When PS4K Comes Out, What Will Make You Buy It Day 1?

When the new "PS4 Neo" shows up, what will entice current PlayStation 4 owners to get it right out of the gate? Will it really only matter for VR?

I guess alot of people who are getting VR will get it right out of the gate. Im waitng to see how VR goes and how much more of a "Upgrade" this Neo will actually be on games. If i can get games like Horizon zero dawn and Uncharted at 1080 60 fps, ill most likely sell my ps4 and a couple games for $200. Got my ps4 new for 375 a couple years ago. All in all spending the extra couple hundred for a brand new PS4 might be completely worth it. But also this upgrade is still minimum enough where i wouldn't be complaining if i couldn't afford it.

NewMonday2945d ago

also 1440p60fps is very feasible

Cindy-rella2945d ago

Ill buy it if its a more powerful ps4 on day one

BenRC012945d ago

It will be worthless once neo is out.

Brotard2944d ago

If I have a 4K tv by the time it comes out. For sure.

I'm not afraid of upgrading. It's like buying a new phone. They are better, there isn't much drastically different about the usually you just get a more powerful one now.

Consoles and speakers are literally the only industry in technology that don't have a yearly refresh and people are losing their mind over 3-4 for your incremental refresh. give me a brake.

SmielmaN2944d ago

I would buy it day one if it had an 1-2 TB hard drive, 25%+ improvement in cpu/gpu power, enhanced PSVR operation. That would make it very enticing

rainslacker2944d ago

A substantial trade in offer is about all that would entice me. I'm not confident that games that truly take advantage of the new specs will be forthcoming right away, and I can't imagine anything releasing this holiday is going to see much benefit at all since Neo wasn't in the plans for those games. Since such an offer isn't likely to extend more than a few months, I'll likely just wait until the price comes down to a point that makes it worth it for any games that actually do take advantage of it, which could be a year or two.

Otherwise, if it's a half-assed implementation, devalues the console as a whole, and see's a complete lack of consideration for the old console from developers, I won't bother to upgrade, and will just go somewhere else for my gaming needs. First year or two of any new console is always a waiting game, and it's not a game that I wish to partake in for the long haul. The era of cross-gen ports being standard is far from my idea of good gaming.

Day 1? For sure, I hope that it can (at least) handle all PS4 games at 1080p/60fps, Imagine Horizon, Uncharted 4, Infamous SS, Dark Souls 3, GTA V and Battlefield 5 at 1080p/60fps, now that would be AWESOME!!

Whirlwind_Fanfare_082945d ago (Edited 2945d ago )

With the extra CPU, GPU and memory, i'm confident it will!

DopeTech2945d ago

Yeah I'm really hoping that, exciting times at E3!!

uth112944d ago

It can't handle all PS4 games at 1080/60. Old games will need to be patched to take advantage (according to the Sony docs) and there's no guarantees all games will receive such a patch

BenRC012945d ago

Wife bought me the star wars 1tb ps4 for xmas. No way im upgrading and no way im being stuck with inferior ports. Devs will totally develop for neo to make better trailers and screenshots (we already suffer "bullshots" from the pc versions) and then gimp the ps4 version. WORST IDEA EVER. Some of us are adults who cant just yank on mommys dress till she buys us new shinys. This is the excuse i need to jack in consoles altogether. Sony you ******* up big time.

ArchangelMike2945d ago

But Sony is not foring you to buy it. Your PS4 works just find, so just coninue playing and enjoyimg the games you know and love.

tmisellati2945d ago (Edited 2945d ago )

how did you know ? how did you know that sony and the devs will continue to support the old model and won't push us to buy the ps4 neo ?
there is no guarantee at all...

uth112944d ago

We see how this game is played with other companies. Sure they won't "force" you to upgrade. But they will gradually make it more painful to stick with the old until you do.

DopeTech2945d ago

Now what does better looking trailers and bullshots that will get downgraded have anything to do with the PS4 NEO?

Your wife bought you a 1TB PS4, so just stick with it, and you'll have the same games on PS4 and PS4 NEO, think logic next time and don't act emotional, you're stuck with inferior ports even before that, PC versions look better than PS4 versions and can run at 1080p/60fps or even 4K If you have that kind of PC.

I think the PS4 NEO is a great idea, It's just another PS4 but a much more powerful one, they will share the same games, trophies, content, saved game files, etc but the ONLY difference is the graphics and FPS/Res, that's all.

Maxor2945d ago

Yank on your wife's dress and ask her to buy you a new one or a be a big boy and buy one yourself.

LightofDarkness2945d ago (Edited 2945d ago )

"No way im upgrading and no way im being stuck with inferior ports."

I look forward to seeing how you plan on preventing the latter. I too am an adult, but I am a different adult from you who can afford to buy things like this, provided I am notified at least 1 or 2 months in advance. I imagine I have a good 6 months at this point, so I will use my amazing budgeting skills to set aside the price of admission so when the time comes, I can haves what I wants. You know, like an adult.

BenRC012944d ago

I can buy all the consoles i want, (just prefer big turbos and exhausts lol) what im saying is sony is targeting spoilt kids and dumb adults.

Nightmar3Demom2944d ago

Dude, you're arguing logic to a bunch of kids. Good luck with that.

A decent trade in deal on my old one. though it's got a 2tb hdd in it so i'd need to swap that out.

PSN_ZeroOnyx2945d ago

That's a good idea though it would better if Sony instituted a trade-in/upgrade program, we would obviously have a difference to pay out of pocket. I still have my original PS4 HDD, I upgraded to a 2TB HDD too.

I doubt such a program happens, just wishful thinking. I'll keep this PS4 for my wife and upgrade outright to NEO.

wheresmymonkey2944d ago

Sony Won't but the likes of game probably will. They had a really good one with the new 3ds.

Ghost Of Tsushima's PSN May Be Online-Only, But People Still Can't Play It

Sucker Punch’s massive samurai adventure Ghost of Tsushima has come under fire because of the PSN requirement. However, unlike Helldivers 2, things are a lot different and more logical this time.

thorstein11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

"Sony has made it clear long before its release that the PSN requirement is strictly for the online multi-player Legends mode in Ghost of Tsushima and the PlayStation overlay. Online connection or PSN is not applied to the single-player campaign, which is honestly what the game is all about."

Extermin8or3_2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Legends clearly was based around using the pan they hardly want to have to design a whole new account structure just to play it, that's alot of effort and work. Ultimately people kicked up a fuss despite there being workarounds in most of those territories that people with a ps console have used over there for literally like 15/16 years. This is the consequence of that, be careful what you wish for or demand because you don't necessarily get to pick the method by which you get it.

melmacj12m ago

This game is not Helldivers 2. Every game doesn’t need to be Call of Duty. I may or may not play one minute of the online component. I’m buying it solely for the story/campaign. Sony needs to integrate it better but Microsoft does the same with Xbox live account. It’s an ecosystem they will always want to tie into the console audience and frankly don’t know why this is such a big deal.
