Josh Nichols from BagoGames writes: It can be difficult to remove the rose colored glasses that can often cause the games of our youth to seem spotless, flawless, or even perfect. It can be especially difficult to do so with something as important to so many gamers’ childhoods as Pokemon. It is still taking the world by storm but in the mid nineties, it had engulfed the entire world into a frenzy. Everyone knew many of the names and almost everyone was playing the games. It isn’t difficult to find someone who poured hundreds of hours into Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow Versions. Gamers everywhere were a part of the phenomenon, and I’m sure they still fondly remember details from their many adventures. Everyone remembers Missingno and we all remember the many rumors that were surfacing on the playground, in the classroom, and on the internet. The impact and the legacy of Pokemon R/B/Y is absolutely undeniable but are they as perfect as we all remember?
We’ve seen fan remakes of Pokemon games in the past, some very well done! Today, Pokebro on Youtube posted a video where he gave himself 2 weeks to remake Pokemon Yellow in 3D. The remake features a voxel art style and borrows some mechanics from both Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Legends Arceus.
The average cost of Game Boy games has been steadily rising for years. If you look at the overall price growth, which has doubled within the last five years, then it should be pretty clear Game Boy game prices are following the trend of increasing retro video game prices.
You would have to be crazy to keep a Pokemon game in the box after getting it as a kid, though.
I still have my Final Fantasy Adventure and Zelda: Link's Awakening, but loose. I haven't had the box in... I don't know, a couple decades?
Jo writes "Ash Ketchum’s journey – and our own within the games – across many regions with friends, foes, and fellow pocket monsters turned into a pop culture phenomenon that still reigns as the most successful franchise in its 25th year."
Gotta play them all!
