It's Time For Nintendo To Celebrate 'Metroid' The Way It Deserves

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Metroid series. ScreenCritics explores why the series is wrong to skip the Wii U and focus on the ill-advised Federation Force for 3DS.

Wouldn't it be great if they had new Metroid, Monster Hunter, Zelda, Mario, and others available at launch for the NX?

FalloutWanderer20772917d ago (Edited 2917d ago )

Sure but AFAIK, Zelda is a Wii-U game. Unless they have another studio doing one for the NX launch.
OK, so let me get this straight, the new Zelda is going to be a dual console release? Or is there a completely different Zelda in development for the NX? Here's this new info. I came across -
"The Legend of Zelda for Wii U will be playable for the first time at E3. Nintendo will transform its booth at the E3 video game trade show next month in Los Angeles to immerse fans in the world of the newest game in The Legend of Zelda franchise – playable for the first time ever at the show. To ensure attendees are able to truly experience the freedom of exploration the game offers, The Legend of Zelda for Wii U"
Ironically, I'm being downvoted when it states clear as day, playable on the Wii-U, I see nothing talking about the NX.

It was already confirmed that Zelda is going to be a launch title on NX. Nintendo confirmed it on their Twitter about a week ago. From the looks of it it will easily have 200 hours of gameplay, if you want to 100% it that is.

FalloutWanderer20772917d ago (Edited 2917d ago )

Thanks for the downvote whoever did it ;) Excuse me for not following Nintendo news everyday. I just read an article recently that was talking about Zelda being on the Wii-U and that it was delayed and would have a big showing at this years E3. The article even made mention that at one point this new Zelda was rumored to be put on hiatus for the Wii-U and was moving development to the NX. Wasn't this game announced years ago? Damn they're taking their good ole time. Well as long as its a great game, take all the time that you need Nintendo .

I love the Zelda IP, it's one of my most beloved and nostalgic game series. I'm old enough to actually remember playing Mario and Zelda back when they first debuted on the NES in the 80's. * SO it's a dual console release, I wasn't technically wrong after all - http://www.gamespot.com/art...

For the record I wasn't the one that gave you the disagree (downvote). No one knows for sure if both versions will launch on the same day or be spread out a couple weeks apart like what they did with Twilight Princess.

Zeldafan642917d ago

I'm thinking we'll have all those except maybe Monster Hunter by the end of next year.

OhMyGandhi2917d ago

If NX is supposed to be even more powerful then the PS4, Why NOT have Retro take the reigns and make a super realistic metroid for the new system. It makes way to much sense.

GrimDragon2917d ago (Edited 2917d ago )

It's sad the way nintendo handled this franchise the past few years. Nintendo protects the rights on this game so hard you can't even make a fan movie of it. But the company does absolutely nothing with this IP. very frustrating.

FalloutWanderer20772917d ago (Edited 2917d ago )

Same goes for Metroid. I don't even own a Wii or Wii-U, I would of got one if there were enough games when they launched and if I had the extra funds in general, If the NX is backwards compatible, I think I might grab one, depending on the price at launch. I miss playing Nintendo games, I haven't owned a Nintendo console sine the Gamecube, which was an awesome system. I love Mario, Zelda, Metroid, DK, Star Fox etc. When was Legend of Zelda for Wii-U first announced? 2013?

Tbot382917d ago

If you love Nintendo games, you have been missing out since the GC.

FalloutWanderer20772916d ago

@Tbot38 I know. I haven't had the extra money to own either the Wii or Wii-U :( My plan is to make sure I buy the NX shortly after launch.

Blacklash932917d ago

I really want another 2D Metroid, in particular. It's been so long.

FalloutWanderer20772917d ago

2.5D would be pretty cool as well IMHO. A 2D Metroid would also be nice. 2D sidescrollers have had a renaissance lately, a real resurgence of Metroidvanias and sidescroller beat em ups and shooters, plus those games that are a mix of genres.

As a long time fan of metroid, I've waited years for Nintendo to make new metroid games. and they don't seem to care as much anymore to keep the series at the forefront. So, you have to rely on the fan creators out there who are making great stuff. Like in open bor and mugen.

But gamers need to keep an eye on this remake being created of metroid 2 that I had on gameboy. Why Nintendo never updated this one is surprising. But check this out

And there is a demo too

Tbot382917d ago

They stated, same with Retro, that they don't want to do another Metroid for the sake of doing a Metroid game; rather they want to make sure there is a very good story to tell. Must not have been any good ideas as of late.

Stealth20k2917d ago

It is not that important.

Federation Force is not ill advised.

D was a great, atmospheric horror game. It was worth the rental back in the day. Also, Limited Run Games sucks.

LRG are just glorified overpriced reproductions.... and now they can't even get that last part right. I make better repros using my own stack of CD-R.

mastershredder10h ago

Just don’t. 3DO games were the worst. Imagine paying premium prices for a dog-crap version of a game. The era of barely trying or understanding their own tech and charging asinine prices… 3DN0. It’s best that you don’t admit that you had one of these.

Popsicle8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

The 3DO was ahead of its time and one of the first to enter the 32 bit console space. Yes FMV games are awful, but at the time there was a real thirst for games to look like movies. Removing the FMV games the 3DO had Gex, a solid Myst port, and was often the best place to play non-SNK (best on NEO GEO) near arcade perfect arcade ports. Their downfall was poor marketing and a high price point for a time when consoles were considered to be kids toys.

It was certainly superior to the “64 bit” Jaguar, which was falsely advertised as stronger hardware and had one of the worst console controllers in history.

Limited Run Games makes me sick. The prices they ask are ridiculous and then the whole burning discs instead of pressing them is pretty disgusting. This is a company that takes their customers for a ride and demands extortion level prices for a product, like we’re talking 2x to 3x more than MSRP.
