Using Cinematic Mode users can play PS4 games on the PSVR headset on a giant virtual screen with three different levels of zoom.

I want to use the big 200ft screen when I play Star Ocean!

psyduck2995d ago

Honestly, this will be amazing for so many things.

Games: Fallout 4, Rocket League, Rise of the Tomb Raider (should be almost out for PS4 by then!)

Netflix: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, House of Cards, etc.

AMAZING, I SAY.

I just had a baby heart attack!

No Man Sky! (pants got tight)

Tsar4ever012995d ago

Running ps4 games on cinematic mode is not the same as a pure vr-specific designed game. Your just streaming off your HDTV to your headset, it won't be the same, unfortunately, but it's still great that psvr has more other uses outside of vr-gaming.

Goldby2995d ago

you forgot Black Sails when it comes to Netflix

MurDocINC2995d ago

Bigger FOV but lower resolution than your tv.

Abash2995d ago

Sony better make PlayStation Vue also support PSVR!

bouzebbal2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

Hold on!!!! Now i can play PS4 and watch movies without a screen at all????
Now this is something i didn't expect

UltraNova2995d ago

PSVR turned out to be exactly as I predicted/wanted it be especially the Cinematic mode...imagine playing the Witcher or any open world game on a 200ft screen...

zeuanimals2995d ago

@Tsar:

And that excites me very much. I typically play and watch movies and shows on a 32" TV. With PSVR, I can play and watch things on a virtual theater screen. Not as good as a real private theater but it's MUCH MUCH cheaper.

All I need now is a popcorn machine. It'll be weird eating with the headset on but I believe in my ability to coordinate my hands without seeing them.

DAREDEVIL... Nuff said

kraenk122995d ago

It's huge news but somehow I'm scared of a world where everyone hides in these things every evening!

REDGUM2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

Ok, so we will be able to play ps4 games on our headsets but NOT in virtual reality right?

Here's my question, what's the quality going to be like?

Will it compare to my 58 inch plasma (soon to be LED) screen?
Will the quality be lower?
If so by how much?

I'm all for new things but at what cost (quality wise)?

Volkama2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

@Redgum that's the big question really. How good will a 200ft screen look rendered within the confines of a 1080p screen pressed up against your face?

I suspect the best flat viewing experience available in my home will still be my TV, but I'm definitely curious to try this.

ji32002995d ago

im a owner of Oculus dk2 and i watch movies with it. Virtual IMAX theater mode makes my 150 inch projector feel so tiny screen comapare to it. Im glad for PSVR that people can play any ps4 games with big IMAX movie theater screen.

darthv722995d ago

So... "Netflix and Chill" with a HMD over your eyes.

sounds so cozy.

UnHoly_One2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

I remember Microsoft showing Forza being played on Oculus on a big giant "virtual screen", and everyone made fun of it and said it was the stupidest use of a VR headset they'd ever seen.

Now Sony is doing the same thing and it's a great feature that everyone is excited about.

This place really confuses me.

This is the video of the demo I'm talking about, by the way: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

DDMNeo2995d ago

MurDocINC nailed it.
Remember folks, there's a set number of pixels on the device. The bigger the image is the more pixelated the image will be.

Also, the 19 people who disagree with his post are idiots for not understanding this concept.

MasterCornholio2995d ago

@Unholy

That's because for 600$ you can only stream games to Oculus with the XB1.

With PSVR at 200$ less not only can you play every single PS4 game in Imax mode but you can also play real VR games.

Microsofts answer to PSVR has no effort behind it. At least Sony is taking VR seriously with all the support that they will give it.

That's the difference.

UnHoly_One2995d ago

I understand that difference, but that was never the criticism that I saw.

I just saw people mocking it for the whole "virtual screen" concept.

Everyone said it was stupid. And I agree with them, it is silly because it will NOT look as good as playing it on a real TV.

Nintentional2994d ago

Can you use 2 VR headsets on one Sony machine? Or do I need a seperate PS4? I would want my wife to be able to watch Netflix with me in a virtual theatre, not just by myself.

I will lose my life to this thing.......

gangsta_red2995d ago

You're gaining a virtual life!

MasterCornholio2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

That's going to be so cool. I always wanted to game on an Imax size screen.

:)

Edit: By virtual screen do they mean a movie theatre type of thing? Similar to what Microsoft showed with Oculus on the XB1?

Volkama2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

Sounds like it. They mention "3 levels of zoom" so I would guess it is presented as a floating screen, rather than full theater or room. That might be the case for the One/Rift thing too, I dunno. Rendering a theatre would be a waste of resources to me anyway :)

rainslacker2995d ago

I hope it just allows for just the movie screen to be displayed. I don't need the feeling of being in a theater, I'd rather just have everything that can be distracting tuned out so I can focus on the screen itself. Options wouldn't be bad though.

fiveby92995d ago

This is great news. Looking forward to my PSVR.

DragonDDark2995d ago

I can't wait to play PT on this!

ShadowKnight2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

I can't wait to play that new Star Wars game on this

Summons752995d ago

0_0 I never though of that....oh nooooo!

Why o why2995d ago

I know what movies you're on about........

badz1492995d ago

So...no more Netflix & Chill?

badz1492994d ago

@Scark92

my god...what a time to be alive! LOL

gangsta_red2995d ago

So, why would you want to watch movies in VR instead of a big screen TV?

2pacalypsenow2995d ago

Well my Gaming TV is 65" and my Cinema room has a 100" screen but the bulbs are too expensive to game on the projector. So a 200" screen is better for me.

EdMcGlone2995d ago

lol this is gonna look redic but probably be great.

lxlkuyaboilxl2995d ago

Lol I can imagine binge watching Netflix shows and falling asleep with that thing on my face. It will definitely look ridiculous from the outside, but I can't wait to see how it all works.

WeAreLegion2995d ago

It works pretty well on Gear VR, already. I imagine it will look more crisp on the PSVR though.

DigitalRaptor2995d ago (Edited 2995d ago )

Yeah - Gear VR doesn't quite hit the spot for me for watching stuff.

PSVR, I would imagine, is going to have the best trade off. I say this because it has the lightest and most ergonomic form of any of these VR headsets, and for long stretches of gaming and viewing, it would be the most comfortable.

SpaceRanger2995d ago

Boom! Megatons everywhere on Sony's end today!

Top notch news right as I'm leaving work!

I can finally play Half Life Alyx.

mariopasta67d ago

I can finally watch pron, I mean watch pronouns be pronounced in PC VR games that were previously not available on Playstation.

crazyCoconuts67d ago

be careful not to sprain your... tongue pronouncing those pronouns

Profchaos67d ago

I'm excited for that to plus I can try fallout 4 VR always wanted to play that

crazyCoconuts67d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

DaReapa67d ago

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
