I thought Warner Bros forgot they mentioned doing this HD collection a long time ago

BosSSyndrome2957d ago (Edited 2957d ago )

I dont understand why we're putting the "HD" suffix onto remastered collections of games that were already in HD to begin with.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA2957d ago

Its hd into hd. So 720p to 1080p next will be 1080p to 4k then 4k into 8k....

Id be more impressed with games from ps1 era remastered in 1080p
Pretty much like ratchet and clank even though it was a ps2 game

Minimox162957d ago

@ Warnut

umm imagine The legend of Dragoon, Breath of Fire 3-4, xenogears, Megaman Legends, FFs with that new Ratchet and Clank treatment *_*!

Seraphim2957d ago

I'm with ya BosS. Just call them Remasters. Technically one can argue they're 720p or whatever being upgraded to native 1080p but regardless these were originally HD games. So call them Remasters at best.

I'm certainly not spending $60 on this but Arkham Asylum was a fantastic game. Easily one I'd likely go ahead and play again. Arkham City on the other hand was ok so I'd be less inclined to spend time replaying that. Be interesting to see just how much they've done to improve it.

RosweeSon2956d ago

But like the older TV's this is now FULL/TRUE HD. Think they looked good enough tho do we really need them again so soon.

Muzikguy2956d ago

I'm seeing stuff like this more and more. Whether they're lying or not, it's pretty shitty marketing and sleazy tactics IMO to draw attention. I never finished Arkham City, but Asylum was awesome. I'm curious to see how much better it looks, but I'm not paying a full $60 for it

bouzebbal2956d ago

read it as "higher definition".
still awkward, i give you that.

Batman collection is really not needed, all previous gen consoles got them.. I do understand it if they were one platform exclusives and very little % could play them but that isn't the case.

kraenk122956d ago

It's just ports of the PC versions, not even remasters tbh.

Theparanerds2956d ago

That's what I've always been saying!

WiseCrack102956d ago

Ratchet isn't a remaster, it's a full scale remake like Halo 2 Anniversary and Gears UE. A remaster would be like the UC Collection or GOW3 where they just upscale it to 1080p and make it 60fps

_-EDMIX-_2956d ago

Might be simply due to marketing they want to have it known writing the title that its HD.

For all we know they probably did some study saying that having HD in the title as consumers recognize its value faster or something who knows.

showtimefolks2956d ago

the first batman is still my favorite. yes it wasn't open world with a lot of side mission but it was more focused and much better batman experience

still this trend has to stop. we are far enough into next gen and the publishers have to stop porting games from last gen to this gen

sadly many buy these remasters/pc ports so it's easy money for publishers

Pongwater2956d ago

"still this trend has to stop"

"sadly many buy these remasters/pc ports"

Yes it's always such a tragedy when people spend their money on things you don't want. Endeavor to persevere.

_-EDMIX-_2956d ago

I don't know if I agree with that I don't think this is a "trend" as porting titles has happened in almost every major generation look at last gen we got a port of Splinter Cell the Prince of Persia series hit man and a whole lot of other games.

Before stating its an issue, also state in what regards to each party.

Does this hurt consumers? I'm not sure it does as I for one didn't play all the Batman games and I would find this yo be of value I could possibly purchase this later on.

Does it affect development? I'm not sure I could say that either because the team that's doing this remaster was likely never going to make a Batman game in the first place. It's also giving a publisher more money to support the next major title.

You're free to have your opinion as is anyone on here but at least support your belief with the real reasons. All I'm hearing is that they should stop in that it's easy for them. How would stopping help consumers? Why would it being easy for them hurt us? Is it being hard for them better for you? I don't fully understand exactly the point of that being stated as if they should be suffering in development or something..lol

IamTylerDurden12956d ago

Not news to me.

Meh, i'm more interested in the Bioshock collection.

cyberwaffles2956d ago

@ Warnut

PS1 textures stretched out into 1080p? Yuck, they would look terrible.

DanielEndurance2957d ago (Edited 2957d ago )

Supposedly only includes the first two games... better be less than $40 then.

We'll see tomorrow...

OoglyBoogly2957d ago

Better be less than that. You can get each game for like under $10 now. Unless they're actual remakes then porting some years old games over to a new console and just upping the resolution some is not worth $40.

Toiletsteak2957d ago

They are 1080p 60fps the originals were 720p 30fps and these come with all the DLC.

OoglyBoogly2957d ago

@Toiletsteak

So the hell what? It's not like adding resolution and framerate is some commodity that costs money. It's a graphics option that's just upped and it's ready to go. If I can make the PC version go from 720p to 1080p with a couple clicks so can they.

$40 is too much for something that only includes two games made years ago. I don't care who disagrees.

The 10th Rider2956d ago

I got 'em both in the Humble Bundle a year or more back for like $6. Game of the year editions, too.

jb2272956d ago

@toilet

Struggling to remember what dlc there actually was? To my knowledge the first campaign dlc for the series was Cold Cold Heart from Origins, then some for Knight, but wouldn't the only dlc for the previous 2 just be challenge maps & skins?

Muzikguy2956d ago

@toilet

I rarely look at a game and think that just because it comes with the DLC that it's worth it. I don't like DLC to begin with. If I didn't buy it before, why would it justify a higher price now?

@Oogly

Hell YES!! Thank you so much for that. I never thought of it that way and now I'm looking at these things completely different. I'm guilty of buying a few but not too many. Won't be buying them anymore

IamTylerDurden12956d ago

Jb, Arkham City does have story dlc. It's Harley story dlc.

thejigisup2956d ago

I've held out buying these games simply knowing they'd do an upgraded bundle.

MilkMan2957d ago

Im pretty much over B-man games at this point.
No thank you.

hades072956d ago (Edited 2956d ago )

Origins had some game breaking and annoying glitches upon release but had the best story and boss battles.

I still have all of these games on Xbox 360. If they included Origins I would have picked it up, but as is I am skipping.

MilkMan2956d ago

I agree 100% Origins was the best of the bunch, except for asylum.

LAWSON722957d ago

Could have included origins I know it is known as a weak entry but still...

Rebel_Scum2956d ago

Origins is waaaay better than city imo. City was an open world mess.

2956d ago
The 10th Rider2956d ago

Outside of the glitches, it was better than Arkham Knight. Heck, even with glitches the PC version of Origins is better than the PC version of Arkham Knight.

Zizi2957d ago

Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are masterpieces. I'll pick it up when I can. Oh, it better be at 60fps.

higgins782957d ago

IF Ratchet & Clank PS4 cant/wont be 60fps, what chance do you think the Arkham games have of doing so, really? Seems to me - while still good - neither PS4 and/or XB1 are quite the behemoth consoles fan boys hoped/wished they were prior to launch.

Movefasta19932957d ago (Edited 2957d ago )

Ratchet was a remake, not a remaster. There already is a remaster of the ps2 trilogy of ratchets on ps3.

SO71D2957d ago

You might want to learn the difference between a remaster and a remake first.

TwoForce2956d ago

Rachet & Clank is reimagining, not a freaking remastered.

kraenk122956d ago

Where is the sense in that statement?! Why shouldn't they be able to run 5 year old PC ports?!

_-EDMIX-_2956d ago

I don't think you actually get how a game raises in frames bud. When you play a couple PC games you'll realize why a game that is lesser can run at higher frame...

I would put these games on running 60 frames-per-second easily if your factoring they are not being remade on PlayStation 4 they're merely being transferred over to Ratchet & Clank is completely remade for PS4.

Batman Return To Arkham - Arkham City Remastered Review | MGL

Rossco once again returns to arkham and this time is taking on Arkham City in his review. While the remaster of the game is decent enough, the quality of the original makes it a must play for those who missed it originally.

Don't get how this is scoring so high, maybe I'm partially to blame for not paying much attention to the news surrounding it but it looks about the same quality as the PC versions on max settings. Not to mention it's the sloppiest remaster I've ever bought..I got it a week after launch and was greeted with a 14gb (when combining both games) patch.. how the *beep* do you need a 14gb patch for a remaster of two fairly old games?

That aside though, both are still amazing games and the combat is as satisfying now as it was back when they were released. Unlike some remasters we've been seeing, this one still holds up well by today's standards.
