Quantum Break has Risen Major Concerns

Quantum Break is set to be a big hitter exclusive for the Xbox One in 2016. The game has shown off some incredible footage and an interesting premise but there is something about it that is just down right annoying.

The graphics looks great for the very reason concerns are on the title. Is realism a sacrifice for the overall ideas on a game now a-days?

FlipSwitch3049d ago (Edited 3049d ago )

I think we also need to be concerned about the whole live TV Show element. It could be a disaster. I don't really want to play a game were I have to sit through a live acted segment afterwards.

Also I'm a bit concerned that they barely show any gameplay. Since the 1 level they shown a while back most of what has been shown are pre rendered cutscenes with quick shots of gameplay. Seems like they are trying to hide it

Hoffmann3049d ago (Edited 3049d ago )

Yeah. I bet this "game" is even more an interactive movie than games like until dawn or the telltale games.

Might become a big hit since basically everyone can "play" it though

Games that need less and less skill to play through are getting more and more popular these days.

AngelicIceDiamond3049d ago (Edited 3049d ago )

People like you @hoffman either troll or don't know anything.

This game NOTHING like Telltale Games and isn't anything like Until Dawn. Its a full Super Power game with Live Action TV segments.

Silly Mammo3049d ago

Read the Game informer article about this game. The TV show elements are a huge turn off for me. When I play video games I'd rather not have to sit through a 22 minute live action cutscene. This is purely my opinion. While some might really enjoy this type of thing, my game time is very limited and having to watch a TV episode instead of game play is a deal breaker.

Mikefizzled3049d ago (Edited 3049d ago )

Are you guys serious? There is ALOT more gameplay in this than any Telltale game or Until Dawn. Sam Lake has on multiple occasions said you can skip the episodes entirely. He is trying something new. Tested ever so gently with Alan Wake where he got Ilkka Villi to record some live action stuff for the game.

Scatpants3049d ago

Dude they showed like 30 minutes of gameplay. You must have just missed it.

Thatguy-3103049d ago

The thing that will make or break the title is how good the show is. Seeing how it's a big part of the experience.

NatureOfLogic_3049d ago

So Xbox fans don't like cinematic experiences but they are perfectly fine with TV TV TV?

donthate3049d ago

I see a lot of fear from core games about again the topic of "threatening gaming" as they know it. There is always this resistance that holds back gaming.

The natural marriage of tv show and gaming with deep story is what the entire industry has been working towards. Remember C&C with their live (yet cheesy) segments?

I welcome this, and if it burns it burns. That said, Remedy has never made a flop. They keep making hit games after hit games, so I have no reason to doubt them. All their staff seem intact, unlike other studios that have several key members leave.

Everything Remedy has shown is marvelous so I cannot wait!!!

crazyjuan773049d ago

I gotta /smh at concern trolling QB over gameplay. It's Remedy. Max Payne was a great narrative combined with an innovative bullet time mechanic that they pulled off first. Alan Wake again had great story and an innovative and copied light-centric combat mechanic. QB is going to be very good.

CartBlanche3049d ago

@donthate let me point you to Remedy's 2012 game Death Rally, which was released on PC, iOS and Android. Check Metacritic and you'll see that the game was essentially a flop. So your statement of "Remedy has *never* made a flop" is not accurate.

CartBlanche3049d ago

Unless done extremely well, live video cutscenes risk pulling you out of the Quantum Break universe during gameplay. They should have used the in game engine to keep the player immersed, IMO.

Cupid_Viper_33049d ago

Truth be told, the only thing any of can do at this point in time is speculate about how the game will play and such. None of us here has a good enough grasp on the game and its ideas as of yet.

The best course of action would simply be to just wait and see and judge the game after it's been released and we've played it.

The industry can't move forward if developers don't take risks and try new ideas....and that includes failing because not all new ideas and concepts will work. Nonetheless devs must be allowed to follow through on their visions and learn from their mistakes with sequels or new IPs etc...

Judge the game after you've played it.

DJustinUNCHAIND3049d ago

Yet you played through The Order and justified that malarkey.

DLConspiracy3049d ago (Edited 3049d ago )

No need for concern. Be it concern trolling or concern about having live segment's in the game. Games have story cutscenes in them. They are trying something a little new by putting both cutscenes and live TV. Remedy prides themselves on trying new things.

Also this Article is using hyperbole like "Major Concerns" to elicit fanboy rhetoric. I think it's far to early to damn a game and a developer who has a pretty great track record in story and gameplay.

@Hoffman

Kind of overdoing the assumption there aren't you?

@Nature of logic

"So Xbox fans don't like cinematic experiences but they are perfectly fine with TV TV TV?"

Please don't start that nonsense. Feels like you are jumping all over an assumption by throwing out vocal Minorities words in the mix.

DragonbornZ3049d ago

Guys you don't have to watch the TV portions. They already said you can skip them.

gatormatt803049d ago

You will be able to skip the TV episode cutscenes in Quantum Break.

http://www.polygon.com/2015...

whothedog3049d ago

This game reminds me of a max payne 3, infamous or the order from what they have shown. its a 3rd person shooter.

@angelic
what if i said this is similar to the order just without a tv show to coincide?

I dont know why people want to say this game is nothing that has been done before.

but after all that being said, rememdy is a great dev and I think their game will be good.

u4one3049d ago (Edited 3049d ago )

@hoffmann:

Not even close to what this game is. Its a regular action game with cutscenes being basically a tv show more or less.

FlipSwitch3049d ago

@DJustin.

Not sure what the order has to do with this article but at least most of the orders cutscenes were interactive. Not something which amounts to a live tv episode in the middle of a game that you sit and watch

xasz3049d ago (Edited 3049d ago )

@FlipSwitch

"I think we also need to be concerned about the whole live TV Show element. It could be a disaster. I don't really want to play a game were I have to sit through a live acted segment afterwards."

What would make this any different than cutscenes in other games?

Also, they said you can skip the live-action sequences.

"Also I'm a bit concerned that they barely show any gameplay. Since the 1 level they shown a while back most of what has been shown are pre rendered cutscenes with quick shots of gameplay. Seems like they are trying to hide it"

Trying to "hide" what?

Are you implying they're purposely making the rest of the game bad?

And did you somehow miss these?

@cartblanche

If you were any sort of gamer you would know that Death Rally is a mobile rerelease of Death Rally for MSDOS in the 90s. Which, at the time, was a flippen amazing game regardless of what Metacritic says.

People doubting QB at this point are obviously desperately reaching. Games got huge potential and is console exclusive, so makes sense.

CartBlanche3049d ago

For those disagreeing with my post about the poor performance of Remedy's Death Rally, see here http://www.metacritic.com/g... - 62 Average on MetaCritic.
I don't make up this stuff.
Just the facts Ma'am!

sammarshall1023049d ago

So you didn't see the whole 16 mins of gameplay Remedy showed with no editing

xasz3049d ago

@CartBlanche

Aren't you kind of reaching with this one?

That's a bad port of a freeware mobile game.

That's like trying to use Way of the Warrior as an example of why Uncharted 4 will "suck" or Wii Music as an example of why Zelda Wii U will be a bad game.

Kinda dumb, honestly.

3049d ago
whothedog3049d ago

you guys dont think it will be a good game? whats with the disagrees?

EyeAmTJ3049d ago

u must never played Alan Wake

joab7773049d ago (Edited 3049d ago )

This is a valid complaint. But shouldn't we wait to post articles like this until we actually see and play the game. Give them the benefit of the doubt...for now!

I do think that if the article was focused around selling a game based SOLEY on AAA star power, that would be legitimate, but b/c this hasn't been a real issue before, we should wait until we crucify them.

Yes, many publishers have done this b4, sort of, in a way, by using movies to sell games of low quality. But is anyone actually claiming that the quality of Quantum Break is bad? I don't think so. If a game like Uncharted did use Leonardo DiCaprio (which would be a HUGE story), would we criticize Naughty Dog despite how spectacular their games are?

We should wait in this case until it releases. We can be concerned about the TV side of things b/c Quantum is a left over of sorts from the Xbone original E3 2013 vision of DRM etc. But we shouldn't yet fall prey to hacking and slashing it's reputation until we see what's behind the curtain. If it's a short man that's been lying to us, then by all means, game on. Until then...I'll be playing Dark Souls 3. So let me know how this game turns out lol!

CartBlanche3048d ago

@martinstrings,@xasz I'm just presenting the facts from Metacritic. It's not my fault Remedy put their name to a bad port. Everyone also seems to ignore that it was also released on PC. I'm just countering the argument that they have "always" released great games. There is at least 1 exception, which I've backed up with a link. So don't shoot the messenger with facts, when someone makes a massive generalisation about Remedy being faultless!

n1kki63048d ago

Well the good news is you don't have to buy and play it if it's not your type of game

Raiden3048d ago

what is the difference between sitting down playing a game for 5mins and watching a cut scene for 20mins, I have seen that before oh, yes that's it METAL GEAR SOLID,

Dam, I hated that game from PS1 to now, those long ask cut scenes killed the enjoyment for me, but, millions loved it, so what's the difference between these 2 games one have live actors and the other is CGI, so to my point because it has live actors it a problem, but if it was just CGI it would not be, is that what you are trying to say, all I want is a good game 5-7mins cut scene I can handle, but not 20mins. I don't see a problem with the live actors and the author of this article should be looking at more worrying sign in the gaming industry than trying to cast doubt on a game that will be different and unique.

Leave the crappy interactive movie games to Sony.

3049d ago

rainslacker3049d ago

Some people like those crappy interactive games. I'd wager some of them even own Xbox One's. If it weren't for QB, I wouldn't have brought an X1, so they got one of those crappy Sony players to sign up months in advance with this crappy interactive movie, and I'm enjoying some other games on the system in the meantime.

Realms3049d ago

Why do some gamers do this the game will live or die by it's merits hopefully it lives up to the hype that so many people seem to be putting on this game.

REDDURT3049d ago

otherZinc3049d ago

What an incredibly stupid article. I mean, this is amazing. Assuming doom on a game, the author hasn't played is just stupid to me. This is an attempted hate article for someone that's never played the game nor seen an extended version of it.

Ridiculous!

Raiden3048d ago

I agree with you, 10,000% ATTEMPTED hate and badly done too.

2cents3049d ago

There is zero substance to this 'article'.
Just a lot of hot air and opinions of negativity.

This is remedy, the story tellers of the gaming world.
They are trying to achieve something new, something spectacular and something that crosses media.
Doesn't mean it will work but at least they are trying to do something different.

Well done on hating on people who are trying to do something a little different from the normal formula. Sometimes I wonder about some of these writers, why are they so driven to smear. SMH

_-EDMIX-_3049d ago

What does one have to do with the other? You do know that Remedy didn't just lay off all their designers in favor of just a group of graphic artist right?

They didn't just start making programmers and creative directors start making models or something.

I'm sorry but its just a uneducated and strange logic. If you had a game that had amazing gameplay........what does the part of the team in charge of the graphics have to do with the other team?

I mean.....are we saying games are made by 1 person that can only focus on so many things?

Some of you seriously need to research about game development before writing such stupid articles that defy real logic. Does this person even have any real evidence to support such a dumb claim? It sounds so childish and uneducated its not even funny.

Kalebninja3049d ago

Isn't it suppose to be like a TV show? Well that's how they work they put attention on the actors so I don't see what's so strange about it.

Kurisu3049d ago

I don't know much about it but I think there are live action cutscenes throughout the game. I'm really intrigued to see how it will turn out so I'm looking forward to playing it.

Kingthrash3603049d ago

I'm hoping it dosent take away the immersion or momentum of the game. Going from live action with live actors to I'm game characters can make or break a game. What if I don't like the acting?? Do I skip the story and blindly blaze my way through? If so I may as well play cod....skipping story for the gameplay and having no idea what's going on.

sammarshall1023049d ago

How would this be any different from skipping cutscenes in any other game

Sonyslave33049d ago (Edited 3049d ago )

What the f!!ck is this shet really QB going to be bad because it use famous actors wow really.

-__- Half these actors I don't even know it not like they are using AAA actors for games.

And the gameplay speak for it self unlike the The order 1866.

Axonometri3049d ago

Genius! Your view on Quantum Break is mind boggling.

Phunkydiabetic13049d ago

First of all, the "gameplay# (if you could call it that) of The Order did speak for itself and it was absolute shit. Second of all why would it HAVE to have AAA actors for it to be good? You realize there are many great actors out there that arent huge right?

Having said all that in reality the chances of this game actually being good and having all the tv bits tie in properly are really slim.

3049d ago
Phunkydiabetic13049d ago

@bruce755

Fanboyism? How? I (rightfully) talked shit about both consoles. I have a PS4. I bought The Order. It was horseshit. Just absolute overhyped horseshit. As for what I think of Quantum Break, hey, thats my opinion. I guess time will tell if it ends up being good.

I love how you clowns get so upset that someone said something negative about your console or game of choice and that person is a "fanboy". It is so pathetic.

BiggerBoss3049d ago

In both your comments here you feel the need to bash a Ps4 exclusive to defend Quantum Break. Are you not able to let the game speak for itself?

In my opinion the game looks great, the live action stuff does worry me though.

Phunkydiabetic13049d ago

Pfff I didnt defend Quantum Break. I pretty clearly stated I have low expectations of it. The whole live action tv show that changes based on your game decisions honestly sounds lame as hell. It probably wont work out well but whatever.

As for The Order the game is garbage. Have you played it? You spend half the game plodding around like an idiot rotating objects in your hand and liste ing to a story that is just soooo boring. The other half of the game you are in a sub-mediocre third person shooter. More like a shooting gallery actually. It is shit.

MCTJim3049d ago

I'm not concerned, I want more gameplay teasers. Yes I want to see more gameplay...then again, who doesnt want to see more gameplay?

LastcenuryRob3049d ago

So, according to the author of this article the most "annoying" thing about the game is that it apparently isn't his "type" of game....OK, thanks for that opinion.

15 Xbox Games That Should Make the Multiplatform Jump

Single A games and live service games. Those make sense

S2Killinit52d ago

None of it makes sense. But its happening.

Ps5conehead52d ago

That’s up to Microsoft they want return on there investment. From buying up those publishers. That’s what there in business for. And they made a mistake putting day one exclusive on game pass. So now Microsoft wants to profit any way they can.its called buisness . Just like Sony putting games on pc a year are two after ps5 launch.
So if they can make money off PlayStation and Nintendo. They will do that. And I bet soon real soon they will release some aaa exclusives .and I bet one day it will be same day release

Sony gamers begging for Xbox games.... Who would've thunk it?

BISHOP-BRASIL52d ago

Friendlygamer52d ago

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit52d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer52d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit52d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff218352d ago (Edited 52d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer52d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff218352d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper52d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal52d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood52d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff218352d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde52d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.

Alan Wake 2 studio Remedy Entertainment has reclaimed the rights to Control, and now sci-fi hit Quantum Break deserves the same treatment.

Totally agree with that especially when Quantum Break has several references to Alan Wake and Alan Wake make allusions to QB.
I do believe that MS and Remedy can work things out and MS has usually been nice to devs and publishers regarding IP.

Obscure_Observer68d ago

They can't "reclaim" what was never theirs.

Petebloodyonion68d ago

I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP.

Lightning7768d ago

MS is not doin anything with it. Plus they're doing a multiverse of their own so Remedy needs the IP.

If MS wants to have exclusive let it be timed for 6 months then go to other platforms. MS seems to be, let's say, generous with some if their games as of late.

Or have QB2 be multiplat from the jump, put it on GP. Keeping QB2 as an exclusive is kinda weird these days.

Obscure_Observer68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

@Petebloodyonion

"I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP."

Good luck

@Lightning77

"MS is not doin anything with it."

Japan Studio is dead nd Sony isn´t doing anything with Bloodborne either! Yet I can 100% guarantee that there´s a far bigger demand for a sequel, remake or even a remaster for that game from both PS5 and PC gamers.

That been said, why don´t you ask Sony tol sell the IP to Fromsoftware now that according to rumors, they bought Elden Ring from Bandai?

ZwVw68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Reclaim? That would mean that they actually owned the ip at one point, which they never did (MS always has). Apples & oranges. Remedy always owned the Control ip (just not the publishing), as they have with Alan Wake.

About as likely as them getting the Max Payne rights from Rockstar.

mastershredder68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Sending you game to a publisher does not mean they get "rights to own it " unless that was part of the contract (monetary/ strategic reasons). 505 was the publisher they worked with to publish and distribute it, it dos not mean that 505 flat out "owned" anything, clearly they did have a special arrangement that made them open to limit their publishing rights. and so here we are and big whoop

Jingsing68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Yeah get Quantum Break PS5, only if you put it on disc with all the associated movie material.

isarai68d ago

I mean they got the Alan Wake IP back from MS, so I feel like they could get QB back as well
