Super Mario Games - Ranked From Worst To Best

"So since we’re already thinking of the portly mustachioed plumber, we thought we’d take a stab at ranking all of his games from worst to best."

This won't be a popular opinion but I wouldn't say Super Mario Galaxy would be my first choice, especially both of them you only need one since the sequel felt like an expansion. Sure it's pretty and the music is fab but compared to past Mario games the freedom isn't there as much.

In Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64 I could go everywhere and back track on myself within the map but with Super Mario Galaxy once you use a launch star it would push you into a new section of the level and you couldn't go back unless you restarted.

The size of the levels felt like an illusion aswell because you were always moving forward in space onto different sphere planets.

That's my take on it anyway

that's obviously depending on everyone's tastes. I dislike 2D Mario games. I become bored of them quit fast so i am only going to talk about 3D games. My personal favorite is Galaxy 2, and the one i disliked was Sunshine due to a bad camera.
Galaxy 2 had it all: graphics, gameplay and almost perfect camera angles. Sunshine frustrated me sometimes when i couldn't aim correctly and the camera was out of hand in very narrow spaces. Was a great game though.

We have to remember that a lot of jounrnalist this days and people commenting here are under 20 yrs old, Only the ones who play this games in the specific time and era can have the best criteria.

Super Mario world will always be number one for me. Super Mario 3 should be higher as well.

ive played almost every mario game ever made...only a few are tethered to my history in a sentimental kinda way....mario bros 3, sunshine, and mario 64

mario bros 3 was the first game i owned on the first home console i owned. tons of memories playing that game at such a young age (4-5) i still remember finding the whistle...

mario 64...most gamers my age have a soft spot for this game and for good reason...timeless music and controls....remember the first time you battled bowser and realized you could pick him up and swing him around?

mario sunshine to me is the most underrated mario game of alltime...chasing shadow mario was great...fluud powerups...unique levels...i still think a sunshine remaster would have been a better idea than wind waker and twilight princess...

I think if you look at what preceded the games then two stand out.

Super Mario Bros 3 was the first to ramp up the variety and challenge, followed by Super Mario64 with a 3D experience and analog giving greater freedom of movement. I personally think Mario64 hasn't aged as well as SMB3, but that's purely opinion.

If you were to look at the best playing SMB, then it is SMB 3D world with its variety, ease of pickup and play and co-op. That's the opinion of a dad who plays games with three children ranging from 5 to 13.

My best is Mario 64. Its hard to beat the jump from 32 bit SMW 2 to Mario 64. Those games were a year apart too. My worst is Sunshine. One game I never regretted selling. It had nice music like most Mario games do but I just couldn't get into the game. Probably the most overrated Mario game to boot. People talk about how great it was and I just never saw it.
