Nioh on PS4: 1080p30 or 720p60 - you decide

Of course, it's the performance metrics that are perhaps the most interesting thing here. Action mode doesn't quite hit the target, but it gets you close to the traditional Team Ninja 60fps experience. In this 720p mode, Nioh averages around 55fps, but the busiest sections can see this dip even lower. It's far from optimal but thankfully, this is an alpha version and the development team has plenty of time to polish the game up for release.

I would rather see them achieve a solid 60fps than to bump it up to 900p. I mean, if they can do both then of course I'm all for it. But currently the action mode doesn't maintain 60fps very well and it results in a lot of stutter.

I hope they will put in an option to cap the framerate at 30fps. Especially for movie mode.

I love this game, though. I beat the demo and I want more. It's going to be so hard to wait for it to come out.

Naw bro.. I have a 65in 4K tv and you can tell 720 from 1080.. I have a wii u.. I never said x1 is a bad machine, i said i dont like it.. I have all i like to play on PS4 and Wii U.. Performance is better to me but having higher res is a plus

your loss, they are all great systems. Not to mention, you're really fooling yourself. I have a 4k 70" TV and do the comparisons all the time. If you weren't told which is which....you wouldn't know. To each their own, but I choose the X1 as my lead console for a few reasons, and SOMETIMES having a better res on PS4 is never enough to make me change my mind.

To a top end PC like mine or a high end gaming rig then yes, however compared to the majority of PC's sold commercially today then no.

When I played Nioh at 1080p on my IPL monitor it looked quite detailed and it did not appear to have much slowdown at all even when four or five enemies were on-screen.. Likewise when I display to my 55" 200Hz HDTV although it dose not play and look as good on a standard HDTV.

More options are always better. Including Action Mode (1080p30) and Movie Mode (720p60) in your console game would be the best thing ever. It would be nice if they can up that 720p to 900p atleast. (it's 2016 afterall)

The HD standard is only 1080p, 1080i and 720p. What 900p is is the graphical rendering of 1600x900 pixels progressivism scan which is then unscaled in the console to 1920x1080 pixels or 1080p. It must be noted that I am assuming an aspect ration of 16:9 which is basically the industry standard.

Do you honestly expect the so called PS4 NEO to actually play games at 4K 60Hz when most expensive high end gaming rigs can barely just manage that. Up-scaling, possibly but natively no.

I went with the 60 FPS to see how smooth it runs. It's a well done game but man it's no hack n slash. I died a lot.

I would say the game is more compatible to Blooborne except you not only get buckets of blood but limbs flying in all directions. The reason I say that is I had just finished a Chalice dungeon and started playing the game expecting no more than 30 minutes of game play. Four hours later I thought to myself that I am very tired and I better go to bed.

I also died allot since I had to get used to the different controls and that odd lock-on which actually does work but it is very easy to turn your back on an enemy and anyone who has played Bloodborne or the Souls games knows that is like committing suicide.

Yes, 30 fps was brutal, the only reason they have that choice is because how bad it performs in 1080p.
I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting more Onimusha and less Dead Souls. I don't know where the comparison to Onimusha came from because there's really nothing similar about the two games.

To me the game played like Bloodborne and that is directly coming from playing Bloodborne to playing Nioh. The controls are also different which caused me to die allot in the first hour. Graphically it also looked quite nice on my IPS monitor in movie mode although I did notice some slowdown when there were allot of enemies on screen at once and that as just before I died since I still have to come to grips with the control set-up.

It doesn't look all that impressive in either mode, at first look it seems like a 360/PS3 game (Mostly in reference to the stale character motion movements and lack of particle effects/atmospherics). It definitely looks more smooth in the action mode. Most importantly, as long as it's fun, then it will be a good game.
