Eurogamer reviews Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty

Eurogamer:

"Apart from the length, the lack of new weapons is also disappointing. The wrench abilities are nice, but they're no substitute for a new Groovitron. Instead we get old favourites the Predator Launcher (allowing you to direct a few targeted rockets while dodging incoming fire), and the trusty old Combuster and Fusion Grenades, along with the Tornado Launcher, Shock Ravager, Nano-Swarmers and the Alpha Cannon, most of which are simply given to you, rendering all the bolt-collection largely moot. There's no Trophy support either - apparently the game was already complete when Sony patched in the PS3's new Achievement-esque reward system.

Which doesn't leave a lot to be enthusiastic about, as we can only mention the wrench abilities so many times. Quest for Booty is a solid, funny little platform game with good camerawork and controls so long established that their pristine execution scarcely warrants mention, but it feels so much like a regular Ratchet & Clank game that it's jarring to discover it ends so quickly, leaving us to damn it over and over again with faint praise. At GBP 9.99 it's probably worth it for a couple of evenings of entertainment, but for all the respawning swashbucklers and the catchy Pirates of the Caribbean style theme tune, it's could really do with another significant hook."

An amazing series and this will be no different, but even at this stage I can say openly it is time to do something "BIG" again. When I was walking around planets in full 3-d traversal on R&C2, 5 to 6 years before Galaxy was even thought up, that was great.

They need to do something big again. I only hopethey can do something for the next big release, other than awesome graphics. I want to see user generated content or full 3-d real time space traversal. As in going from one planet to the other in real time.

Cajun Chicken5729d ago

Those spherical levels were awesome.
I'm sure Insomniac can get back there again. They should take some tips from Serious Sam's crazy nonsensical physics, (the best bit of 'Future was traveling around the space station using magna-boots and jumping puzzles.))
But whilst playing R&C Future, I found it a little bit of a reboot for those who missed the series the first time (I caught them just over a year before R&C PS3 was announced) and in conclusion; probably need to come up with a collectors pack of the series for PS2.
Mainly, I felt R&C was lacking vehicles and the old technique of picking up multiple gadgets from different planets to solve one puzzle/area, but it was really nice to have platforming again, even though I did SERIOUSLY did enjoy Deadlocked/Gladiator, but wouldn't want all the games going the same way from there.

Eurogamer reviewed Booty for Quest like a real game, but Booty for quest is a PSN game that cost 10 bucks. What the fk do these idiots at Eurogamer expected they were getting? Super Ratchet Galaxy?

Its a PSN DOWNLOAD game and costs 10 bucks! Wake the fk up, stupid xbots. Compared to Booty for Quest, there is no fking 360 ARCADE game that comes even close.

Wake the fk up, 360 is dying! PS3 is where its at and the future.

I've had it, I'd be totally honest.
I, struggle, to, find, games, I, Like, on, the, 360.
I'm 20-odd, at university and I don't want to be forced into playing the same damn game, I've had it with MS.
People with pure common sense and a sense of logic are jumping on board the PS3 train. Free online, multiple free services, brilliant first party developed games (PSN and Blu-Ray).
Stop paying 'Live, finish it all, see how much you can SAVE if you actually stop dancing to the tune MS play.
I did it ages ago, because seriously, I struggle finding games for 360 more than the PS3; and the differences between the consoles are overblown.

thereapersson5729d ago

7/10... not bad considering this is a downloadable title that isn't very long.

Syronicus5729d ago

If it has the same pristine controls, camera and style as seen in the other games then heck yeah it's a must have for me. I loved all of the weapons in Tools of Destruction and if this has them all then I am all about it. Sounds like it will be a blast.

titntin5729d ago

Well considering they only gave the amazing original an 8/10, I guess 7/10 is respectable from these guys. But I've never liked or agreed with their reviews on anything really, so I'll be waiting for a better review site before I guess weather this worth buying. Given how muchg I enjoyed the last title, and that this is 1/4 of the porice of a full size game, I'll probably pick it up!

Cajun Chicken5729d ago

£10 for gameplay no-one else in the industry offers?
Fine, I'll take it. Mind you 7/10 is an amazing score for such a bitesized game.

Man... what i wouldnt give to have a full PS5 UHD of all the R&C games in one collection. i guess streaming them on PS+ is the next best thing (or naturally a PS3)

Aloymetal540d ago

Rift was a joy to play, absolutely beautiful.

FallenAngel1984540d ago

They couldn’t make PS2 versions of those R&C games like they did with the J&D games?

mkis007540d ago

considering they are ps3 games that never had ps2 versions....no.

CobraKai540d ago

Yeah? You might wanna double check that.

mkis007540d ago

Kobra
What fan that waited for launch day needs to know? There were 4 ps2 games the rest starting with tools was ps3 only. Quest for booty, a crack in time, nexus, full frontal assault were ps3 games.

FallenAngel1984540d ago

You really saying Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and Ratchet: Deadlocked weren’t on PS2? 🤨

theandinator92540d ago

Even Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank had PS2 versions...

mkis007539d ago

Of course I wasn't talking about the actual ps2 games...why would they need to make ps2 versions of ps2 games? That is why I only included the ps3 games in my comment.

FallenAngel1984539d ago

@ no

You must’ve misunderstood what I asked for.

I’m saying they should’ve made PS2 Classic versions of these Ratchet & Clank titles on PS4 so they’d be downloadable just like Jak & Daxter had rather than just streaming the PS3 versions

mkis007539d ago

Ya I realized you meant emulated versions after the fact.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is amazing. I really hope Insomniac are working on more. I'm always up for another Ratchet & Clank game.

CobraKai540d ago

I think it’s still the only “Next Gen” game that truly looks next gen.

Levii_92540d ago

Sick ! R&C is still one of my favourite franchises.

Ranking the Ratchet and Clank Games from Worst to Best

From Xfire: "Insomniac Games first introduced the unlikely duo of Ratchet and Clank back in 2002 on the PlayStation 2. Since then, the series has taken audiences on a journey that has spanned not just an entire galaxy, but multiple dimensions, with its most recent outings."

Levii_921043d ago

Best games of the franchise are Up Your Arsenal, A Crack in Time, 2016 Remake and without a doubt the newest one Rift Apart. You simply can’t go wrong with these.

Man what a glorious game series.

neutralgamer19921043d ago

Only ones I don't like as much are all 4 one and full frontal assault other than that all games are awesome( even these are good games just not up to the standard of other games in the series)

victorMaje1043d ago

Nice article, good list, they're all fun & I love this game!
Rift Apart is spectacular.
Insomniac are wizards, I want their next game to be a new Resistance. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next.

DOMination-1043d ago

Ryan Mccaffrey said last week that Resistance 4 was in development but Sony cancelled it due to the high number of post-apocalyptic games around at the moment.

victorMaje1043d ago

Well that’s a shame. I feel they could do something truly special with today’s technology.

chicken_in_the_corn1043d ago

I'm looking forward to playing Rift Apart then the whole series sometime afterward. Up Your Arsenal is my favourite

Retro Review - Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty is typically regarded as one of the worst in the Ratchet & Clank series, and it’s clear why after playing it over the Holiday season. It is only set in one world with little story to be be had, the level design can be frustrating, and the lack of weapons (and anything new) make this short 3-hour entry worth skipping in the series.
