It means all those beautiful WiiU games I missed I will be downloading and buying on NX. Plus it could fill up the lineup when NX is on a dry spell

backwards compatibility is a must going forward. i dont care what sony or micro are doing, it makes total sense for the consumers/gamers to be able to use their old games on the new consoles.

trying to make us re-purchase games we already own through downloads and ports is total BS and nobody should support it. backwards compatibility is the answer and the solution. we invest so much money in our games/hobby just for it to be made obsolete within 5 years. its an outrage and nobody should settle for it.

if this rumour is true then its incredibly bad news because it would confirm that the NX is not backwards compatible with wiiu games.

if it is indeed not backwards compatible with wiiu games, i for one will definitely not be buying it.

it would be ironic (for me) that even though i consider the wiiu to be the worst nintendo console ever released (so bad i dont even own one, even though i have owned all other nintendo consoles,) i would make the wiiu the last nintendo console i ever purchase.

but hey, i dont even believe this is even a rumour, just something plucked out of thin air to create website hits

If there's any company you can trust with BC it's Nintendo. The NX will mostly likely be at least compatible with WiiU games. Although they might port of a few WiiU games to boost the NXs launch Line_up.

These fanboys will agree with anything the reps of their fav brands says. . one came out recently saying he's not a big believer in BC ...yet they have a streaming service for old games.. Exclusive remasters are being pumped out. Charging for old games.

How many boxes will you connect to a single TV over the years?

BC is very important to gamers. Whether it's a system seller is not our business. That's for the corps to worry about. One of the Pros of a PC.

Theres always that one game you didn't play during a generation .. Or maybe a sequel to a game is announced and you want to catch up you have to go back, theres always a reason to revisit older titles. Instead of making it a standard feature. . these Companies would rather capitalize by charging for ports and re-releases ..

Xbox one and ps4 isn't backwards compatible either. So if that alone stops you from buying any console on the market then wtf are you playing? Do you even play games?

jholden32492958d ago

Might as well. As long as they don't port the entire library, a couple games could be good. Just get Zelda, Smash (all DLC included) and maybe Splatoon.

Those games I think a lot of people would love who didn't own a Wii U.

I would say Pikmin 3 also, but it seems Pikmin 4 will be an NX launch title so...

wonderfulmonkeyman2958d ago

I'd take a remastered port of Smash 4 that combines all of the stages, trophies, and modes of both the Wii U and 3DS versions in a heart-beat.

Smash run in HD is worth double-dipping for.
ESPECIALLY during times when my internet isn't quite working up to snuff or I feel like Smashing but don't want to deal with online people.

This sounds like nice news.

Now if only Nintendo had a way of making Non-Nintendo gamers want to pick up multiplats on the NX instead of always ignoring Nintendo when thinking of multiplats, that'd be perfect.

But since that's never gonna happen, I'm hoping we see a crap ton more exclusives from them this time, to complement Nintendo's first party stuff and make people actually want the system.

This also pretty much confirms that the new Zelda game will be on NX. Those on the fence about getting the Wii U, should just wait for the newer console ;)

Seems reasonable, they did it on the wii, and they've done it again on the WiiU, so it makes sense that Nintendo would port some of its bigger games.

Nintendo Is A Bad Company, But We Can't Help Loving Them Anyway

TG: “Most of us also grew up with Nintendo, likely forming a nostalgic connection with games that have long been crowned as our personal favourites. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was an experience that shaped my view on open world fantasy, and Super Mario 64 changed my life like it did for millions of others. These titles have earned their place in history, and remain loved to this day for so many worthwhile reasons. We replay them and beg for remasters all while delving into their worlds time and time again because they mean that much to us. It’s a shame then that the company behind them often kicks its own sweet darlings to the curb.”

I never got the love for Nintendo games personally. The annoying vocalizations and ugly character designs do nothing for me.

Another very weird article.

Nintendo is a great company by almost all possible normal measures. The biggest one being: their own staff is happy, and they seem to be very happy, well compensated and retain rate is solid. They are also financially very stable, profitable, and cash rich, so shareholders love them.

Overall it is an extremely creative group of people, and their mission statement is fantastic as well "to put smiles on the faces of everyone we touch. We do so by creating new surprises for people across the world to enjoy together." The social impact is also massive, not to speak culturally. Additionally, they have a really strong core business, high customer retention rate and loyalty. Nintendo's reputation is extremely good, I think in the US alone they are 9th most reputable company, their customer service is better than the average company. Plus, the press gives them a pass, because they are Nintendo. But there's a reason why they do that, it's not "because they are Nintendo", there are more layers to the argument.

Then, then there's the random negative gamers online...and their "reputation" which is inside their heads. And their western ideas of how a Japanese company should behave or what they should do. But they have no right to ask a company to do anything for them, because they can vote with their wallets.

There's a small vocal community online who dislikes Nintendo for what they are, but then again, there's always a small vocal community that dislikes something.

Nintendo also disagrees with the Western world about IP, but most people call Westerners "hidoi!" when they emulate Tears of the Kingdom and do not experience it the way Nintendo wanted them (even if it is not the best visual way), because it is a matter of principle to them (Japanese are very much against anything close to plagiarism, and there are laws that are tight about creative works copying etc.)

The Western Braveheart "freedoom!" shouters need to understand that it is not an American company, nor they need to behave like one. They can have their own fights based on their principles (against emulation). And they very well may lose the battle with that and change, or find a new audience.

In the end, it is so very simple. Don't buy the products if you don't like a company, but there's no need to paint a picture that is unrealistic about Nintendo either.

I hate virtually everything about their business practices, actually. Suing everybody for virtually anything, shooting down fan projects, games they never let devalue, their online infrastructure and how they handle BC.

They're lucky they make great games, because that's the only thing I feel they do right.

gold_drake355d ago

my issue with them, is the complete refusal to have decent tech for us.

and their odd censorship and lawsuits for modders.
