The links between games violence and real-world violence are dubious, but a new study has suggested a worrying new corroboration between some games and social attitudes.

It seems to me, and I'm no expert, but these studies always seem to find out what they aim to find out.

On top of that 500 years ago men regularly beat, and mistreated their wives. As far as I know they didn't have GTA, or violent movies. Fast forward to today and women are treated as equals.

Well all of these sort of studies can be easily manipulated by the researcher. They either have definitions that are too lose or they assume that correlations are a causation relationship.

For instance, you can correlate higher crime rates with building a church in an area. What some researchers will do is say that building new churches lead to higher crime rates. That would be them incorrectly and maybe even intentionally trying to create a cause and effect relationship between the two.

The actual cause and effect relationship is that because you build a church in an area it increases the number of people entering that area. The more people in an area mean the likelihood of a crime occurs increases as well. It has nothing to do with a church being built, but more people coming into an area.

The point is that its easily to manipulate or misinterpret research like this.

a extreme violent game like Just Cause
an extremely sexual game like Saints row

a mediocre game like Solitaire.

100% of the "participants" showed increase aggression from Dark Souls game. there for, DArk Souls breeds violent people.

100% of participants showed signs of laughter and humor when blowing up things in Just Cuase, proving that inmates on death row enjoy watchign the world burn

100% of participants showed lack of understanding when it comes to Saints row humorous take on GTA

0% of participants completed Solitaire.

Therefore, with all of this research i have conculded that Games are games and dont really affect people the way the media portrays. also i gots me some gum, a plushy horse and a shovel. win/win in my books :)

The title for this study is "Acting like a Tough Guy: Violent-Sexist Video Games, Identification with Game Characters, Masculine Beliefs, & Empathy for Female Violence Victims" .... and the final comment is "Unfortunately, it appears that GTA might make the world a worse place for females." That will let you know for the crap that you're in for.

The bias and the melodrama in this study is beyond extreme, and hard to stomach, considering how long this narrative has been maintained. GTA is not a sexist game, morons. "The present research shows that violent-sexist video games such as GTA ..." How? Just how??? I suppose the moral judgments for playing an R-rated video-game just haven't ceased yet (especially the scapegoated GTA). Their only evidence is that after seeing loads of violent imagery, additional violent imagery in the short-term, isn't quite as shocking. They didn't even check if the same effect applied to any other media, and just jumped to he conclusion that, "If you see a movie with a sexist character, there's a certain distance. But in a video game, you are physically linked to the character. You control what he does. That can have a real effect on your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, at least in the short term."

This is ridiculous, and lets cut to the chase. Why don't they check if people who play GTA are more likely to engage in violence against women, and just actually see whether is a pronounced effect - because its easier to draw the conclusions THAT YOU WANT by dong it this way, and they know the evidence just isn't there. Absolutely disgusting. I think the more appropriate study would be one on the physiological reasons why people, like those who conducted this study, have such an irrational hatred for games like GTA (and really, there's seems to be an underlying hatred for men and male-related activities within their writings too, which is just ... really odd - Oh know, evil "masculine beliefs").
