Don't panic: There's a version of the PlayStation 4 VR headset that has everything you need

In an interview with PlayStation's worldwide head of studios Shuhei Yoshida, he told Tech Insider that there will be a bundle in North America that comes with a PlayStation Camera and a PlayStation Move motion controller.

It is, but anybody who's eyeing this up now ought to buy the camera and Move controllers up front. They'll save money and it makes the final outlay less painful.

Really, this bundle works well for people who are new to PlayStation or who are picking it up in the holiday due to the inevitable media storm.

I gave my Move controllers to my nephews. Doh! When I heard PSVR would work with them I bought some more - they're so cheap right now - and I already had the camera!

The base PSVR comes with earbuds. It's an inexpensive pair and looks to use a standard audio jack. I have no idea how they compare to the built in headset on Rift.

How do you know whether or not HoloLens has built in speakers? The damn thing is nowhere near release & at this point it has the specs of a 2007 laptop computer...2 gbs of Ram & a 2 mp camera...packed in headphones are the least of its worries...either way, are you insinuating that someone who goes through to trouble of buying a PS4 & a VR headset wouldn't have some stupid little headphones floating around somewhere?

One better, the PSVR is the only VR solution that I know of that will output to your television for a spectator mode, so chances are you don't even need headphones, you can just output audio through your television.

You Xbox guys are really reaching mega hard for some criticism for PSVR. Pretty sure the next thing y'all will be "concerned" about is whether or not the electricity comes for free or gamers would have to pay a monthly fee for it.

Remember when the PS Camera was like $99 when it was in short stock? Sony will likely wait a bit so that PS Camera sales surge, soak up the profits, THEN release the all-in-one PSVR bundle.

Makes sense to bundle, just concerned with the overall cost and its graphical presentation. From what I've read/heard the contents are a bit of a graphic downgrade compared to ps4 games currently out. Still plan to buy psvr but I'll wait till the holidays to see how people review the psvr

Yup. I already got my PS4 camera ready and the best part about it all is that I didn't pay a dime for it.. Actually, got it for free since it came with my PS4 GTA/TLOU bundle so I'm good as well. Did they confirm that SW VR for PSVR? I had just seen the leaked trailer that featured the Vive controller...honestly companies would have to be insane to release VR exclusive to those PC rigs when it comes to those kinda of things...fairly obvious that PSVR will be hands down the highest selling VR solution, so if they aren't on it, they are spending money for a much smaller niche market.

We already saw what happened in terms of Blu Ray, the PS3 was the cheapest & most quality BD player on the market for years, I expect the same results here...anyone of the masses interested in VR would turn towards Sony's solution.

yeah, you need to be able to track rotation and position. If you look at a phone, they just track rotation/tilt at the moment. This is fine if you don't want to move your head around.

I thought the headset has a gryoscope and accelerometer.. head tracking should only be needed for some games right? I mean you control your character in some games through in-game controls, so why would they need to track your head, rotation should be handled by the headset.

The camera is only needed for spatial recognition and correction...the other sensors are for 'movement'...the accelerometer detects movement, the gyroscope in which direction, the camera detects 'how much'...I have no idea how the PSVR works or what it has yet, but that is how its described with regards to the OR.

you're right that it isn't necessary in some situations depending on how the particular game is developed control wise...but all i've heard about it is that a lot of people inadvertently dodge and move their head around depending on in game actions...and without the camera, that stuff gets pretty wonky...

There will definately be games that just use the DualShock. That why they have a light on them. There will also be games made just for Move controllers too. It's up to the devs to decide what works best for the game they are making.

All ps4 games will require the DS4 in Cinematic Mode on top of most if not all VR specific games so no worries on that front.

But 38 Million people have a PS4 already. Even if only 5% of users invest in PS-VR that's still 2 million people. I guarantee the PS4 userbase will be over 40 million by October. The holidays should push PS4 to the 50 million mark and PS-VR will reap the appeal come black Friday and Christmas. 5 million by March 2017 I'm predicting.

Considering the fact that there are more than 40+ million PS4 units sold.. I'd say it's pretty there in the mainstream market as the cost of entry at most would be USD 500 (PSVR+Camera+Move controllers).

For instance, I already have a PS4 and the camera. My cost of entry for the PSVR experience is only about USD 440 for the VR headset and 2 move controllers.

@badz149- well think about it this way. You've got a pc and a ps4. You can buy an oculus for 600 or a psvr for 400. If you bought the psvr you will also need to buy the camara, and it's not an option, you need that. That's another 60$ plus another 60 for the move controller that I'm sure at least half the games will require. That s $520, which is about 30% more than the advertized price. I'm sure some games will support the ps4 controller, but I imagine plenty will use one or even 2 move controllers.

I recall them saying it sold quite well early on. It's a rather inexpensive peripheral, and with the streaming stuff I can see why a lot of people would have gotten it since then as well.

Move controllers can be gotten on the cheap right now on Amazon, so probably worth getting them early if one is intersted in PSVR.

It depends on the game doesn't it? The Dualshock at best is a single light/hand. What if a game requires tracking of both hands? I guess technically you don't need the Move controller unless you want to play the game.

I played London Heist and Kitchen at PSX with a DS4 controller. But I agree it will depend on the game. Games like Ace Combat, Grand Turismo, and Horror games want need the move controller or it might just be a second option for the gamer.. The Oculus won't even need controller's like the move

Wait, I just read in the contents that this thing uses ear buds? Good God, the Sony ear buds that came with PS4 had to be the most uncomfortable set of speakers I ever tried to keep in my ears. Or should I say, my ear.

The article seems a bit negative. Calling Sony's reasoning "(somewhat) reasonable" is kind of ignorant because what Sony says does make a ton of sense. I would feel very stupid and a bit annoyed if I already owned a PS Camera and had to buy another one. So it's just logical that Sony releases the PS VR without it. Also it also makes sense for them to only announce the price for the standalone PS VR as it is the lowest. That will be the price in all the headlines, that will be the orice people talk about, so of course they go with that and having a good reasoning behind it doesn't make them look like they are cheating imho.

Also the release of PS VR is still a few months away, this was just the first big announcement leading into the pre-order phase and the final phase before release. Sony still has enough time to announce all we want and need to know and it gives us, the consumers, enough time to decide whether we buy a PS VR or not. I know it's easy to pick on them and to criticizue them for not announcing all we want to know, but it's not like PS VR releases tomorrow and you are forced to buy it now. Just chill and keep an eye on future announcements.

While this would be ideal for the consumers I don't think it is ideal for the product as you want to advertise the lowest price you can because that is what people are going to be talking about.

Announce ONE price to not confuse the non-gaming people and only that price will be in people's heads and that's the price everybody will use to compare it to other VR headsets. More prices and bundles equals more confusion so I support them in announcing them bit by bit because, as I said, ther is still enough time between the annoucement and the release.

However I'm also waiting on the bundle to go up (if it will be avaiable at my location) and just pre-order the PSVR standalone as a security for now (in case there is no bundle or I don't get one). But I respect why Sony is doing it like this.

Im hesitant to throw down $400 plus games... Thats going to add up im going to buy it but idk when, but i want it.. I need to see the launch titles.. Ill try and reserve it if i can to be safe though..

I bought the camera when it was $40 & the move equip when it was on clearance.. Just need the headset and games.. Ideally $300-$350 would've been an instant buy.. That extra $50 isnt too bad so maybe ill pay it off in installments.
