Why Nintendo NX Could Have One of the Strongest Launch Lineups in History

Find out why one writer thinks the timing is right - especially in light of recent rumors - for the Nintendo NX console to have one of the strongest launches ever.

Vita and Wii U had the strongest launch lineups ever, yet still suffered commercially afterwards.

There's no reason to think NX would be different

wonderfulmonkeyman3008d ago

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh, wait....
You were serious?
LET ME LAUGH HARDER.

Seriously, there was NOTHING STRONG about the Wii U's launch lineup.
Any strength it COULD have had was ruined by a lack of killer first party titles, and a huge HOARD of AAA SHOVELWARE that people had already bought on last gen stuff.
Hell, the bad stuff was so notorious that it actually pushed people away from the system to the extent that the GOOD GAMES didn't get sales either as an extension!

I can't speak for the Vita because I didn't own one.

But I digress; there's plenty of reason to think the NX could be different.

We've got rumors of BG&E2, FF XV and VII, DQ, Smash, and quite a few others.
If even half of what's been rumored comes to pass, the NX could EASILY fly past the Wii U as having one of the strongest launch line-ups in history.

People need to quit assuming that Nintendo's incapable of succeeding.
That's hater talk.

Concertoine3008d ago (Edited 3008d ago )

If nintendo lets NX release without a good line up i will be so done.

Tbh i think the Wii U wouldve been more successful had it released in Nov 2013 like the other consoles. That 8 month drought after launch really killed the console. Sure, more competition and all that but if it launched at 299 (100 cheaper than PS4, 200 cheaper than Xbone) with a worked out UI, SM3DW, Pikmin 3, W101, on top of the 2012 launch games, they would've been standing tall next to the barren launch line up of the competition.

It wouldnt have beat any sales records, but tone and consumer satisfaction is everything and if they set that tone early on i think the Wii U would be outpacing the GC.

The main reason i cant see NX launching this year is because i cant see a good launch line up until 2017 at the earliest. All of their studios just finished big games and DLC for those games on top of it.

Neonridr3007d ago

actually the sheer number of AAA titles available at launch was more than any other console ever had when they were released. Regardless if many were ports, how many AAA games were available at the launch of the PS4?

whothedog3008d ago

Yeah not sure about vitas launch but WiiU launch lineup was horrible.

I think they kind of held back with releasing games for the WiiU recently to release on the NX, which is why I do believe they will have a strong launch lineup. I am kind of excited to hear more about this, sadly might get NX if it is that good pricewise and gamewise. A new Zelda and a new Metroid launch title and there would be no question.

jholden32493008d ago

I wouldn't say it was best ever, but Wii U definitely had a strong launch lineup.

The problem is, despite being fantastic, they were mostly all ports of older games. The cream of any Nintendo crop is the 1st party, and the Pikmin 3 delay hurt.

PhoenixUp3008d ago

In terms of games available to play a launch, both the Wii U & Vita had a lot of games to play.

The issue was that you could play them on PS3, 360, and PC. Still doesn't take away the fact they both had the biggest launch lineups in the industry.

nevin13008d ago

"The issue was that you could play them on PS3, 360, and PC. "

They should Lose points then. Unless the Vita/WiiU version was something really different from the 360/PS3/PC version?

PhoenixUp3008d ago

You could still play a lot of quality games at both Wii U and Vita's launches.

It's pathetic how uninformed some people are about Nintendo and how much money they have and how many resources they have.

They own 1/3 of the market share split between Sony, Microsoft & Nintendo....as in they are one of 3 companies at the top.

They aren't going pure 3rd party EVER...they have enough money to fail the next 3-4 generations and still have money to fund a full generation after that for both console & handheld.

It's ridiculous how clueless some of you are.

* Nintendo NX has a huge chance to get Nintendo at or near the top again, and a Legend of Zelda game would definitely be a system seller considering it will be BY FAR the largest game in the series ever.

* A new 3D mario game will ALSO be a system seller.

Nintendo has been working with Square Enix a lot more lately and there is many hints pointing at Dragon Quest XI & Final Fantasy 15/7remake being on the NX as well.

Also there are rumors of the NX being the easiest system ever to develop for( from a dev currently making a game for it), which will get 3rd party dev's to want to make games for it.

* Mix that with the ability to make a game for either the handheld or console and have it be playable on the other is HUGE for 3rd party dev's and the cost of games to sales ratio.

Please stop trying so hard to hate on companies...doesn't matter if it is Microsoft,Sony or Nintendo.

You haters are the joke.

unless they release a an open world pokemon game on there NX Console but dont thing that will ever happen with nintendo

Dubaman3008d ago (Edited 3008d ago )

That's up to Game Freak and The Pokémon Company - both of whom have said that the main Pokémon games will stay handheld only, consoles will get spin-offs i.e. Colosseum, Snap, Gale of Darkness and of course Pokken Tournament. With that being the case and the very real possibility that the NX will be a hybrid console/handheld with some power, as well as the AR elements of Pokémon GO being the start of something for the future - the next-next-gen installment of Pokémon may be more akin to being a "console" without having to focus on being a "console" game.

JBryant06193008d ago

I skipped out on the Wii U but if the NX is a major improvement, then I will happily buy Wii U remasters for it. Super Mario 3D World, GOTYE Mario Kart 8, GOTYE Super Smash Bros, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and Splatoon would all be awesome launch games for the NX.

jholden32493008d ago

Or at least offer BC so you can explore the finest fruits Wii U had to offer.

Idiedgoodbye3008d ago

I bought into the WiiU hype and soI won't be falling into the same pit twice.

I'll wait to see if the NX delivers or flops.

RosweeSon3008d ago (Edited 3008d ago )

Not for Nintendo fans. In response to the list of Wii U games as remasters for Launch day on next system no thanks me and another 10 million plus Nintendo fans or Wii U owners are not gonna want all those games again great as they are BC would be fine but all the same games again?! Just get the console those games alone are worth entry and there are many more besides.

GordonKnight3007d ago (Edited 3007d ago )

Why would they remaster them if the NX is BC with Wii U & 3DS?

Theories on thin air.

Love it.

Crummybear3008d ago

If it launches with a new Mario games, Zelda, and Metroid I will most definitely buy one day one.

DanteVFenris6663008d ago

If it's Zelda it'll most likley be a dual release with zelda wiiu. Id pay 800 dollars for a Nintendo console if they brought metroid back. Echoes was in my opinion the best fps of all time. And I get some people call it an action game but it's still an fps.

A new mario, you just never know what there going to do. I loved 3d world, many I heard didn't understand what made it great. The first 3d coop mario. Can't wait for the next big single player entry though

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno114d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Pretty sure Silk Song and Dragon Age are going smoothly. The other 2 can be assumed to be quietly cancelled knowing their publishers and Metroid will most likely be shown off this year.

Michiel1989138d ago

Dragon Age going smoothly??? Directors leaving, people leaving in general, terrible working conditions....not sure how you define smoothly.

VincentVanBro39d ago

lol Dragon Age development has been anything but smooth

Chocoburger138d ago

I remember in 2017 when Nintendo showed off the Metroid Prime 4 logo, and some Nintendo defenders claimed "Just because they only showed a logo, doesn't mean that's all they've worked on for the game."

As history has proven, they were wrong. Nintendo showed off a logo back in 2017 because that's literally all they had.

-Foxtrot138d ago

I think Beyond Good and Evil 2 can stay there unless they are going to just rename it to a new IP

DOMination-138d ago

Pretty sure BG&E2 is dead at this point - along with the other game Ancel was working on before he left - I think it was called WILD. Anyone remember that from a PS conference years ago?

Dreadwolf isn't in development hell anymore and is finally getting its reveal in the summer - since 2016 the game has been scrapped and restarted three times but its been going pretty well since the last reboot when EA finally allowed BioWare to just get on with making a single player game.

I'm not sure Perfect Dark is in development hell either - like it could be but we haven't really heard much to suggest either way - imo they just showed the trailer off when the game was still in pre-production. Xbox were desperate for anything and this is all they had at the time. And the reason we haven't heard anything since is just because it's in normal development and games take 5 years to make. The help from a support studio was typically overblown on N4G because nearly every game has this.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Matt from We Game Daily writes "The Legend of Zelda series has gone in a different direction. One which, try as I have, I just can’t get on board with. Here is why I think Zelda should return to its 3D roots."

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic145d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon145d ago (Edited 145d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast145d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul144d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.
