After leaving Daybreak Games (formerly Sony Online Entertainment) in summer 2015 in the wake of a clash with a hacker, former studio head John Smedley has announced his next project. He's heading up a new game company called Pixelmage Games, which on Tuesday announced its first game, a 2D pixel art action RPG called Hero's Song.
Pixelmage is co-funding the game on Kickstarter, asking for $800,000 to help the project become a reality. The developer has already raised $1 million from private investors. The $800,000, should it be raised, will be used to finish development on Hero's Song.
Both John Smedley's and Anthem's Twitter accounts light up with possible E3 2018 teasers hinting at new incoming details.
When John Smedley was asked about what he thought about the health of the game industry, he was purely positive about the industry’s current status right now. With new jobs becoming available for those who wants to work in the industry, “it’s healthier than it’s ever been” according to John.
John Smedley has had a storied career in games, including the creation of EverQuest, the growth of Sony Online Entertainment, and the spinout of Daybreak Games as an operator of games like the zombie apocalypse online game H1Z1. He even tried a stint as an indie game developer, reliant on Kickstarter funding.
As a lover of 2D jRPG's, I will be looking forward to watching that game.
Yes love this, support this, and bring it to PS4 and ONE!
