said that it is not a continuation of the Wii brand which could mean a fresh new start for the company but who knows? I am not going to write it or Nintendo off until I have some more concrete information.

Gotcha52892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

X1 and PS4 are already capable of tapping into other devices...PC, Smartphones and tablets. IMO...Nintendo will always be behind the times (console wise).

starwarrior002892d ago

The way I see it, its not the power of the console that costed them sales but the marketing. This is according to a friend of mine. He also says 'Wii U" sounds like it is an add-on for the Wii.

In my opinion, its not the power that matters but what you do with it. I already plan to get the NX when it comes out along with the upcoming Zelda game. I can hardly contain the hype!

KillZallthebeast2892d ago

lol Nintendo is like this magical unicorn who does whatever they want. I highly doubt they even care about sony or Microsoft

XisThatKid2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

Agreed and the option select like a mofo they only admit they are "competing" when they're doing well. And this facade that they aren't competing is ridiculous. Everything that plays games is fighting over a space in a multi terrain market even if it doesn't offer the same experiences people will compare and contrast and buy over each other, hell some people well just buy a new Iphone instead of a PS4 as some kind of gamer even though most consider mobile market separate. "Same country different city" popular opinion rules a great deal of this industry even though people like me hate it but it exists and ascends or buries products weather they are good or bad.

AKR2892d ago

Considering that all three companies are in the same market, trust me, they all "care"—they're all after your money. Nintendo has always done things its own way. That doesn't mean it doesn't care, it just prefers to walk to the beat of its own drum.

KillZallthebeast2892d ago

if Nintendo cared they would of made a pokemon game that wasn't garbage on their main console

KillZallthebeast2892d ago

If it makes it easier to accept the gospel of me I have owned every handheld they have ever made...well the first iterations perhaps not the 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.inifity

AngelicIceDiamond2892d ago

In a way I can see Sony and MS influencing Nintendo to revaluate the specs of the NX. But I highly doubt Nintendo can nor willing to compete with them on that front.

onisama2892d ago (Edited 2892d ago )

i beleive ms and sony can make it harder for nintendo as 80 % of the gamer have limited budget including me so we can t buy all those consoles ..but i also beleive that the biggest enemy for nintendo is themself as nintendo is unique and have a big fans base so the only nintendo have to do is not to screw up things

Nintendo Is A Bad Company, But We Can't Help Loving Them Anyway

TG: “Most of us also grew up with Nintendo, likely forming a nostalgic connection with games that have long been crowned as our personal favourites. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was an experience that shaped my view on open world fantasy, and Super Mario 64 changed my life like it did for millions of others. These titles have earned their place in history, and remain loved to this day for so many worthwhile reasons. We replay them and beg for remasters all while delving into their worlds time and time again because they mean that much to us. It’s a shame then that the company behind them often kicks its own sweet darlings to the curb.”

I never got the love for Nintendo games personally. The annoying vocalizations and ugly character designs do nothing for me.

Tapani334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Another very weird article.

Nintendo is a great company by almost all possible normal measures. The biggest one being: their own staff is happy, and they seem to be very happy, well compensated and retain rate is solid. They are also financially very stable, profitable, and cash rich, so shareholders love them.

Overall it is an extremely creative group of people, and their mission statement is fantastic as well "to put smiles on the faces of everyone we touch. We do so by creating new surprises for people across the world to enjoy together." The social impact is also massive, not to speak culturally. Additionally, they have a really strong core business, high customer retention rate and loyalty. Nintendo's reputation is extremely good, I think in the US alone they are 9th most reputable company, their customer service is better than the average company. Plus, the press gives them a pass, because they are Nintendo. But there's a reason why they do that, it's not "because they are Nintendo", there are more layers to the argument.

Then, then there's the random negative gamers online...and their "reputation" which is inside their heads. And their western ideas of how a Japanese company should behave or what they should do. But they have no right to ask a company to do anything for them, because they can vote with their wallets.

There's a small vocal community online who dislikes Nintendo for what they are, but then again, there's always a small vocal community that dislikes something.

Nintendo also disagrees with the Western world about IP, but most people call Westerners "hidoi!" when they emulate Tears of the Kingdom and do not experience it the way Nintendo wanted them (even if it is not the best visual way), because it is a matter of principle to them (Japanese are very much against anything close to plagiarism, and there are laws that are tight about creative works copying etc.)

The Western Braveheart "freedoom!" shouters need to understand that it is not an American company, nor they need to behave like one. They can have their own fights based on their principles (against emulation). And they very well may lose the battle with that and change, or find a new audience.

In the end, it is so very simple. Don't buy the products if you don't like a company, but there's no need to paint a picture that is unrealistic about Nintendo either.

MadLad334d ago

I hate virtually everything about their business practices, actually. Suing everybody for virtually anything, shooting down fan projects, games they never let devalue, their online infrastructure and how they handle BC.

They're lucky they make great games, because that's the only thing I feel they do right.

gold_drake334d ago

my issue with them, is the complete refusal to have decent tech for us.

and their odd censorship and lawsuits for modders.
