"Now, if only they announced a western release for Dragon Quest X, it’d brighten my day, but unfortunately we’ll have to wait longer for that, if it’ll ever happen."

I can live without DQX but DQXI MUST come outside of Japan. Its not fair they get to enjoy those games only :(

Abriael3008d ago

I'm fairly positive that we'll get it. We got Dragon Quest Heroes after all.

DarkOcelet3008d ago

I hope so because it looks amazing.

Letthewookiewin3008d ago

Dragon Quest Heros was amazing hope we get DQH2 also.

Apollosupreme3008d ago (Edited 3008d ago )

Who cares about that. We want Dragon Quest Builders first.

DarkOcelet3008d ago

I care lol.

With the success of Dragon Quest Builders, i think it will easily come outside of Japan.

Apollosupreme3008d ago

Good, I got a laugh. Mission accomplished.

DarkOcelet3008d ago

Well then, Thank you for the Laugh :D

bouzebbal3008d ago (Edited 3008d ago )

It has been confirmed on PS4. So that might be a possibility (on PS4 at least).
A lot of DQ main episodes made it to the west (NDS PS2).. With the success of PS4 and the rise of JRPGs DQXi is definitely coming

FallenAngel19843008d ago

The Dragon Quest franchise has a slow localization process in comparison to Final Fantasy. It usually takes at least a year after its Japanese release for a mainline Dragon Quest game to reach western markets.

I really wonder if Square Enix is really all that satisfied with ROTR selling 1 million in two months when they were unsatisfied with TR 2013 selling 3.4 million in one month.

DarkOcelet3008d ago

Usually the first game in a franchise gets a higher budget than the sequels because many assets are re-used in the games after it.

But i am sure it will sell more than 5 million overall, we dont know the PC figures yet and i am sure it will sell well on PS4.

UltraNova3008d ago (Edited 3008d ago )

"i am sure it will sell well on PS4."

Depends on the game's relevance at that time, other AAA games released then, pricing, content included, if there will be ps4 specific enhancements that might seem attractive to a ps4 user.

As you can see selling well on the ps4 depends on a lot of factors, factors SE is strangely not bothered with as of lately.

_-EDMIX-_3007d ago (Edited 3007d ago )

Agreed. Its why some of those sequels release faster, they will likely make more money on the sequel I agree on that 100%.

Not sure about 5 million, but time will tell.

@Ultra- your not wrong, merely that only to a degree would other AAA games take away that interest in Tomb Raider, it doesn't need much "enhancements" or extras as consider its a game PS4 users haven't played so what good would adding extras really do for its sales?

You can have something that you didn't even know was or wasn't in the game? The game itself is good enough.

I think over time it will move those units as its still a game and a few sales and price drops will likely get them to break even.

shadowknight2033007d ago (Edited 3007d ago )

Myself personally will be waiting for a cheap price on tomb raider only because they made a deal to release it first on xbox. It would be the same if they released first on ps and i was xbox only. I hate when publishers do this practice of business. It only hurts us as a consumer not enjoying a multiplatform game. So all I can really do to say "shit on me shit on you" is not buy till bargain bin price. 💯

MachuchalBrotha3163008d ago (Edited 3008d ago )

Well that 3.4 million came on multiple platforms with over a 160 mil+ gamers. I'd say selling 1mil in two months with less is a good thing. No?

@DarkOcelot, very true, and I cant explain that. Only my take was that I wanted to play Tomb Raider on Xbox One not Xbox 360. And looking at some of the numbers more than half was sold on Xbox One.

DarkOcelet3008d ago

Dont forget that ROTR was released on both X360 and Xone.

That is almost a 100 million install base.

ThePope3008d ago (Edited 3008d ago )

@DarOcelet

You're assuming that there are still 80 million people that own X360s. I think that is very unlikely.

But even if your number is true that means the first game launched to about 200+ million gamers (360,PS3,PC) and the second released to 100 million gamers. So it sold half to about half as many gamers.

It doesn't matter in truth how much it sold as someone on here will spin it as a failure since it didn't launch on PS4 some people have to hold their breath and stomp their feet. You go girl! lol

christocolus3008d ago (Edited 3008d ago )

@fallen

In the first week of January MS said ROTR had sold “well over” 1m. For all we know it could be over 2mill now on xbox consoles alone and from this article it seems SE is quite happy with ROTR sales so far.

https://www.gamefly.com/#!/...

yeahright23008d ago

Eh, I don't think they care as much about how many units sold as they do how much money they put in the bank. so if the difference in profit with that MS cash put ROTR ahead of TR2013... they're probably happy.
That said, I doubt ROTR made more.

Tomb Raider is so darn good! I can't wait to play it more. Now, about Kingdom Hearts 3...when the heck do we get to play it?!?!?!

noksucow733008d ago

Tomb Raider has easily been my favorite game this year. A close second is Fallout 4.

NeoGamer2323008d ago

Yep.

I played through both the 360 and X1 versions and am now on the PC version!

I could (and will) play through many more times as this game is really, really good!

noksucow733007d ago Show
Pongwater3007d ago

"The disagrees must be salty ps4 fanboys"

Right, because it's not possible that anyone could legitimately disagree that the game is worth playing through 3 times with "many more" play throughs in the future.

I can make a list of my all time favorites and I don't think I could say that about any of them. There's nothing wrong with him saying it and doing it, but it is possible to disagree without any sort of fanboy agenda.

NeoGamer2323007d ago

@Pongwater
I don't mind disagrees. If people disagree and don't play the game it is their loss not mine. Like I have said, I played through both 360 and X1 versions and am now playing through on PC and am thoroughly enjoying each play through.

I play a lot of games. And last year my opinion was that this was one of the best if not the best game.

Definitely the best Action-Adventure game last year.

XanderZane3007d ago

Why all the disagrees? The game is great. Critics gave RotTR very good reviews. PC gamers are now loving it as well. It was a Day One purchase for me and I ain't mad. Looks like SE are happy with the sales so far and more are on the way.

What are they doing over there? Sounds like they canceled something big. I read a rumor a while back about ff9 remake . Here "Final Fantasy IX has gone through a very challenging development, the game is still in progress but may undergo changes drastic enough that we won't hear about it for a couple of years."
This could be one of the reasons if the rumor is true. That was Silknight i don't know how credible he is but it's something and it would make sense.

-Foxtrot3h ago

I hope IX is still on the cards

Just a straight up remake which they expand a little bit nothing over ambitious

If IX dosent happen then VI and VIII will never be thought of.

TiredGamer2h ago

What are they doing? Sales are falling and the costs are out of control. Big releases need to be absolute sales home runs now, and Final Fantasy sales have stagnated.

Now we know why Square didn’t fall over themselves to remake the original FF7 all these years ago. It certainly wasn’t a license to print money, at least not with what the expectations were. Each of these full on remakes drains an enormous amount of company resources for a razor thin profit margin.

TwoPicklesGood2h ago

Breaking the game up into multiple parts was a mistake IMO.

blackblades43m ago

The loses came from cancelling games nothing else.

shadowT4h ago

Do not miss Final Fantasy 16. Great game!

raWfodog3h ago

I'm waiting for them to release the complete edition bundle, but it's definitely on my list.

PhillyDonJawn3h ago

Wth is going on with the gaming industry?

mandf2h ago

Corporate investors taking everything

TiredGamer2h ago

Not rocket science. Compare sales numbers, development cycles, and budgets to the previous gens. We are all collectively burning up the industry from the inside out. Expectations are ludicrously high now for every release and sales are dropping for even the most prestigious of series.

We used to be satisfied paying $50-60 for a game that took 1/100th the budget and staff to make. Now gamers feel cheated if they have to pay the same for a game that took 100x the budget. We may be reaching the end of the line for this model of gaming.

TiredGamer3h ago

The industry implosion is continuing. Sky high budgets, prolonged development windows, stagnant sales numbers, and falling currency values (inflation) are wreaking havoc on the legacy industry. AAA games will slowly become the rarity.

CS73h ago

Sad. Rebirth was one of my favorite games in a long time. Should have sold more.

CrimsonWing691h ago

Oh I’m with you. What’s worse is they can say, “Well we tried to make this amazing game and spend all this money on, but not enough people showed an interest. So no more of these since we can’t take a hit like that.”

The industry is going to take a dramatic shift. Mark my words on this.

rpvenom1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I think there is quite a large portion of individuals like myself who held out on buying it on PS5 because I can get it on PC eventually. To be able to mod the game and also have custom graphical settings to my liking

Square & Bandai Namco Being Honest About Quality Is A Step In The Right Direction

Saad from eXputer: "After suffering from massive financial hits, Square Enix & Bandai Namco appear to be turning over a new leaf but I'm still unconvinced."

Nerdmaster19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

I was talking about games with some Japanese guys here in Japan, and it seems like around here Bandai Namco has a fame of making low-quality games, with the occasional gem.

About Square Enix, I believe they lack the capacity to improve. They should learn with Capcom (although even Capcom still makes some bad mistakes), but I don't think they ever will. They keep chasing whatever is new at the time (blockchain, AI...) to say "we innovate", without considering the public perception and if these things actually improve the games or not. Them releasing too many small games with no advertising also shows a lack of trust in its own products. Even with their biggest games, like turning FF into an action game with XVI and the very divisive plot changes regarding whispers and timelines in VII Remake, shows them trying to attract a new generation of gamers without understanding what made the series so big in the first place.

shinoff218318h ago

I want a true ff7 remake. With thatcsaid I'm way happier with 7 remake then I was with ff16. I'd still prefer turn based but square keep chasing these Lil kids

Snookies1214h ago

Man, it is perfectly fine to prefer turn based. Turn based is amazing. But there's zero reason to call anyone who likes action games "lil kids". Liking one gameplay system over another does not make you more mature in any way.

VersusDMC17h ago

People love the new FF's overall...the problem is the abundance of 7's they release that lose money or make very little like diofield, star ocean divine force, Valkyrie asylum, harvestella, foam stars, etc. Advertising wouldn't have saved those games. Apparently Forespoken had a big Advertising budget but we saw how that went.

shinoff218317h ago(Edited 17h ago)

Star ocean divine force actually sold well from what I've read not ff type numbers but well enough. Was a dope game to.

FinalFantasyFanatic16h ago

Bandai Namco is going to Bandai Namco, I do believe that Square Enix can't change without changing the entire management, they've had these issues for more than a decade and haven't learnt, I have very little faith they can course correct. I'll still buy their better remasters/remakes like Star Ocean 2 though (not FF7R).

Asterphoenix14h ago

Namco is just milking the same Sword Art Online with lack of budget as well as anime IPs that don't go to decent developers like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. Namco deserves their losses and no future Dot Hack or Xenosaga remaster :(.

Square allocated lot of their budget on Forspoken was a mistake. Square always had management issues. Star Ocean 2 was a great remake and I found their recent entries of FF(16 and Rebirth) better than 13 and 15.
I think they were better than 360/PS3 generation where Square went really downhill.

CrimsonWing6917h ago

I don’t know why NOW they decide on this, but I guess later is better than never.

I’m Glad Atlus & SE Changed Dates To Avoid Competing With Shadow Of The Erdtree

Saad from eXputer: "I'm glad I don't have to choose between Square Enix, Atlus, and FromSoftware due to bad release windows and Shadow of the Erdtree."

H96d ago

More intelligent than guerilla games

raWfodog5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Atlus is releasing their game one week before Erdtree, SE is releasing theirs one week after.

HZD released four days before Zelda, HFW released one week before Elden Ring.

It seems to me like they are still releasing their games too close to Erdtree.

VincentVanBro4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

What a word vomit, rambling, turd of an article that simply states the obvious. Classic exputer.
