Turok Deserves A Current-Gen Reboot

OnlySP: Some things never stop being cool. Dinosaurs are one such thing. Sixty-five million years since their extinction and they fail to get old. (well they were always old, but you get the point). In the wonderful world of gaming, there is only one thing more fun than dinosaurs and that is being given the ability to hunt them. Now I don’t know about you, but I think it’s high time that gaming’s favorite Dinosaur Hunter, Turok, got a brand new game worthy of his name.

As much as people didn't like the original reboot of the series for the PS3/360, I really liked the game. Granted, I was younger and I was hunting down dinosaurs...the story wasn't anything to write home about or anything, but at the time that was one of my favorite games. Kinda wanna replay it on PC just to see what I'd think of it now, considering that was how many years ago now?

I liked the PS3/360 reboot, the only part that I hated about it was the fact that I couldnt beat it, because of that damn T-rex at the end, right after it ate that Wolf Guy, that was terraforming the planet.

Played it on hard, I wasted at least 20 rpg rounds and 10+ rocket rounds from the the mount turrets. AND YET IT WOULDNT DIE

The original N64 version is king. I wish the concept art came to life, they looked nice.

Not many companies nowadays would be able to pull off its type of classic FPS gameplay, but I'd love to see someone actually try.

Funny how I stumbled upon this article after a Dino Crisis 2 play session.

Eldyraen3026d ago

Wolfenstein Devs probably could. It wasn't exactly like the classics but it is one of the better "old school" shooters with modern mechanics added on. Turok could use a similar treatment where it's old meets new. Besides even bigger companies it seems like a decent fit.

traqueia3026d ago

This is one of those games where gameplay speaks louder than anything else.

Many companies today would try to feed us loads of cg and lenghty storylines.

I just wish there could be more AAA games with full emphasis on gameplay just like the old days tbh

The_Eternal_one3026d ago

Turok 1 and 2 were amazing back on N64. Those were classic memories of gaming for me. It would be cool if there was a reboot and it was done properly.

DarXyde3026d ago

...And then, Turok Evolution happened. I agree the originals on N64 were good fun, but, at least to me, Turok may deserve a reboot, but I would counter with the question, "what did gamers do to deserve a reboot?"

I think Turok, like Duke Nukem, was better left in the past.

The_Eternal_one3025d ago (Edited 3025d ago )

True they are better left in the past. But a reboot wouldn't be a bad thing as long as it was done right.

AnubisG3026d ago

Just bring the Turok Remastered to PS4.

Turok: A Game Series in Need of a Reboot

The Turok series has been languishing without a new title for more than a decade. It's about time we got a reboot.

closed_account345d ago

I'm all for it, I loved the originals... I just don't think, just like w the original Prey, that the main character can survive in this current political climate. Native characters seem untouchable at the moment. I think it can be shown the right respect, but there's always someone getting upset about something these days, they would find a way to cancel it.

BriBri345d ago

I can't think of a game that's been cancelled because of the race of the main character.

Vits345d ago

Honestly, I would prefer if they just ported/remastered Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion to modern platforms. So we could have access to the "original 3 games". Because I don't see how to really reboot Turok. It's a product of its time being a mixture of platforming/fps and puzzle.

And I really don't see all those elements being preserved on a Reboot.

potatoseal345d ago

I would prefer Dino Crisis remake from Capcom. Still, a remade Turok would get my attention.

FreeckyCake345d ago (Edited 345d ago )

Forgets about the 2008 reboot*
I'd rather have a sequel to Turok 3, tbh.

GoodGuy09345d ago (Edited 345d ago )

We unfortunately do not have enough quality dino games. Theres Horizon but they're robots, and Monster Hunter that I can only think of. I'd like to see Turok make a comeback some day.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad597d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games
