Ubisoft vs Bethesda – The Industry Double Standard

The Fallout 4 Far Harbor expansion was released earlier this week. It is by far the most beefy of all the DLC released for the third best selling game of 2015. As like most open world Bethesda games, two things remain constant:

1. Its fun and engrossing
2. Its a buggy mess

The game suffers from two major bugs. First, NPC dialogue constantly overlaps between sentences. Not only does this make dialogue difficult to hear, but also destroys any sense of environmental immersion. Watch the 44 minute mark of the video below. Second, your character textures often disappear when your talking, aka Assassin’s Creed Unity circa 2014. These aren’t one offs either. They happened frequently in the first ten hours I’ve played (still not done yet). Other bugs I encountered (albeit not as frequent) were: my character getting stuck in front of a computer terminal, and not being able to exit my power armor.

I really like the things pointed out in this article but the site really need an editor for the spelling mistakes.

TetraNinja2914d ago

Its a passion project website. We don't run ads. Literally just a bunch of idiots like myself spouting ideas. :) Will try better next time though!

Good luck with your work then.

Hey I like your website. The layout is clean.

Good for you, my friend.

But bethesda game's have more content, better content, and no micro transactions or stupid ubisoft downgrades or just in general stupid unpolished ubisoft shit in their games like unpolished game features.....so when they have glitches it kinda makes up for it with the game just being dope.

The reason why we give ubisoft flack is just because assasin creed games have just recently sucked. If it was actually a good game with glitches we would not say much or atleast not as much

We give flack to crappy games that have glitches more just because there's no other redeeming factor of them so its harder to ignore the glitches.

I get it that bethesda should be called out for the glitches but I can tell you right now when people give ubisoft flack for all the glitches, all most of all of them just in general hate the game too....

TwoForce2914d ago

I agree your opinion about Bethesada. I do enjoy the game but the buggy stuff can not be ignore.

Meh....bethesda makes up for it imo just by making a better game so i excuse the glitches because the game is more fun to play than any other game i've played in awhile and that's what we all buy a game for...

A glitch will happen in fallout 4 but ill just forget about it because something awesome will happen around the corner...

In ubisoft games a glitch will happen and then ill see a crappy gameplay mechanic.....how do you think it will make me feel?

exkalibur972914d ago

and this comment right here is the shinning example of how hypocritical people have become

ecchiless2914d ago

@exkalibur97

Yea we "humans" always do this kind of thing, we condemn what we dont like even when what we like have the same problems or more.

Dark_Overlord2914d ago

I agree and have been saying it for years, Bugthesda always get a free pass and it's BS, they should be ripped apart for the buggy/glitchy crap they release >:(

phoenixwing2914d ago

@dark i agree with you although the moment they release the next elder scrolls all will be forgiven and i"ll probably buy it lol Mainly because they make fun awesome games in spite of the bugs.

freshslicepizza2914d ago

it's a double standard that will never go away. so many here cannot take the namebrand away from the content. it's why we have so many console war feuds going on, so much hate for publishers like ea and so on. they see comoanies like ubisoft gouging consumers and milking franchises like assassins creed. with a game like fallout they see the developer trying to give as much content as possible and be more pasionate with its fans and a fallout game doesn't come out every year.

i wish everyone could focus on one game at a time but they can't. they look at ubisoft as a whole and it reflects their views on each ubisoft game.

Majin-vegeta2914d ago

Yup like Bugrim a broken game tsking GOTY over UC3.

nowitzki20042913d ago

Arkham City was GOTY imo that year and Portal 2 and Deus Ex were better than Skyrim or UC3 as well.

thelaughingwiseman2914d ago

This is more about the franchises main attractions. Assassins Creed vs Fallout and how the gamers react to the amount of glitches. I think it has more to do with the content. There is only a finite amount of space in areas of Assassins Creed while Fallout has huge maps for which to explore. So the glitches become more apparent and game breaking for Assassins Creed while they are found humorous in Fallout games. Fallout has a lot of content, people tend to enjoy the experience a lot and find novelty in the glitches that do come about.

I still have not bought Fallout 4 and have little desire to until ths price goes down to $20. I did buy the Witcher 3 on day 1 for full price however.

Microsoft's Absurd Antics Have Me Scared For Dishonored And Arkane Lyon's Future

With Arkane Austin no more and Lyon living for who knows how long, the superb Dishonored is in serious danger; Microsoft cannot be trusted.

Relientk775h ago

I love the Dishonored series so much and really want Dishonored 3. Microsoft better not screw this up.

JEECE2h ago

I mean, I think the fans will probably kill Arkane Lyon by cooking up reasons to hate whatever they do next without playing it. I've never seen a game so artificially disliked as Deathloop.

thesoftware7301h ago

Lol, why don't we just say, we are worried about all studios owned by MS now. They will keep closing studios until they have none left ...🙄

Bogus!
Why would Sony do that and how would this benefit them?
1) It would piss off their media partners (IGN, Gamespot, Edge, etc.) since they would have to allocate resources fast to cover the event.
2) Risk of not having great coverage or proper coverage from the various source
3) It could give the impression that they are not confident in their own stuff.
4) They would miss the chance to hype the event losing viewers and losing free marketing time.

Again I'm calling it bogus unless it's a small showcase before the big one or because they want to announce that Hellbalde 2 is also coming on PS5.

SlothLordPootus3h ago

As far as I can remember, they typically give a week heads up for these sorts of things.

Lightning773h ago

I was about to say Sony always gives a week in advance for their show.

VersusDMC2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Last year it was a weeks notice.

https://blog.playstation.co...

May 17th announcement for may 24th show.

VersusDMC2h ago

Nintendo always tweets that a direct is happening tomorrow but no one cares.

Sony gives a week or days of notice and we get anti sony type fake outrage like this.

But good luck trying trying to get some Sony hate going...

Petebloodyonion2h ago

You just mention it!
Sony gives a week in advance NOT just a couple of days.
So I fail to see what Sony's hate movement I'm trying to start when it's a basic business strategy to not piss off your partners (ask Sega).
And I doubt it's hate to ask how it would benefit Sony in doing so.

thesoftware7301h ago(Edited 1h ago)

@Versus
Huh? What?

Bro you really should relax, if what you read was some kinda negative against Sony.... seriously, is that what you got from the comments?

Bro, he was debunking the rumor, and gave perfectly good reasons why it would be unlikely, and your Nintendo Direct comparison is different, as this is supposed to be a BIG Sony showcase, not a surprise 20 min direct, and Sony 's pattern has been one week.

Slow down warmonger.

VersusDMC1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

@thesoftware730

"1) It would piss off their media partners (IGN, Gamespot, Edge, etc.) since they would have to allocate resources fast to cover the event."

That is implying Sony is preventing them from doing their job properly therefore negatively affecting their business...but i guess that's a reach in your mind?

And it's not like they need that many resources to cover the stream. They just need 3 people to react to the stream live and make some easy articles made up mostly of summaries of Sony provided press releases. They would have enough time to "prepare" if it was announced with one days notice.

Petebloodyonion2h ago

Before I get tons of replies for Sony given a week in advance, my initial comments are related to the notion that the Show could happen this week as the title mentions.
Now to be fair the complete article mentions that Jeff said the Show could happen later in May giving time for Sony to give the normal 7-day notice.

Again not trying to start a negative thing here just thinking that it's bogus that Sony will have a show this week

notachance1h ago

Yeah as much as I’d like to hear what sony’s 1st parties have cooked, it’s not their style to shadow drop a showcase.

Still waiting for ghost of tsushima 2, I’m ready whenever man..

Square Enix Preparing for Layoffs in U.S. and Europe Amid Heavy Restructuring

In a town hall that took place on Monday, Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu reportedly confirmed imminent layoffs in the U.S. and Europe.

Square should ask Sony for more money...

Outside_ofthe_Box4h ago

Square should ask Microsoft to buy them out...

FinalFantasyFanatic2h ago

@Outside_ofthe_Box,
So that Microsoft can close down the studio after doing nothing with them? Right...

gleepot8h ago

Sad but true. It's the consequence of a shift in player habits, massive overhead, and out of control budgets across the industry.

blackblades10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

What did NA and EU did anyways? Just translate or something? I would say it might help them get back to there roots but DK.

Hofstaderman9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Actually, you are correct they play a hand in localization especially in Europe with the many languages. That and marketing.
