Hitman – DX11 vs. DX12 @ GTX 980 Benchmark & Graphics Comparison

CD:
We offer a benchmark and graphics comparison of Hitman on PC with DirectX 11 vs. DirectX 12 – PC is set to maximum graphics settings. We used a MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 reference design. Rest of the specs as well as benchmark results can be found at the end of the video. PLEASE NOTE: we did not make an error here. Nvidia cards do not seem to profit from DX12 in this benchmark scene, while AMD cards get huge performance improvements.

Wow No Async compute for NVidia :'( no difference at all. The R9 390 dx12 bench marks have much higher increase on DX12. AMD HW is really getting big gains on DX12.

gfk3422970d ago (Edited 2970d ago )

Of course AMD has the big gains considering that DX12 is just a rebranded Mantle, nothing more nothing less.

So no surprise here, just a confirmation.

XhiXExtreme2970d ago

As far as I know it will only be enabled in the Geforce Drivers the same time 12_1 API releases

darksky2971d ago

If this is sign of DX12 games to come then all those who chose the gimped 970 over the R9 390 will be kicking themselves. Thats a huge difference in performance and fantastic gains for AMD.

DarkOcelet2971d ago

DX12 is definitely a win for AMD.

Pintheshadows2971d ago

My housemate has an R9 390. it is a really beautiful card. It has shrugged off everything he has thrown at it so far.

Great value for money as well.

DonkeyDoner2971d ago (Edited 2971d ago )

then nvidia release gtx 1000 series to counter this

LMAO

mochachino2971d ago (Edited 2971d ago )

That would be a lot of people. The 970 is one of the most popular cards on Steam.

The real test is using an OC 970. Nobody uses stock clocks and it makes a huge difference.

Probably not. http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-... is the link you need to look at to realise this is not a massive deal. Even on DX12 the Fury X/FX-8370 combo gets ass whomped by DX11 mode with the Intel CPU.

The gains are big if you are using an AMD CPU/platform because they are simply not that great gaming CPUs and DX12 gives them a helping hand.

But if you built yourself a gaming machine with an intel (as you should have done if you dropped that much money on a video card) then the gains are not that big. They really don't need as much a helping hand.

You're talking on the order of about 5-10 percent or so on a decent intel machine? 4 frames in this case. It's nice, but it's hardly groundbreaking.

There is currently about what, 10 DX12 games? Only a handful more due this year. Many of those see little to no gains with patched in DX12 support, they are not 'native' DX12 games per se.

By the time there are enough games that utilise DX12 properly let's say 18 months, these cards will be pretty dated anyway and you'll probably be replacing them.

GTX970 is already an 18 month old card as it stands, likely most people have had them for a year or more. This generation will be replaced in 6 months.

@mochachino

The Nvidia cards are oc'ed
980 Strix 1,316MHz
970 Phoenix 1,342MHz

FlyingFoxy2970d ago

AMD did well there, but people with a 980Ti have little to worry about.. benchmarks show it just as good or better than Fury x, well the overclocked versions anyway, shows it can brute force it with its power.

@kudostoyou

Yeah with a starting price of 500 dollars i bet. And you will be able to get a more powerful amd card for less still.

Nvidia just love gimping their cards so you will buy their new card line.

FlameBaitGod2970d ago

AMD was smart cus they where making their cards around DX12 software, nvidia was not.

Duke192971d ago

Cant believe we are already hitting the peak for the 980 and Fury series. (Barely running max settings @ 1080p)

C'mon AMD and NVIDIA - get your new cards out already

awi59512970d ago (Edited 2970d ago )

You dont run those cards at 1080P their frame rates are low at 1080P the fury cards get a boost in performance at 1440P and targeted higher res. The fury cards and perform worse at 1080P frame rates go up to 60 fps at 1440P because they can get away from cpu bottlenecks at higher res. You dont buy a 500 dollar graphcis card then game on it at 1080P thats just stupid.

forager2971d ago (Edited 2971d ago )

Can nvidia support async on new upcoming graphics cards? If so, then what would be the difference between that card and the amd ones?

babadivad2970d ago

I don't believe they do, don't quote me on that. Things may have changed.

It’s the 25th anniversary this year?

I’d have assumed it would have gotten something like a remastered trilogy of the original games or a remake of the first game. Something for a 25th celebration.

A Deep Dive On all Things Hitman With The Voices Behind Agent 47 And Diana Burnwood

From PSU: "Ten years ago, the Hitman franchise was in a transitory state. Blood Money had become something of a classic and with Hitman Absolution there was a clear decision to push IO Interactive’s assassination sim series to a whole new level. That experimental, often divisive, entry turned out to be pivotal in what would follow.

Elements of Absolution, such as its accessibility and player-created content, would be mixed with the more traditional Hitman games’ sense of murderous creativity to birth the Hitman Trilogy 0f 2016-2021. A series that would take its creators on a turbulent journey of publisher changes, independence, and the eventual triumph of being handed the tantalizing 007 license."
