Quantum Break Isn’t Xbox One’s The Last of Us, it’s Infamous

Quantum Break does a lot of things well and it's been compared to some great games. But not all comparisons are apt.

I've seen those similarities since they first started showing gameplay but so many people were unwilling to really see them for whatever reason. It's obvious that Remedy was always gonna do their own thing, but they seemed to have taken a lot of inspiration from Infamous, everything from the powers themselves, to the junction points, all the way to the manner that the characters were animated...that's just from the couple hours of footage I've seen so I don't know if it goes any deeper & it definitely stands on it's own two legs, but Infamous is one of the best super powered game series on the scene so it's a quality inspiration for something like QB that also deals w/ powers. Definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the game one day soon

Saying its on the same level as Infamous is very respectable in my opinion. I think the entire Infamous franchise is extremely underrated. The advantage Quantum Break has is Microsoft only pushes a couple first party games each year, so it will benefit from being a medium sized fish in a small pond. Where as a lot of 1st and 2nd party Sony games get lost in the big pond.

Games like Fat Princess, Little Big Planet and Modnation Racers would of done very well on PC and probably still be alive, but kinda get lost in the console market, especially on Sony's console, as their game marketing is horrid.

Quantum Break is Xbox Quantum Break is how it should really be. I wouldn't compare it to Infamous even if they're similar in some ways. MS needs its own game to stand alone and this seems to be it. So I half way agree with the title.

Sounds like fans are more willing to take the TLOU comparison because that game was so highly acclaimed, and unwilling to see the similarities to Infamous because that game doesn't have the same universal appeal even though it has a very large fanbase that loves the series. Second Son has been my favorite exclusive so far this gen hands down. The only shortcomings it had was it's actual shorter run time in comparison to the previous games. Still amazingly fun to play & easily the only open world that I've played this gen that actually made me want to complete all side missions & 100% the game. An Infamous comparison should be a badge of honor, not a scarlet letter.

TLOU was very unique and special. QB does a damn good job though. Honestly, I think it suffers b/c it's story is so good. It's easier to point out flaws in the gameplay, especially when you are being compared to TLOU and U4.

All in all Remedy is a great Dev.

It's used as shorthand to get people in the groove of what it'll feel like for them. Like how you'd tell someone interested in new music that your suggestion is like a band they're interested in.

I finished both games and I haven't thought once of Infamous while playing QB. Yeah, I can see the similarities somehow, but the games are pretty different in my opinion.

I think Infamous was a better game overall, the amount of powers made the gameplay richer and I loved the fact it takes place in Seattle. However, Quantum Break it's a good hybrid, with the mix of shooting and superpowers, it makes it pretty unique. I just wish there was more variety with the powers and the weapons. I think they really focused too much on the story.

My thoughts exactly, I honestly barely even feel the connection for the combat. The polarity shield kept me from constantly moving to cover in infamous 1-2 and by second son and first light you can run circles around the dup no need for cover. Someone said this was singularity in third person I'm more in line to agree with that.

Quantum Break is Quantum Break.

After playing about 6 hours this is nothing like infamous nor The Last of Us. Only fanboys want to slot it into something like a PS game. But there is no PS game even close to it. Just like there is no XB game close to The Last of Us. And the only game similar to infamous is Prototype.

If it must be compared to another game it should be Alan Wake.

I think Infamous has got far more in common with Sunset Overdrive than it has with Quantum Break.

Infamous and Sunset Overdrive can basically both draw part of their heritage as games that involve quick movement on every plane - horizontal and vertical - from Jet Set Radio (whether all the designers on those games regard that as an influence or not- Sunset certainly does). There's a bit of 'the floor is lava' to those games too (not in Jet Set Radio Future though). Infamous clearly has darker influences to it too - the protagonists are not squeaky clean.

Quantum Break doesn't often use verticality as a combat move. QB is what I would call a purer concept than Infamous as QB has shooting, platforming, TV show and they are all distinct elements from each other combined together at set times. Infamous is more of a free for all gameplay wise, hooked together with story which could easily be interchangeable, so part of its lineage comes from series such as GTA. There's little GTA about Quantum Break - every aspect of Quantum Break is considered- it's not a broad sweep.

I rate Quantum Break very highly for what it sets out to do. I don't rate Infamous as being in the same league, no matter how fun some may find it (perhaps some like being superhero like all the time or like the gritty themes). Sunset Overdrive , on the other hand, has such a distinct style that it raises it above Infamous for me.

Totally! The character builder alone is awesome! I'd love me an xbone, if only for the exclusives and the odd "better fps and 1080p on xbone" games... but at least I have one friend who plays xbone. I like that. He's a good friend of mine, and we both get to play all the good exclusives (I have ps4 and Wiiu) MAN, gamin' is the shiat! :-D

Infamous is a good game especially with a metacritic of 80. Even though its .2 points higher than Quantum Break I consider both to be the same in terms of quality.

You really can't go wrong with either title since they are very fun games to play.

QB doesn't remind me of infamous at all, other than the fact that they each use extraordinary powers, but that could be said the same of a lot of movies and comic books. Very different than both of those games. Not sure why we are trying to draw a line of connection.

Seriously the most iconic thing about infamous is its powers(multiple in sequels) and OPEN WORLD gameplay, this is a corridor shooter with time powers. What really bothers me is no one is talking about how short the game is minus the episodes this is the order all over again but worse and instead of everyone slamming it we get a 50/50 split.

The Order 1886 was just cinematic, explore, cinematic, shoot and repeat. Quantum Break has platforming sections using time powers, far larger spaces, huge set pieces in a few areas, TV show, on top of that. The Order's just like a slow version of an arcade game by comparison.

Infamous was maybe my favorite new IP last gen. Quantum Break isn't on my radar as a buy until it gets about $35, same reasons as the Order.
