Hands-on: I like the new Hitman, and its episodic model | Destructoid

DTOID:

"Have you ever wondered just how Cueball McFurrowed-Brow became the famously good killing man of the Hitman series' glory years? Of fucking course not, which is why the need to string Hitman: Absolution together into some S&M nun story fell kind of flat last generation."

I'd like to know how much you were paid to write this.

rdgneoz33022d ago

Most likely the full game as it releases for free. As for the episodic approach, the only good thing about it is you can see if you like the game for $15. If you don't, then don't buy any more episodes.

_-EDMIX-_3022d ago

Well that's the general idea isn't it? This model is not forcing anyone to purchase it in this format.

That's almost like saying if it company introduced a rental program that you would be scared because you don't like to rent GAMES never mind that them introducing this rental program actually never stopped any of their releases or never stop their original format of physical or digital.

OoglyBoogly3022d ago

Why would you like episodic vs. just getting the whole game from the get go?

_-EDMIX-_3022d ago

Because some people may not even know if they like the game in the first place that's almost like saying why would you like to pay for a single episode of a show you've never seen versus the entire box set collection...

Consider it's not out of the realm of possibility that someone might do this.

I have no clue why some gamers are so self centered they can't even slightly understand other people's issues. I personally wouldn't do this, but I get how someone could easily.

OoglyBoogly3022d ago

That's what renting or Steam refund is for. Your analogy doesn't really fit.

_-EDMIX-_3022d ago

Explain how my analogy doesn't fit? With being stated if it's an option to buy or play something that is once again completely optional because you do not like rentals does not mean they shouldn't create rentals when we're saying it's an option it's basically saying you don't even need to play through this.

Rental markets exist other distribution methods exist but what do those methods have to do if a final version actually still exists in the fall?

I don't even completely understand most peoples stupid arguments regarding it so what you're saying is it would be better to have no versions exist of the game other than a final version releasing at fall? But I'm not getting it what is the episodic version being released prior to that even doing to you if you're not even purchasing it?

Just because I do not stream my games just because I don't download my games just because I don't buy my games episodicly doesn't mean that I don't want those distribution methods to exist I buy my games physical in most times in final forms if they were even episodic in the first place, that the existence of the option means nothing to me.

What I'm basically saying is how is the option hurting you? You don't need to actually play your games through this method is only an option and the final version is releasing in the fall.

Gangster red brought up a great point when he stated what would it matter if the game released in a final form and also had an episodic option day and date of release?

So the options hurting you? Something you won't even play in the methods somehow killing you and bringing you to tears? It's ignorance stupid and makes no sense and it might be the most self centered and childish thing I've ever read.

Mind you I'm still getting the final version of this game as disk-based and I could tell you I actually don't care it's being released episodically I actually think it's better for square to do it this way to get more gamers playing the game in trying it out if they want to.

Wow the defensive is persistent for this games release strategy.

They knew it was a better idea to release it in one complete package, acknowledged that fact, but decided to go with Choice A. Logic doesn't make enough money guys.

EDIT: and my comment on that article got deleted, thank you for further validating my point.

_-EDMIX-_3022d ago

What exactly do you mean better? The game is actually still getting a retail final released along with the final download this fall.

It actually wasn't supposed to release in a final form in March in the first place or ever was.

So I have no idea how you believed being released episodic was done as supposed to a final game in March as you don't actually know the finality of this games content.

Mind you let's say even for arguments sake if they did that exactly what's even hurting you to wait till fall for the version you want? No one's actually forcing you to purchase the game episodicly.

Some of the arguments against this format might be the dumbest points if you factor it still has a final version coming in fall.

That's like saying you hate rentals in don't like the rental format yet disregard it's an optional format and you don't need to actually play or purchase your games through this method so how is the method existence hurting you if it's merely an option that you don't even have to choose?

I'm sorry but there's zero proof you ever would have been playing a final version in March in the first place.

It’s the 25th anniversary this year?

I’d have assumed it would have gotten something like a remastered trilogy of the original games or a remake of the first game. Something for a 25th celebration.

A Deep Dive On all Things Hitman With The Voices Behind Agent 47 And Diana Burnwood

From PSU: "Ten years ago, the Hitman franchise was in a transitory state. Blood Money had become something of a classic and with Hitman Absolution there was a clear decision to push IO Interactive’s assassination sim series to a whole new level. That experimental, often divisive, entry turned out to be pivotal in what would follow.

Elements of Absolution, such as its accessibility and player-created content, would be mixed with the more traditional Hitman games’ sense of murderous creativity to birth the Hitman Trilogy 0f 2016-2021. A series that would take its creators on a turbulent journey of publisher changes, independence, and the eventual triumph of being handed the tantalizing 007 license."
