The Division: A Guide to Surviving the Dark Zone Solo

GamingLives writes: "Not being one for MMOs, PVP, or anything that involves playing with those I’ve never met, it was with some trepidation that my co-op partner and I wandered in to The Division‘s Dark Zone for the first time.  It wasn’t a planned affair, and the decision to enter came only because we found ourselves standing outside one of the gated checkpoints after completing an encounter.  The problem with that was that we entered at DZ03 rather than dipping our toes into the heavily infected, yet calmer, waters of DZ01.  Our progress was hesitant at first, going from cover to cover without ever leaving ourselves in the open, as we’d heard that it was a dangerous and unpleasant place to be.  After three or four minutes of no confrontations whatsoever, we got a little blasé with the whole thing and ran down the middle of each street as though we owned the place. Tip 1: Don't
Tip 2: Seriously....Don't
Tip 3: I told you
Tip 4: Get your own loot back I've got stuff to do

I got to level 48 solo, but stopped after the stupid 1.1 update that was shoving me into the 161+ dz even though my gs was only 155.

JackBNimble2914d ago (Edited 2914d ago )

I have made it to dz level 69 solo and my gear score is still just 182.

gaminglives2914d ago

I believe the DZ placement is to do with everything that you have on your person (whether it's equipped or not) as well as whatever is in your stash. So if you have higher-end items kicking around in your stash then that's affecting the zone placement. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but it certainly was a while ago.

kneon2914d ago

@gaminglives

I know, but why should stuff in my stash have any impact on my GS? I can't access it once I'm in the DZ so it's stupid to count that against me. I would understand if I were carrying it as you don't want people suddenly gearing up after entering the lower tier DZ.

gaminglives2914d ago

@kneon

Absolutely. When I read that someone suggested creating a secondary character, getting them as far as the Base of Operations, then transferring all of your stuff into the stash and then have that second character pick them up just so it wouldn't interfere with your DZ placement I thought it was ridiculous. Just one more thing that needs to be changed to balance things out.

I joined n4g just to say thank you for this I tried it and it made everything alot easier

No worries; just glad it could help. There'll be times when it won't make any difference, like if a load of rogues are chasing you down and are unrelenting, but for regular scenarios it should make a huge difference.

Last night, for example, I watched from the safe room scaffolding in DZ02 while three players kept running at the building in front, then running back again. After a few moments, one of them breached the wall and ended up inside the building, then not long after that the other two did the same. The three of them stayed in there and I made my exit as sneakily as possible.

Few moments later I saw rogues appear on the screen and it was just around the corner, so I checked the map and they were rogue inside the building. That's when the notifications started to appear of other folk being killed, so these people were clearly camped out inside a breached building where nobody could see them and were picking people off as they headed into the safe room.

When you've got your back to three rogues who are untouchable inside the environment and are shooting you as you climb up the rope into the safe room, no skills or talents will keep you alive.

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

-Foxtrot402d ago

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno402d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic402d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman402d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon401d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
