GOW4 and Deep Down Maybe on PS4K?

Much has been talked about when it comes to the PS4K, tons of rumors and other such content coming out across the web. So over on Neogaf it would seem that this is becoming more reality than just rumor.

According to OsirisBlack, a user on Neogaf a meeting took place where PS4K and PSVR were discussed heavily. The post below which is taken from the Neogaf thread gives us an insight into a few things for the future.

Yes, and my totally legit source says that after the PS4K release this year, that next year we'll get a PS4/8K with full on holodeck VR.

But more on topic. Assuming the rumors are true, and that a PS4K is an actual thing for games, I still can't see Sony releasing a version of GOW4 for it to showcase it's potential.

Given that GOW has always been a graphical benchmark on the PS systems, it's hard to imagine that the non-4K version would be so much worse to really make people feel they needed it. So in that vein, it seems rather superfluous to show the difference between the two....particularly given the art style and lighting/shaders/filters in the game which don't show the lines of objects in such a way to see that much of a distinction in the higher resolutions. I'd liken it to the difference between GOW3 and GOW3:Remaster, where people had to look really hard to see a difference.

As far as Deep Down...I didn't even know that game still existed. However, I can't see Capcom spending the time to make it happen for what would be a small minority of people to take advantage of. Assuming of course, Sony isn't doing that part for them.

Since this is only a rumor and speculation I'll take it with a grain of salt. I'm surprise that Deep Down is still in development if true :)

I'm still in the camp that thinks Deep Down is probably never actually coming out, at least in the form we've seen it as. If Deep Down ever does actually see the light of day, it's probably going to be drastically different from what we've seen a few years ago.

Yeah, last year Capcom said it would be very different the next time we see it compared to what they have shown so far.

I'm a bit happy about that, because the combat looked really cumbersome. I just hope they don't downgrade their fire effects and such.

I don't think it's all that surprising to be honest. 4K Blu and players have been released and SONY always wants the latest format in their console. It makes sense to release it this year - its probably been in the works for a few years. The same regarding GOW4. I think it's a logical step to keep consoles relevant with the surrounding entertainment eco system - don't be surprised to see Microsoft pull the same stunt in the near future.

It is a possibility that we will see a 4k capable console
but like the PS3 was a "1080p capable machine" we will only see 4k games for some small titles.

Haha try playing witcher 3 4k on your pc at 30+fps for a computer with that price. The GPU alone would make that 500-600$ price.

I wouldn't play Witcher 3 at 4k on a PC that price. That's not what I claimed at all. I said console manufacturors could probably sell a console capable of 4k gaming for around $600.

For reference, I am playing Garden Warfare 2 right now at 4K, highest settings (besides AA), on a single R9-290. That's 3 year old hardware, and a modern game. You really think it'd cost $1500 to offer something equivalent to that?

So it would be a PSsometimes4k? If you name your product 4k and only half the games run in 4k, you should rethink that idea.

I'd be very surprised if we get consoles that play every game in native 4k. I don't think anyone is even speculating that to be the case.

It will probably upscale to 4k I doubt it will be native 4k. Do you know how large the console would have to be and how much power would be required.

It's never been said that the console would play games natively in 4k, simply that the games could be upscaled to that point. Do a little research.

Hypothetically if it does exist, I was getting worried by the title that they were going to be ps4k exclusive games. Glad that's not the case.

That's what I thought the article title was getting at but that wasn't the case. Launching ps4k exclusive games would literally be shooting themselves in the foot.

Agreed but that sounds very unlikely. They are also seeking to make money from software sales so how could they make a game exclusive to a platform that basically will have no sales?

It's sounding more likely but the PlayStation 4.5 is very likely compatible with all PlayStation 4 games and that running it on the platform they could have updates that make the games look better but I don't believe they're going to have games specifically exclusive to- 4.5 is that seems really unlikely and just not practical for trying to get lots of software sales.

I really can't wait to this rumour gets debunked and forgotten about.

Releasing a PS4k would be a huge balls up and shoot all the good work they've done with the PS4 in the foot. Best case, they update the HDMI port to support 4K movies. There won't be any 'hardware' upgrades.

Would need a new laser as well. The current laser doesn't support more than a dual layer disc, but the new 4K standard requires three layers. Might need a new codec chip as well.

All in all, making all PS4's going forward with a new laser, new USB, and possibly a new codec is probably only around $10-20 more on the manufacturing side of things....if that. So it's possible a new version wouldn't be much more expensive than the current console, and likely will just be the new console going forward once all the old SKU's sell out.

I don't get what everyone's issue is with PS4K. It will have 4K bluray support, it will probably have more GPU power for VR especially.. But in the end, all of the studios will still be designing for PS4, and if you have a PS4K, you may get a bump up in graphics quality. It's not like they are gonna stop making games for PS4.
