Oculus Rift review - Eurogamer

From a hardware perspective, Oculus Rift delivers. As a spectacles wearer with less than stellar experiences using the Crescent Bay prototype, Eurogamer was concerned that Oculus may have lost pace compared to the more comfortable HTC Vive and PlayStation VR, but the final hardware delivers. Image quality is up there with the best, latency in motion response is a non-issue (a rapid shake of the head during gameplay confirms this - the image remains perceptually rock solid) and the integrated headphones are way, way better than Eurogamer thought they would be. The headset is well-designed, build quality is good and the immersive experience overall is breathtaking.

reading stuff like this makes me feel happy I preordered one.

As long as you know after the wow factor and 2 hours of sore neck muscles, eye fatigue and a twinge of nausea you will need a break.

Neonridr2976d ago

lol, like anything it will take time for your body to adjust and get used to it.

I fully expect to puke the first time I use it, lol

BABY-JEDI2976d ago

Reading your reply gave me eye fatigue LoL 😎

GameBoyColor2976d ago

Never skip neck day, problem solved.

I like how someone that used them and had nausea think everyone goes through this. I have the DK2 and I have never experienced any of the effects. None of the games I played ever caused me to get nausea.

Hopefully, PSVR will get a lot of positive reviews also 😀

Eonjay2976d ago

I'm sure it will. As with the Rift, expect impressions to be mixed... and thats what you really want as a consumer. If you can get a full spectrum of reviews, it makes it easier to take all aspects into account.

BABY-JEDI2976d ago

That's a fair point & I didn't get eye strain 😉

And their best game is what...Lucky's Tale? What am I...12? No thanks Oculus. For me, getting my Oculus wasn't about the shitty cartoonish games. It was about the Cinema/Movie experience. But with no SDK - they're gonna find it very hard to keep up with HTC Vive

kraenk122976d ago

Shitty cartoonish games...did you have a look at EVE Valkyrie?! I always wonder...people only wanting this for watching lower res 2D movies must be pretty lonely.

Neonridr2976d ago (Edited 2976d ago )

so why do you care what games are available if you only want it for the Cinema/Movie experience? Why would you want to sit there and watch a movie with a headset when you can just watch it on your big screen TV instead?

Seems like a pricey investment just to get a virtual movie theatre experience..

lunatic00012976d ago

You don't have to be just twelve to enjoy great games even if they are cartoonish...but you are too single minded to comprehend so why bother arguing

N4GDgAPc2976d ago

And also being stupid. If he looked up list of games he would see there are 29 other games at lunch. But he reads one thing and starts talking out crap.

Lord_of_Cinder2976d ago

Congratulations to Oculus! I hope early adopters have a blast with it. Can't wait for October to get my VR experience.

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7375d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt375d ago (Edited 375d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal375d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow375d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal375d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt375d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.

Although I never owned an oculus, I played the demo for this at an electronics store. Pretty impressive in an early goings of VR title.
