Next 'Harry Potter' Made For Wii First, Other Consoles Second

"Harry Potter" is a series dictated by the most popular console. First, PS One. Then, PlayStation 2. For a while, Xbox 360. But now, Wii has taken over.

Making Wii the lead platform was the first decision that "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" executive producer Jonathan Bunney made when approaching the latest Wizard game.

They are just product whores. This goes to show they don't care about the quality of the product. They just develop on whichever console is the most popular. Sigh.

It's actually more obvious.
It could be that the audience they want to reach would be on Wii rather on the 360 or PS3.
And who says the quality will be sh/t only because it's on the Wii?
They could make good use of the Wii-mote with a game like this.( not saying it will be good for sure since we wont know what they will do with it.)

I think they're more likely developing on the console that has the most percentage of people who play harry potter games lol. It's all demographics. Not everything technologically advanced is more important.

Thats just how the world works guys.. PS2 was the weakest last gen but every game was made on it first for the most part then ported over to Xbox and GC. It didnt hurt games last gen it wont hurt them this gen. Most dev's will just go with the most popular console and port to the others. No reason to be upset about it though.. well unless you're a Sony fan, but GC and xbox owners should already be used to it and expecting it. Since this is a first for Sony only gamers I can see them being upset, but hardcore gamers that can afford more than one console will already know this is the norm and has been for many gens.

It has sold better on Wii than any other console but then again many games have been doing that. EA has already said they'd be putting most of their stuff on Wii first then porting. Cant blame them, Wii owners are handing them more money than PS3 or 360 owners are. Even Tiger Woods has sold better on Wii since it launched. Only two I know of so far but I am sure there are many more stories like that we just havent heard them yet.

Harry Potter and the Evolution of Gaming From 2001-2011

The perks of having an eight-movie franchise based on the Harry Potter books with a tie-in game for each movie is that you can tell a lot about the state of gaming at the time.

Strange title for a Harry Potter book.

Relientk772277d ago

Hoping for a new Harry Potter game soon that's actually good. Hasn't been one in awhile. Really enjoyed the 2 Lego Harry Potter games though.

SegaGamer2277d ago (Edited 2277d ago )

It doesn't even need to be Harry Potter. Just make a massive game about Hogwarts and you play as kid that has to work his or her way up through the years. If done right, it can be a really great game.

Why don't movie tie-ins work?

It's common knowledge that movie tie-ins come under much more scrutiny and criticism than any other type of game. Most would argue (perhaps justifiably) that this is thoroughly deserved, and that they can never replace such blockbuster titles as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and God of War III. On this front PS3 Attitude would have to agree, but why exactly is this the case?

Lack of narrative freedom and crappy budgets.

Planet Xbox 360: Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince - Review

Planet Xbox 360 writes: "Harry Potter and his encounters with the Half-Blood Prince won't win over newcomers to the franchise but it may have enough juice to entertain longtime fans. Electronic Arts is not going to win any awards with this video game based on the hugely popular series that spans the globe. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is no different than the previous titles with gameplay that will be felt as overly repetitive. The phenomenon of Harry Potter is no mystery; it's able to grasp the attention of all demographics. As a novel, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was remarkable in its attempt to push its characters towards adulthood and their encounters with mature scenarios such as Harry's journey with Professor Dumbledore through Lord Voldemort's cave. As a film, Warner Brothers took the novel and put forth one of the darkest entries in the series to date."
