What Does "PS4K" Have To Do To Lure Current PS4 Owners?

What will it take for Sony to convince current PlayStation 4 owners to shell out for an "upgraded" system? How much better will it really have to be?

Its probably just a model with the PSVR box built into it and the new standard of 4k output for video. It cannot be a 4k GPU machine for 399 bucks.

They can't, cuz PS5's hardware innards is going to be based on AMD's next-gen APU code named ZEN "Raven ridge(SMT)" cores and it's GPU will most likely be a finFET VEGA 10 or hopefully NAVI GPU with HBM2 memory. Vega 10 GPU is said to be a 16/14nm version of a R9 Fury X (Fiji) w 4096 shader cores. Ps4 only has 1152 shader cores.

We don't know the specs of these rumors because that is all they are, rumors. What we do know, is that we are at if not past the half way for this Generation, so it would be completely pointless and only damaging to them if they release a more powerful version of a console that was released 3 years ago.

we all know that consoles are outdated faster than your parents slang, so i don't understand why all of a sudden these systems don't have enough power. through optimization things will become better looking, better playing and all the jazz, just as it has in the past. I just spent 800$ with exchange and shipping for a PSVR, i don't like the idea of Sony now releasing a newer console that is supposed to make games look better when they should be focusing on PS4 and PSVR and PSVita.

They let us know about a year or so before when they were going to be Releasing PSVR. Apparently this fake PS4.5 is releasing in October as well, but based on previous business models that they used based on the marketing and sales of PS4, if they announce it at this years E3, it'll maybe be for next year, most likely the year after. it'll be too much stuff in the market. not to mention some gamers who only recently bought a ps4 will feel really ripped off if a newere better model is released the same year.

if a new model is released this year. it'll be a slim model, nothing else.

i realize 4k gaming is too expensive for consoles at present, but if it could hit 1080p/60 consistently and do 4k media streaming (netflix, hulu, etc) then i'll get it - especially for the vr horsepower.

a gtx 980 $500 gpu has a hard time doing all games in 4k. we will see if a rabbit is pulled out of a hat for much less.

For me to invest as a day one buyer they need some good trade in offer. The new console has to have more power, not just support VR.

Support external HDD's but I assume that would be via software, more USB ports on the back

I just don't see this as a good move by Sony. The massive sales they have had feels like a kick in the teeth.

Perhaps VR should of been left for another year or two for a new console.

If a new console is required for say £300 and VR for £350, then a game or two = £750. I might as well buy Vive or Oculus Rift.
