YouTube’s ‘club4ghz’ has released two videos, showcasing the performance difference between CRYENGINE V and CRYENGINE 3, as well as the performance difference between CRYENGINE V’s DX11 and DX12 modes.
Digital Foundry : Welcome to a brand new Tech Focus! In this video, delivered with early access to DF Supporter Program backers, Alex goes into depth of Global Illumination - or GI. What is it, how does it work, what are the implementations with rasterisation and ray tracing?
DF has been getting less and less of my clicks lately. They don’t seem to have a genuine focus. The goalpost that get moved on what is a good experience has grown alarming. And I don’t really blame them fully but their legacy of trying to pick clear cut winners is what’s created this fault.
I have a hard time taking their perception of good tech as just THEIR view.
DSOGaming writes: "Earlier this week, we reported on a Far Cry total conversion mod for Crysis, Far Cry Reloaded. Now I know that some were disappointed with that fan remake as – and even though it’s a fan WIP project – it did not look particularly impressive. However, another Fan Cry remake project that aims to bring Crytek’s classic shooter in CryEngine 5 is currently in progress, and it already looks better than the original version."
My favourite Far Cry by far, no pun intended.
For its time it had fantastic human AI, it introduced semi-open world originality in the way you could approach situations in a variety of ways, along with novel emergent gameplay the series became known for AND added incredibly atmospheric Doom 3-like areas with the Tri-gens.
On top of that was a brilliant difficulty setting that used checkpoints to increase the tension, cutting edge graphics and a great set of weapons that required you to think carefully based on what enemies you anticipated were up ahead. It also had a good sense of humour with the sound detecting binoculars allowing you to listen to mercenaries talking all sorts of stupidity, some of which poked fun at FPS tropes.
Some of the bits where you approached an underground complex were truly scary because you knew close spaces and the mutants were waiting (time to scavenge a shotgun), then you'd be back out into the jungle with typical Far Cry human combat and near the end it mixed it up. Using the binocs to scan a jungle at night and hearing mutant growls was really unsettling.
Just one of my best FPS experiences ever, I wish the dev team all the best.
I remember the days when, at work, we would disconnect from the office network to play this multiplayer.... It was awesome
Well no duh it's going to look better than the original if it's remade 10 years later on a much more advanced engine
PS. That muzzle flash looks awful. It looks like its coming out of the middle of the barrel .
Considering Far Cry 1 came out in 2004 along with the Original CryEngine it would be shocking if it didn't look better.
I don't see much improvement tbh, if any.
FC1 is my fav too, that jumping to your face - taking half your hp mutant was scary af.
DSOGaming writes: "CRYENGINE Lighting Artist, Lindemann Matthias, has released some screenshots from his latest Metro Exodus remake project in CRYENGINE V. Now while this is a fan project, it uses the exact same assets that were used in Metro Exodus, thus making it a pretty faithful "remake" to the original material."
i mean man. It seems to be dusk maybe or just a gloomy day you get where its cloudy a bit sunny and raining. That said even then. Its too dark for that time of day. Ive never seen the sky that bright with the ground so dark
CE5 has a higher framerate but CE3 looks better at times...
I guess this is because CE5 is just supposed to be a Cryengine for VR and not much more
CE3 looks much better, more defenition and more vibrant colors.
