Oculus Rift review - Gamespot

$600 is a lot to pay for a piece of gaming hardware. But Rift is different from a console or a new graphics card. Rift allows you to experience games in ways that we've only dreamed of up until now, and while it requires you to make a few compromises in the name of immersion, it's worth it. Yes, you will look silly to anyone who watches you use it, and you will potentially feel uneasy after an intense VR session, but these issues can't take away from the fact that Rift delivers on its promise to enable more immersive and personal gaming experiences than we've ever seen before.

yup VR may seem like a gimmick to some but I feel they are probably the people that haven't tried it. there is nothing close to the experience you have in VR on anything but other VR .......its the most immersion gaming you can do and it's amazing.

starchild2975d ago

Totally agree. I think most of those people will change their opinion once they try it for themselves.

Bathyj2975d ago

Like Ive said before, when you have a good pair of Headphones on, all other noise drains away. The sound is in your head not something you just hear coming from a box over in the corner. Its like your ears have been bypassed and the sound is just in your brain.

Now imaging that immersion when applied to your ears AND you eyes. You will only hear and only see what is in the game. The real world will melt away and you will forget it is there.

SOLD! Hehehe

You my friend have some marketing chops!

I hope VR sticks this time around and doesn't go they way of 3DTV, cause I prepared to break the bank later this year!

Bathyj2975d ago

Well people have been waiting for VR for decades. It's tried and failed before but never have so many players put so much effort and money into it. I mean for Facebook to buy Occulus for 2 billion means they obviously think this is going to change everything. It's just time. The tech is right, the prices are good, and there's something for everyone. All the bases are covered. There's no reason not to get into it. I can't wait.

Tsunade2975d ago

VR is so amazing. Can't wait til October to get my VR experience.

SteamPowered2975d ago

Unfortunately I probably won't see mine until July, but this gives them time to work on the Oculus store and SteamVR will have matured a bit as well. So many things to look forward to!
And $600 doesn't seem like much money for a peripheral when compared to a monitor.

Tsunade2975d ago

You already had a beefy PC? Also, I believe you will have to buy the motion controllers too when they release. I believe the final price is more than $600.

SteamPowered2975d ago

Yes I have a beefy PC. The same PC needed to push 1440/4K on a $600 monitor anyways.
Motion controls will get old to me. I've played the DK2 aplenty with just the 360 controller. In fact the virtual desktop will be the app I use the most, so no waggle sticks required.

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7375d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt375d ago (Edited 375d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal375d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow375d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal375d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt375d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.

Although I never owned an oculus, I played the demo for this at an electronics store. Pretty impressive in an early goings of VR title.
