How Was The Xbox One’s 2015?

Pixelgate.co.uk writes:

''The Xbox One has been quite the interesting console ,but not exactly for it’s games. It’s initial DRM concepts had the masses up in arms. Stock market value took a hit in the surrounding time of the One’s reveal. Changes were made, opinions switched, yet Microsoft’s huge box is still a curious creation.''

It was a pretty good year overall and hopefully whats coming next is great.

I cant wait for Quantum Break/Gears IV/CupHead.

PixelGateUk3060d ago

I'm looking forward to Cuphead for sure. As for Gears, i'm pretty jaded with the franchise at this point. Will to be tempted back if it turns out promising

DarkOcelet3060d ago

This is one of the reasons i got the Xone so i wont miss out on it. And they actually listened to the fans. The fans wanted the game to be dark as hell and they showed us a dark as hell demo.

If they bring some new gameplay mechanics to the table, that would be awesome though and hopefully NO MICROTRANSACTIONS!

PixelGateUk3060d ago

Genuinely amused people are adding disagrees because I'm personally burnt out on Gears XD. I ain't saying it's a bad franchise rofl

List of exclusives I bought for Xbox one in 2015:

Ori and the Blind Forest
Halo 5
Gears of War Ultimate Edition

Quite a barren year in terms of console exclusives.

The new UI is pretty good. But there are still quite a few elements that need fixing and serious boosting.

Genuine-User3060d ago

I forgot to add Rare Replay to my list. So that's 4 games in total through out the year.

DarkOcelet3060d ago

Well, they have a good amount of exclusives next year so its gonna be awesome for both Console owners.

Genuine-User3060d ago

That's true. But I was speaking on the topic at hand.

Gazondaily3060d ago

Started off a bit empty but Ori was great.

Forza took things to a whole new level, Tomb Raider looks excellent and Halo 5's MP is an absolute blast to play.

A great 2015,mostly at the end of the Year. 2016 looks even better.

gangsta_red3060d ago

I agree, for the most part 2015 for Xbox One was very scattered and not to many exciting titles from MS released. There were games to play but they were mostly games found on all platforms.

It was an ok year for Xbox, but IMO not the best. Way too many titles got pushed out and that was a huge disappointment.

2016 looks to be the year where these consoles really start to shine.

ziggurcat3060d ago

i agree! next year is going to be fantastic! I am absolutely dying to play Quantum Break. Cuphead, and Inside (playdead are one of my favourite indie dev studios) are also going to be phenomenal.

jb2273059d ago

Right there with you...I don't have an XBO yet, but that lineup next year will certainly push me into one...PS4s is looking great as well, and if Zelda ships & they have other good plans then Nintendo is looking at some good titles as well...2016 is most definitely the year these consoles go from being "cool to have" to "absolute must have". I know it gets said every year, but even if half of 2016's content gets pushed to 2017, it'll still make for the best year yet on consoles imo. Finally getting titles that really cater to my tastes like UC4 & QB...Recore is sounding amazing, R&C will be a steal at $40, Mafia 3 as a great multiplat & Firewatch as a phenomenal looking indie...just games galore coming soon.

It was a pretty good one, good enough to make me change my mind about sticking with one console this year and buy one to sit alongside my PS4. Exclusive titles like Halo 5 and Forza 6 brought me back and games such as Ryse and Tomb Raider. The new interface is excellent, the tie-in to Windows 10 and the promise of more next year. It's a good time to be a gamer on XBOX One and PS4.

darthv723060d ago

Sometimes all it takes is one game to get a person to take notice, give it a try and before they know it they like what they are playing.

Wondering why they didnt give it a try sooner. I wish more people would do that with the wii-u. That is a great little companion system that deserves more sales.

Rookie_Monster3060d ago (Edited 3060d ago )

I give XB1 an "A+" this year.

-Great titles, great updates with the NXE, Windows 10, streaming at up to 1080p and 60fps.

-Backward compatibility is fantastic as it is not only a great fan service, but also those digital titles are being added twice monthly now on Xbox Live Gold and freebies are being bundled with AAA games like FO4, Just Cause 3 and Gears Ultimate.

-great lineup of highly rated games from Ori, to Gears Ultimate, Forza 6, Halo 5, and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

-showed previews of exciting new games for 2016 from new IPs such as Sea of Thieves (a non-Kinect titles from Rare in years), Scalebound, Quantum Break, Cuphead, Recore. To bring back classics like Crackdown that is displaying gameplay never seen before with Live Cloud compute, to revival of favorite IPs like Gears 4.

-released the best and most customizable controller ever made. http://i1376.photobucket.co...

An awesome year and 2016 looks even better. Time to jump in and be part of the fun.

iistuii3060d ago

I know several guys from work who like me went PS4 first this gen & have all got an Xbox One too now. Cant beat playing everything... On topic, I'm really enjoying the exclusives on Xbox One & also give it an A.

Activision team is opening a new game studio in Poland 'Elsewhere Entertainment' to build new AAA IP

Microsoft's Activision subsidiary announced today that it is opening a new game development studio to take advantage of the huge talent pool growing in Poland. It'll be the second Activision studio based in the region, joining Infinity Ward Krakow, although this studio is, in fact, not working on Call of Duty.

Microsoft's quest for short-term $$$ is doing long-term damage to Windows, Surface, Xbox, and beyond

Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's plans to increase every department's margins.

"The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is codenamed "Latitude" internally, and I know there's debate and unease at Microsoft about whether or not this is a good idea. More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed. At least for now, they're potentially obvious games you'd most likely expect. And yes, while it's true Microsoft is a prolific publisher on PlayStation already, it has typically revolved around specific franchises like Minecraft. From what I've heard, Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's mandate to increase every department's margins. "

Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware.

"Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware."

It's for the best.

Quit stringing along xbox fans and screwing over PlayStation owners.

crazyCoconuts1d 18h ago

Take good care of those Xboxes if you have 'em ...

outsider16241d 18h ago

An Xbox game on a Playstation. Never in my years of gaming did i ever thought this was gonna happen.

jznrpg1d 14h ago

It is dying anyway so doesn’t make much of a difference

VersusDMC1d 13h ago

No way can they get rid of the hardware as probably 90% of game pass subscribers are hardware users.

Highly doubtful those users will move to PC or Cloud to subscribe there and the competition (Sony and Nin) will never have gamepass on their system.

If they want to keep the current subscribers, they need to keep releasing new hardware.

PSPSA1d 5h ago

I'm not convinced, why then announce that they're actually working on the next-generation Xbox with “the largest technical leap”, and also looking into handhelds now?

Rols1d 4h ago

Not like MS don’t drop things a hot potato if it is not performing. Look at MS history to see products or platforms discontinued. Xbox is not a charity for MS, it needs to make money and the ABK was the last roll of the dice for Xbox.

purple1011d 2h ago

Xbox hardware team members have been incorporated into surface team

This perhaps shows they are not expecting big things from Xbox as a separate entity

Abear211d ago

Seems like they are planning to win next gen. All the acquisitions were this generation and nobody except Xbox fans expect games from the acquisitions any time soon.

I’m sure Microsoft can afford to lose money on the short term, pretty sure they do risk assessment when acquiring many companies and spending billions, they’ll be fine lol.

i think it will kill off the xbox brand. windows will be fine.

but there is and would be a chance that xbox might be killed off in the future. if they fail to make the money they put in. imo.

S2Killinit1d 22h ago

They wont kill it, but they will go fully PC while keeping xbox as a brand, and go multiplatform for the most part. They will also work tirelessly to diminish console gaming’s importance.

PRIMORDUS1d 19h ago

It would be best if Xbox goes the way of Sega, just make and publish games. I know I myself will not support them at all with buying games from them, you all can. 🙃

ChasterMies1d 17h ago

The Xbox brand will live for the games. I don’t expect Microsoft to entirely drop out of gaming hardware. They make Surface tablets and laptops. They’ll make Xbox branded hardware for those that want it.

Forza and Starfield next?

ocelot071d 22h ago

I'm hoping for age of empires

Skuletor1d 22h ago

Starfield would be no surprise and there's the rumor that it will come to Playstation after the Shattered Space DLC, Forza (along with Halo and Gears of War) I find less likely but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually end up on PlayStation too, especially if Xbox give up on hardware and go the Sega route.

shinoff21831d 22h ago

Not to worried about forza. I'd rather see others like what inxile and obsidian are working on. Starfield sounds like it needs more time in the oven so let it cook first imo. If starfield and it's a small if does release on ps it'll be in the fall around the time for dlc or right at the dlc and come packaged with it.

In the words of Phil Spencer when he was talking about Nintendo last year

“It's just taking a long time for Microsoft to see that their future exists off of their own hardware"

S2Killinit1d 22h ago

Yup. MS are a cancer to console gaming.

Aloymetal1d 21h ago

100%!!
I wonder what happened to that dude that was always here posting those court articles with cartoons about MS spending all those billions in studios. He suddenly disappeared, I guess he doesn't like bad news when the green brand is in trouble. No new articles from him as of late...

PRIMORDUS1d 19h ago

Yup, and it's only going to keep spreading.

Outside_ofthe_Box1d 19h ago

Phil Spencer's words always comes back to bite him lol

Microsoft's Absurd Antics Have Me Scared For Dishonored And Arkane Lyon's Future

With Arkane Austin no more and Lyon living for who knows how long, the superb Dishonored is in serious danger; Microsoft cannot be trusted.

Relientk773d ago

I love the Dishonored series so much and really want Dishonored 3. Microsoft better not screw this up.

JEECE3d ago

I mean, I think the fans will probably kill Arkane Lyon by cooking up reasons to hate whatever they do next without playing it. I've never seen a game so artificially disliked as Deathloop.

thesoftware7303d ago

Lol, why don't we just say, we are worried about all studios owned by MS now. They will keep closing studios until they have none left ...🙄

Skuletor3d ago

Just merge them all into a single studio, have it churn out a single Call of Duty every year and call it a day, lol.

Barlos3d ago

Don't be scared, you'll be fine.

Skuletor3d ago

It's exputer, fine is one word I would not associate with them.

Profchaos3d ago

I think it's becoming clear based on matt bootys comments there's no future for any IP that can't sell above 10 million within the launch window. But is also a small game that gives them prestige

/S it's beyond a joke right now
