All 8 Main Resident Evil Games, Ranked from Worst to Best

Twinfinite:
Let's rank the main games in the Resident Evil series.

Resident Evil 5 is by no means a bad video game. It looks great, sounds great, and has great action sequences. So why is it so low on this list? The fifth main title entry in this long running series was meant to build on the incredible success of Resident Evil 4. What fans got instead was a game that was more of a Call of Duty meets Gears of War hybrid skinned in Resident Evil lore and gameplay, rather than a survival horror game.

RE5 being ranked worse then RE6...really ¬¬

Milkandcookies3019d ago

While I do agree that RE 5 was a better video game, We just feel like RE 6 was more true to the source material and tone of the series. It was an abysmal game to be certain.

-Foxtrot3019d ago (Edited 3019d ago )

RE6 was no way true to the source material or tone of the series

It took RE5 and blasted the action up to 10 while focusing on the co-op side of it which we didn't like.

RE6 was more of an over the top action shooter then RE5 and for the franchises tone that's not what the series is about.

EDIT @Below

Even Leon's mode was pretty crappy. It was basically like what we saw in RE5 but a tad worse, it just stood out more because it was better then the other two god awful campaigns.

Milkandcookies3019d ago

I agree, 2 of the 3 campaigns were way too action heavy but at least Leon's tried to bring the mood back. Both of these games can die a horrible death honestly. Nothing close to the quality of the originals

breakpad3018d ago (Edited 3018d ago )

haha the article is completely ridiculous ...RE4 no1 are you fing serious ..the game that completely destroyed the series ,NO1????? No1 is the only true classic and best RE ..RE1 on PSX after it follows RE Outbreak1-2 which were the true RE 1.5 and after them RE 2-3 ..at the end you can add RECV which was a decent game...in no fing way RE 456 rank as good RE games ...they were ridiculous at least

Bebob3018d ago

Res 4 is idd the best in the series. It brought a total new game, but felt still like resident evil! Great great game!

Gaming1013017d ago

I don't get all the hate with RE5... it was a competent game at least, I had a blast playing multiplayer co-op! The weapons were interesting and the enemies were decently varied. At least there were no fixed camera angles, tank controls or retarded puzzles like in every RE game before RE4.

NovaCorps3018d ago

the only reason i played res 6 was for leon campaign and only the first 3 chapters are good...then...michael bay came in

BISHOP-BRASIL3018d ago

Michael Bay came in for Chris, but it seens he worked with Shyamalan for Wesker son's campaing (I can't even remember the guy's name, that's how awful it was).

Aquacure3018d ago

His name was Jake, from StateFarm.

babadivad3018d ago

People actually like that tool?? *talking about Leon*

NovaCorps3018d ago

BISHOP-BRASIL
so you tell me that the latest 2 chapters was not michael bay made of...what about the wolf-trex-bug etc etc transformation forms of that boss plus the kk explosions out of the @ss...or that helicopter chase scene lol

NovaCorps3018d ago

babadivad

well leon got the only " decent " campaign near to true resident evil game and that was only the early chapters once he left that tomb everything was michael bay

BISHOP-BRASIL3016d ago

"he worked with" is different from not a hint of his style at all. I'm just pointing out that the third campaing is not just action-tastic, it's also freaking weird.

TRS_Gear3018d ago

I know right?

I %1000 disagree with the author of the article ranking RE5 worse than RE6.

While RE5 certainly wasn't my favorite, I did really enjoy playing it online with my friends.

RE6 was an unplayable pile of garbage. Unrecognizable to the rest of the series. An absolute shame to the series, and the ONLY Resident Evil Game I never completed.

I simply can't imagine anyone preferring RE6 over RE5.

NovaCorps3018d ago

the only thing decent in res 6 was the early leon chapters and ada campaign that was it for me

iDadio3018d ago

RE6 truly was garbage, not as bad as Operation Racoon city in terms of being an actual game but still bad bad bad.

LrryLegend3018d ago

I'm glad I'm not the only who thought RE6 was garbage. Oh my goodness, I loved RE5 as well. Maybe I'm in the minority but RE5 was awesome (to me anyways). Heck I'd rather play Raccoon City than RE6, and that game was rough too.

fitfox3018d ago

agreed RE5 is a masterpiece compared to 6

Wintersun6163018d ago

IKR

Also I can't agree with RE3 being the third worst game. I've played 3 almost as much as I played 2. IMO both of them are better than 4. And this may be a very unpopular opinion, but in my eyes Code Veronica wasn't so good, I'd rate 5 higher than that game.

_-EDMIX-_3018d ago

nope. I rate zero RE games prior to 4 higher then the original format.

The pretty much stop even being Resident Evil games after 4.

Thus, RE3, Code Veronica in my eyes by DEFAULT are better then RE4, 5 and 6 as they are still Resident Evil games.

The concept of survival, limited ammo, limited health etc stops with RE4, thus its where I feel I can't rate any of those games better then the older format as they are not even the same titles, they might as well be spin offs.

I mean....it was anything but RE, the only thing about those that was even Resident Evil......was the name and characters.

For gods sake its just about a bunch of gray dudes shooting at you.....

_-EDMIX-_3018d ago

LMFAO! I knew Fox would see that and take a double take!

awi59513018d ago

I didnt like code veronica everyone says its the best. But it got too RPG based and very slow paced compared to the ones before. I played every RE game before code veronica but its the only one that bored me to death. I need to go back and play it and see if i would like it now.

fitfox3018d ago

I quite like code veronica but, i feel it has some balancing issues that do not plague the previous entries in the series.

callahan093018d ago

For me:

1) 2
2) 1
3) Code Veronica
4) 4
5) 3
6) 0
7) 5
8) 6

A lot of it is admittedly nostalgia. Played every single one at the time of their original release. Will never forget the experience of the first one, the 2nd was more of what was great about the first but better, the 3rd had my favorite plot and characters and was another nostalgia masterpiece for me. 3 and 4 are actually very close in my mind. Both were much more action-oriented than the previous entries in the series, and were a lot of fun. 4 gets the edge here though. 0 was a nice return to form but wasn't great in any particular aspect. 5 was a big departure, but still pretty fun. 6 was just not very fun for me.

CoDsuperstar3018d ago

my list is similar to that. swap code V and 3 and its perfect

showtimefolks3018d ago

resident evil 6 is the worst

resident evil 5 was borderline good game. the dumb AI partner kind of killed it

but make no mistake about it RE6 is the worst. there is a reason we have't seen or even heard about RE7. RE6 was sdo bad that capcom had to put in on hold and remaster old RE games to get fans excited once more

babadivad3018d ago (Edited 3018d ago )

I would put them in the order of.

1. Re2
2. RE 1
3. RE CODE V
4. RE3
5. Coin flip for RE 4-6

RE 4 was cool for the change of pace but it wasn't really an RE game*where are the zombies?*

I would rank 6 above 5 because I personally LOVED the co-op in that game *since I actually have someone to play with*. It was better done than what was done in RE5.

Also, all the characters felt unique in RE6, another thing that put it above RE5.

And lastly, it brought back zombies!!

PixelGateUk3019d ago

Resi 4 will always be my fave...mainly for that awesome controller on the Gamecube and Ps2 :)

Milkandcookies3019d ago

That game was phenomenal. Got ported so many times it's unbelievable haha.

Orejillz3019d ago

Yes, oh man that controller was so great

DefenderOfDoom23018d ago

Well, i can not rank RE games due to the fact i did not play them all . But i can say that RE 4 is in my top 10 list off all time . I have been playing video games since the mid 70's .

capitanandi3019d ago

The controls in RE4 and RE5 are some of my favorite in any game. Feels so satisfying in combat for some reason.

Milkandcookies3019d ago

I agree. They did a great job at keeping the sense of tanky motion restriction for tension but let you feel more mobile at the same time.

SlightlyRetarted3018d ago

Yes, no moving while aiming brought some tension and timing to the gameplay. Having to retreat just for you to get some breathing space to aim in peace.

Fez3018d ago

It's definitely a unique mechanic... I wouldn't like it in every game but it does add to the tension when being chased.

DirtyPete3019d ago

My hear is with RE4. That game hit at the perfect time in my life. Spent long hours playing and replaying that game.

Milkandcookies3019d ago

I lost weeks of my life on that mercenary mode. RE 4 was really something

Concertoine3018d ago

I still play RE4 every now and then. I can almost play it with my eyes closed at this point.

I would say:

REmake
Resi 2/4
Code V
Resi 3
Zero
Resi 1
5
6

fitfox3018d ago (Edited 3018d ago )

Good ranking but i would swap RE3 and code veronica

Number-Nine3019d ago (Edited 3019d ago )

Might be an unpopular opinion but RE4 isn't that great and was the beginning of the end for RE as we knew it.

dadano3019d ago (Edited 3019d ago )

I totally agree, while r4 wasnt a bad game it wasnt revolutionizing the survival horror genre but adding action and shooter elements which i would consider the base of the und of survival horror.

NovaCorps3018d ago

it was a revolution just for the camera up the shoulders thats about it...RES 2 still piss res 4 easily...but glad since in both these games leon was the protagonist ^^

Milkandcookies3019d ago

I think people fault RE 4 for being the last game before 5 and 6 to stick to the horror theme. RE 4 did a great job of bringing the series into the modern gaming world, the problem is that Capcom took the worst aspect of RE 4, the emphasis on action over fear and helplessness, and ran with it like mad men.

Good-Smurf3018d ago

20 minutes into the game and I completely forgot that I played a resident evil game, the feel just wasn't there,it was an amazing and revolutionary as an action shooter game though Wii version just pure gold with its almost 1:1 aiming controls!

Moe-Gunz3018d ago

I agree. RE4 wasn't that great and it marked the downturn for the series in my opinion.

_-EDMIX-_3018d ago

100000% agree! Most of the old school fans agree with that point over all.

RE4 isn't a bad game, its merely a bad Resident Evil game.

As an action game, sure its amazing!

Resident Evil game? God no!

Takes away limited saves, takes away limited ammo, takes away limited health and your not shooting a gray people, while they shoot back at you....

Its just no longer the same concept.

If anyone wants a true blend of survival horror that feels like RE4....Evil Within.

Evil Within easily being my favorite survival horror game of all time and really living up to the concept in full force.

The prevalence of parrying: Why is it so popular?

Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way.  Why?

gamespew.com
phoenixwing36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

Dudeson36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.

The 10 PSVR 2 Games You Should Own

If you're looking for 'must have' PSVR 2 games then look no further. These are the 10 titles every PSVR 2 owner should have in their library.

kevco3340d ago

If you're wanting more PSVR 2 support, you should probably buy all of these games.

Speak with your wallet!

Profchaos40d ago

Bit rich to have to buy games you don't want because you want Sony to support the expensive headset they sold us which cost as much as the console it runs on beyond paying third partys to support it.
Seriously in terms of first party we have horizon on day 1 and a gt 7 vr mode.

They seemingly have made little effort to support it beyond paying Capcom to make re games in VR or a second party studio to make firewall which was mismanaged.

I'm a day 1 psvr2 user and the only thing I'm excited for right now is PC support.

I commented recently this bespoke VR game development model we have right now clearly doesn't work

crazyCoconuts40d ago

On the one hand I feel like there's been plenty of smaller non-AAA games to play and occupy me as a supplement to my flat screen gaming.
But I agree that Sony has done nothing to elevate this beyond the niche it's in and into the mainstream where it would be economical to create AAA games for it.

Babadook740d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Most of these games are worth owning for most people; I own all but 2 of them in fact. So I agree with kevco33. I think you're crazy if you downplay this list quite frankly. Sony can't keep funding software if people don't buy any of it, the ball is squarely in OUR court.

Sony has spent a lot on 3rd party stuff this gen like RE.

phoenixwing40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Saving up for the headset is my first hurdle. Let alone buying games I don't want lol

mudakoshaka40d ago

People downvoting you for not having enough finances...what a world we live in, haha

phoenixwing40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

@mudako
They feel affronted at the very thought that I don't plunk down 500 immediately lol I have a little over 900 games in my backlog I've been buying games instead of hardware ever since I got my PC and ps5. I just don't know if vr is really for me honestly. Every time I have a couple hundred allocated to video games it makes more sense to buy a bunch of flat games instead of vr ones

mudakoshaka40d ago

I have 9 out of these 10 games. I try to buy all the VR games I like to support the advancement of VR!

TheEroica39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

I spoke with my wallet after watching the first headset get weak support. Easy pass until Sony earns my money. Feel bad for those who parted with 500 bucks, falling for the hype that Sony was actually gonna support this thing.

Neonridr40d ago

I own 7 of these titles off the list, lol.

NotoriousWhiz40d ago

I'm trying to decide if it's worth holding onto my psvr 2. I enjoy what it has currently, but it seems unlikely to get anything else. Might be better off just waiting for something with more support if that ever comes.

Profchaos40d ago

As a fellow psvr2 owner the question seemingly comes down to do you own a PC.

I think I'm all in I have a habit to hold onto my systems anyhow I still have my psvr1 to hell I still have my NES.

But while it's still worth something yeah you could sell it and if Sony turns the ship around you should be able to buy another one for less than you soldmit for I feel like we won't see any fix for the headset for the next 2 years rumours show that Sony has no current first party VR games in active development after they closed London studios

The whole psvr2 situation has left me feeling a little burnt on PlayStation as a whole to be honest. The first psvr felt experimental but it was supported far more than this superior headset

MIDGETonSTILTS1740d ago

GT7 surprised me, because I hate racing games, but i poured 100 hours into it way too quickly.

I’m looking forward to the Metro VR game this year, and I hope that WW2 dogfighter game releases eventually.

talocaca40d ago

I have most of them 😅

Waiting for a sale on Synapse and Arizona Sunshine 2.....also Metro coming this year looks great.

New Resident Evil 2 Remake Fixed Camera Mod Adds A Nostalgic Twist

A new mod brings the highly nostalgic fixed angles to the Resident Evil 2 remake, bringing the game closer to the original 1998 experience.
