Will the Xbox One win the battle of the console exclusives this generation?

IM PLAYIN discuss whether or not the Xbox One has the potential to win the battle of the console exclusives, this generation.

We have so many PS4 exclusives being constantly announced and released far more often than any other dedicated gaming platform this gen. Not to mention that just like all of its predecessors, it will receive plenty of exclusives in its golden years going into the generation that comes after.

The way I look at it Ms didn't really release great games after 2010 because they were working on games for the Xbox One. On the other hand Sony released one of the best exclusive of last gen months before the Ps4 came out

I'm not sure if I can say they started making launch games in 2010, thats a bit much.

Sony historically has also been known to release titles long into the generation.

GT6 came out a little after PS4, LBP3 released after PS4 etc.

God Of War 2 released after PS3 even. They just have a greater history of longevity them MS does. MS has such a small stable of titles that they need to really focus on 1 platform at a time when releasing a new console, they can't just save some for their older platform like Sony can as Sony has the largest first party and gets support internationally.

They are just to different to really factor both the same way I guess.

No, a lot don't...you are thinking of big indie games like Firewatch which are developed concurrently from third parties...the only reason they are on the PS platform first or exclusively is because Sony presented a welcome platform for them from the outset. SFV is the only major console exclusive for the PS4 that is nearing release, all other console exclusives were indies & every single first party Sony game & ip are full exclusives. Pretty sure you'll never see Uncharted on a PC...or TLOU, or Bloodborne, or Ratchet & Clank or Until Dawn, or Infamous, or Killzone, or Horizon, etc., etc.

I believe the point that knickstr was getting at was that MS first party exclusives are hitting the PC as well this gen & Sony's aren't, which is an outright fact, not a double standard. No reason to argue facts, and if it is not a pissing match between folks then it should be fair game to just point out sheer facts. The availability of MS exclusives on PC shouldn't diminish MS gamers of their enjoyment of those games...just happens to be true that Sony only develops first party exclusives for their console & MS develops them across 2 platforms.

@JB- correct. Titles like Firewatch might only be on PS4 and PC due to the team being a small team, they can't just afford to make games on 3 or 4 platforms or anything like that.

EA, Ubisoft, Take Two etc are at the very top for a reason, they can afford to create games in such a huge volume in terms of platforms, other smaller teams just can't bankroll such developers so I'd rather not have folks pretend as if its this easy and cheap thing to do.

I'd assume MOST are not doing it out of hate or anything, merely that they can't afford it.

I can't even say some of those titles are "exclusive" as they are also on PC and even if we use the term "console exclusive", its likely not do to Sony or MS as much as it do to the team just can't afford such a huge production on all platforms at once.

MS is making PC titles, but they honestly should have been since the start of even last gen. It was just lost money for them to not bring many titles to PC and the reality is....Windows is still MS platform and they can make money on it just the same as they can with XB and it should have never been neglected.

its not like PSVita where its not doing well in sales, we are talking about a HUGE install base of gamers that easily would have bought titles MS created. It was stupid not to and they are clearly changing that now.

This is again no different then Sony with its handheld, Nintendo and its handheld etc.

It happens and MS has had 2 platforms, they need to start really supporting BOTH platforms equally as it makes no sense to try to favor one over the other.

If you like XONE, your still getting games. MS has no reason to keep losing money to fuel fanboy wars. They also make more money with software sales, good to see Phil is smart enough to let them know this.

Not sure why you are getting disagrees there, because that has been the case every gen so far, and I'm personally proud of Sony for their commitment to sp...that is basically the sole reason why I am a PS gamer. More power to the people who dig mp, if they do & they want to play anything other than multiplats they should mostly stick to Xbox. That is not to say that Sony doesn't mess around and drop some great fun mp from time to time, but it is not Sony's priority whereas MS have plainly stated on multiple occasions that mp is one of their main priorities and they typically ask all of their devs to include an mp component in any game they create. To me mp is more of an icing on the cake kind of deal for Sony exclusives whereas mp is the cake itself for most MS exclusives.

The Uncharted series has had some great fun moments, so did TLOU, both are very underrated for their sheer fun factor...Killzone has had its moments, then there are a lot of more unconventional mp titles for the PS platform. Sony doesn't have the focus on mp that MS does, but there are still a few that slide in there & scratch that itch for a lot of gamers.

No, it won't. Sony has already beaten them in 2013-2015 with their exclusives and they weren't even trying yet. 2016 and onward, Microsoft simply won't be able to keep up.

They won't be able to buy timed exclusives anymore like Rise of the tomb raider or 3rd party exclusives like Scalebound because no one will wanna go with them anymore.

It depends on what games you like. Sony has nothing for me besides Bloodborne and Uncharted. Im into awesome mp games and those are rare at ps. If you like ps4 exclusives that is completely fine, just dont act like other consoles have no good games.

No because XBO has no exclusives. It's all on PC anway. Wii U has had the best exclusives so far this gen in general. PS4 easily has the most 3rd party support but so far I don't own a an exclusive PS4 game.

Looking at the situation.
Indies no longer simply go to PlayStation. The Xbox gets a ton as well. Many which PlayStation doesn't get and vice versa. If you haven't noticed or disagree I regret to inform you that you haven't been paying attention.

The Xbox is a Windows 10 platform. This could possibly mean that any and all games that come out for pc can probably be very easily ported to Xbox. This would mean more pc games on xbox and vice versa.

To me this is also a way to see if a company has signed a deal to keep it from the Xbox if it is indeed very easy to just move games between Windows 10 platforms then yea. Money constraints no longer become an issue for developers to release on xbox and therefore the only issue could be a contract.

Regardless PlayStation has more market share which allows them more deals and also has more studios....this should mean about 3x the amounts of exclusive with every release cycle from their triple A studios.
Unfortunately that really hasn't been the case.

PlayStation also has Japanese support and it'll be interesting to see what happens as more Japanese games are making their way to pc. If MS manages to unify Xbox and pc it might mean all pc games including Japanese games may come to the Xbox.

I don't see why anyone would expect for XB1 to win in the console exclusivity department. They've never won in that department, and it's worse this time around with Microsoft sales numbers being so low in Japan Developers and Publishers in the Eastern Market could overall see producing games on the XB1; especially exclusive titles, as a none viable option.

People who think XB1 will have more exclusives than the PS4 don't play enough video games and by that I mean different genres. Must only be interested in certain kinds of games like...shooters or something.

Look lets ... do it this way. Right now, how many Fighting Games are available to play on the PS4? Now how many on the XB1? Okay now how many RPG's are available to play on the PS4 vs the XB1? You don't have to include the upcoming games like Nier, Star Ocean, Persona or anything like that if you don't want to it doesn't matter.

That's just an example, but you get my point. At the end of the day PS4 is the better console because it's sold the most and has the most attention and a bigger world wide presence and that's just the way it is. Uh...does not mean you can't go out and buy a XB1 because of that.

In the end that's what it is supposed to be about...if a console has games you want to play then you go out and buy it so you can play it, but whatever. These guys today just want to stir the pot. It's all they know how to do now to get some clicks and then people buy into all the manufactured hype without even trying to use any logic to think for themselves.

The XBox One probably doesn't have any more console exclusives coming up on it any more. They will release simultaneously on PC like like their big exclusive Quantum Break.

They mentioned this about two months ago. Microsoft said themselves they're going to put more focus on pc gaming. With the announcement of Quantum Break going PC it would seem that everything moving forward will have a simultaneous release.

Yes Nintendo does have the highest rated exclusives (I own a WII U and the titles deserved). But the number of exclusives available on the Xbox dwarf Sony's and their available now. Anyone who denies that backwards compatible (on top of the available exclusives) is not a required feature your simply not a gamer, you trend and often own what your told to. You don't have an educated or informed opinion and can't if your not willing to examine both sides of any argument than you simply have an idea. The PS2 won over the original box hands down, 360 won last gen, this gen is different as people are buying a console absent titles. Isn't this the reason people pick up a system?
