Editorial: Is Nintendo NX Partially To Blame For PS4K?

Is it possible that the threat of the Nintendo NX - a machine supposedly more powerful than the current PS4 - had a hand in Sony's decision?

None of these 'journalist' use common sense. Look the cost of a 4K capable PC and then look at the ideal prices for a console. A 4K PC is several times the price of a console.

Uhd blu ray player and hdmi 2.0 will be added. It would require a gtx 980 ti equivelant for 4k at a minimum. Not happening in a console. Not sure why everyone is assuming sony will release a 4k capable console. If they did it would cost 1000usd minimum.

People need to focus on what is happening this year. The uhd blu ray is the next big home entertainment release, so its obvious sony will add this to the ps4 ( surely it is the obvious choice).

Even if NX tops PS4 on specs, it is not a threat to the PS4 until Nintendo changes its business strategy and start bringing the third party games the other platforms get

I have a funny feeling that is what they are going to do this time around I have a feeling Nintendo is going to grow up and get with the times. I have high hopes for the NX I think it will be the Ultimate console as long as they get the support.

More choices the merrier of course when it comes to games but you'd be surprised if it was physically possible for Nintendo to make 1082p console a fair few people would buy it purely as its the most technical console people like to be or have the best of the best however as much as I want Nintendo to try and at least be on par with Xbox one if not PS4 as long as it's a step up from Wii U and not a step back I'm not too worried as time and time again Nintendo have shown a game can be timeless without the best of the best graphics but it would be nice to see Nintendo go all out on the tech front for a change as they have the games quality on lock down they very rarely fail to deliver on the big franchises. Graphics aren't the be all end of on a Nintendo system tho however I hope they go for it this time, but yeah graphics are just one area of about 5 key areas that need to be covered get them covered and the people will come.

1 graphics, 2 Tech specs/features 3 games, 4 robust online and faster VC releases its not like the games are being remade at all there all done just need to magic port to 3ds/Wii U think it's time they got a dedicated VC team or got them a few more colleagues. 5 Quality of the product I'm not talking is it technically the best in talking is it cheap looking and feels like crap to play and made of the cheapest of cheapest materials, Nintendo don't normally give us a dogs dinner we get some odd/funky controllers over the years and consoles that have handles like a handbag (hi there Gamecube) but the products itself doesn't break and is very very reliable... We all know when (hopefully not any time soon) if the world ends) the only thing to survive will be Cockroahes and the Original Gameboys. Maybe a few NES/SNES... Those consoles are all built to last years and years.

I said 5 but 6 is quite important make it first and foremost fun to play and as long as you can have a good time for hours on end not just throwaway party games and junk then they'll be on to a winner.

NX has only one confirmation, and that's the fact it exists. We know nothing about it. Nothing. So the rumours that are circulating around about an upgraded ps4 is just clickbait material. One does not relate to the other. "Journalists" can't seem to wait for facts anymore and instead turn small whispers into a big ordeal.

If there's going to be an upgraded ps4, think more along the lines of a "slim" version. It'll play the same games but will probably have something like added storage or 4k support for movies. Sony isn't stupid and breaking up their consumer base into sections won't do them good. Furthermore, think about how much added work it would be for developers.

So jumping back to this ridiculous article. No, NX isn't partially to blame for something that isn't even confirmed to exist.

Articles don't even get the facts right these days and then are telling us this and that oh you should do this don't do that but you don't even know what your on about as you've got the dates wrong or all the information is incorrect. Saw a review for the Kanye album the other day but they are reviewing the album and saying oh this track at the end is unwelcome called Dare? There isn't a track called Dare on the entire album the song they were on is Fade which begs the question how can I trust a review when the reviewer (from a music magazine that's been running for 40/50 years) doesn't even know the names of the tracks he's been listening to? It's all about the headlines and the shock bullet points/captions under photos. This person seen with Crack cocaine massive headline.... On a park bench 300 yards behind them that they've been no where near all day. Lazy and sloppy journalism but yeah not just gaming across the board.

Yes, but obviously Sony would panic, and in the course of a year design, manufacture, reveal, distribute, and get developers on board for a 4K console that will undermine NX. Obviously Sony knows there would be absolutely no backlash to the premise of an mid-gen upgraded console, and can completely take the wind out of Nintendo's sails by showing off what basically amounts to a PS4 with prettier graphics.

That'll show Nintendo, who really hasn't had the good will of the gamer nor the hype to make anyone have to panic as of yet.

Few key examples of gameplay winning over graphics... Mario 1 on the NES I personally love it's style but come on it's hardly a looker.. Especially when compared to Mario Bros 3 released a few years later on the same system.
Tetris. Simple and sweet. Does the job and people still play the original now... Probably why it sold a fair few million over the years as well... Original Pokemon wasn't exactly a beauty to behold (looked pretty much like all the other gameboy games- excluding the Mon themselves) that went on to do pretty well. Resident Evil 1 was a bit of a blurry mess I mean you could make out it was a house and you were attempting to take some control of a person and fight off zombies but yeah no peach in the looks departments.

Sure all of these games at the time were fantastic and I personally love all their styles as its where they started you have to start somewhere and things progress over the years some faster than others however if the games are fun tho I'm all over it I can see past how something looks.
Nidhogg is another example I've got it just not got round to playing it but it's no God of war/uncharted in the looks department, still meant to be a fantastic game tho.

I own all Nintendo consoles just before I get a lot of disagrees by saying Nintendo are to blame I've always got love for Nintendo hence why I've slowed all their home consoles admittedly I was young when NES came out but a second one of them (Mario/duck hunt) same with SNES (second hand, not with duck hunt of course) N64 couldn't afford it day one so go the good controller version a few months later once they'd knocked £50 off, ever since GameCube tho Wii, Wii U, 3DS all day ones for me as its not the same old same old ever sure you get your Mario's Zelda's but it's never the same game copy and pasted.

It was nothing more than a little joke I'm always reading hate for Nintnedo and now they are to blame for rumours of a new Sony console which is looking likely to be true but Nintendo haven't even announced anything yet other than yes it's happening and now they are to blame for Sony doing what they want... I can't blame Sony for wanting to stay the most powerful console. That's one of the reputations it has now. To lose that to a new system, the NX, would take that away. I'm all for a more powerful system and will support it...both MS and Sony.

There's those 3 guys from Eurogamer as well. Apparently they all can verify something using various unnamed sources, because the industry is a sieve when it comes to developers willing to leak confidential information....particularly when it comes to a new console release. SMDH.

If either of these sites is to be believe, there are now 9 independent developers out there who deserve to be fired for breaching NDA....all within the span of a week. Have to admit, never thought Kotaku and EG would have so much respect around the dev community to be able to get people to talk so readily...because I sure as hell have never seen it...at least not with Kotaku. EG is a bit better I suppose.

When...in the entire history of gaming has there ever been that many people who've come forward at once, even if they remained anonymous.

Personally, I think the few websites that go further to say that they independently verified as opposed to just reporting that there is a rumor, are just calling each other to ask if they can verify it for the other.

It's like two high school girls talking. The first says that some girl did something bad. 2nd girl reports it to a third person. 3rd girl calls the first and says, "can you verify that this is true". 1st girl verifies, because she's the one that said it first.

And yes, I did just compare modern day gaming journalism to the pecking of teenage gossip mongering girls.

Phil Spencer at the windows event makes a comment on releasing a system with incremental upgrades. Then a ahortly afterwards some mysterious insiders desire to leak information on an upgraded PS4 model.

Doesn't anyone find this a bit suspicious?
