The Growth of The PS3

November 17, 2006 was the date the U.S. got its hands on Sony's next generation console. The first immediate reviews of it were too expensive, lack of games, and just a blu-ray player. Later that year, the PS3 was given the number-eight spot on PC World magazine's list of "The Top 21 Tech Screwups of 2006," where it was criticized for being "Late, Expensive, and Incompatible." What kind words PC World. Many that the fate of PlayStation was doomed, but their was still a lite at the end of this very dark tunnel.

The PS3 is coming on really strong this year, I really can not wait for LBP and R2. Sadly I probably will not have enough time to play any games besides these two (except maybe a couple of PSN titles).

The 360 aswell has a ton of great titles to match the ps3 lineup but there are 2 games that the 360 will not be able to match this year even with gears 2 and fable 2 as big exclusives for there system and those 2 titles are MGS4 and Little Big Planet. These 2 games are the games that set the ps3 lineup for 2008 over the 360.

The PS3 has had a bad start at launch and even with all the critisism and all against the ps3, it has managed to comeback and tell every analyst and hater out there, that we aint going out like no punks. This year is a great year for ps3 and 360 owners in softwares. Also the wii aswell is doing very well but despite its great sales over the ps3 and 360, there lineup falls short and doesnt stand a chance vs ps3 and 360 games when it comes to quality titles.

The crazy thing about all this is even with the edge the ps3 has over MS this year with its lineup, 2009 is an even crazyer year for sony and its lineup looks even stronger and with the release of home, it only will get better and a price cut. This year my prediction is sony will win this year over the 360 and next year towards the end of 2009 the ps3 will finally have caught up with MS in sales. Book Mark me on my prediction, and if it doesnt happen I will admit ownage. :)

I'm not to sure clinton about Gears2 and Fable2 not holding up against LBP and MGS4 in software sales. I think I will just play the wait and see approach to see what happens but have a feeling MS will come out on top.

Im not talking about sales, im talking about games that will not only deliver a gaming expirience u wont find in most games and also living up to its hype.

U see all that hype that MGS4 had? Even with all that hype surrounding it, MGS4 lived up to all that hype and some. LBP seems to be in that trend aswell and people want more of it. The difference with LBP though is it will last u a very long time to come especially with all the consumer creativity gamers will be sure to have tons of hours creating all sorts of levels and enjoying other peoples levels at the same time.

Gears 2 seems like it will live up to the gameplay area of the game but will it deliver as a whole expirience as MGS4 has brought to us for example with great gameplay, great sound, great graphics, great storyline, and great replay value to just keep the expirience going for fans. MGS4 delivered in all these areas and is a reason it got so many perfect scores around the board.

Thos are going to be tough tasks for those 2 games to live upto. Am I counting them out though? No we wont know until we have played those games. But as of right now MGS4 is the best game u will find this next gen. Its not for everyone but as a complete package, MGS4 delivers in every way u can possibly want in a game period. As for LBP I think ill let Game Critics speak for LBP which is all the known gaming sites around the globe awarding LBP as the, "Best Console Game" of E3.

Yeah I see where your coming from and LBP is definitely an exciting looking title. Still it all boils down to preference and what you like as a gamer. There are many people that don't care for MGS4 just like Gears so who are we to say what game is the complete package period? Just because we think something's great doesn't mean that it's great to everyone.Some people are really looking forward to GEOW2, Fable 2, Viva Pinata2, and Banjo. I would love to say Sony has the most promising line up but can't because it looks about even with what the 360 is offering. Let's just hope Little big planet sells well because if not that would suck for them.

Dis-agree all you want, but all you have to do is take a logical look at the hardware, the software, and the company, and you will have your answer. Sony is a giant no one can beat. Quality can't be beat. You can try to beat it by rushing out hardware and buying last gen exclusives all you want, but the fact remains...if you are a console, you want to be a PS.

If the PS3 is all that ( best hardware, softrware, etc ) why is it that it has the lowest attach rate of it's generation (360=7.5, wii=5.4, ps3=4.7)? Even if the xbox 360 can be hacked to play pirated copies, witch don't count for the sales of games. the ps3 has only 8 games that sold over 1 milion copies, against 28 for the xbox 360, witch is more than 3 times more. i really don't see how the ps3 is all that great, even ps3 owners don t know it because there not buying the games.

thing people were really complaining about was that blu-ray was in question of winning its format war and people tought it would turn out like UMD for psp - but it didnt and it won and blu-ray is now a big plus for movies & ...gasp gaming too.

the other thing was price, after the price cut people started buying it, and once as always the price gets lower the people will buy especially when the ps games they played last gen make it to the ps3 like mgs4 for example

Their console truly is starting to live up to the hype. Took too long though and the term "potentialstation" will exist forever in memory of the PS3 and its early blunders. Sony needed to rebound, and they have. Thing is, we're starting to climb towards the peak after slowly slugging it out in the valley. The PS3 is here to stay folks, lookout come LittleBigPlanet.

Everything on 360 worth owning you can play the better version on PC. We can all agree that Gears is the best game on 360 and yet the better version is on PC. PS3 is where the real exclusives are and you can only get them on PS3 where as 360 exclusives you are getting the crappier version because gears, mass effect, halo are all better on PC...

You are actually living breathing proof of a hypothesis I have been considering for a while now. My hypothesis is that no matter how many games are released on the PS3 or what their quality is, people are never going to stop saying that there is nothing to play on it. Their are quite a lot of good games on it including some real gems like Uncharted and Warhawk.
If you truly can find nothing to play either you are a hardcore RPG fan (in which case your complaint is reasonable) or you spend so much time gaming that you have beaten every game on it worth beating on the system (if this is the case you should probably get out more anyway). Still if thats your opinion then thats fine, just make sure you are not letting your first impressions of the machine affect the way you see it in its current state, it could make you miss out on a great opportunity.

You seem to live in the past with your quote at fist the Ps3 was blasted with High price and no real big games to its but they seem to destroy this with a ton of great games that have surfaced and are in the future and a price drop so they changed that problem. The 360 s past was blasted with RROD but have yet to fix this (E3 2008 proved this).. The PS3 is just beginning tapping into the power it has and still has years to go 360 i feel has or will be very soon reaching it s limit thus being a problem for hard core gamers who want wicked graphics great game play and so on..

I understand that this is an opinion-based website, but some people who post here are just way off base on both sides. THe PS3 is a great machine, with alot of great features, as well as the Xbox 360 is. They both have something to offer us as gamers. For PS3 owners, you NEED the xbox to do well; can't you see that? Competition breeds innovation, just as the Xbox NEEDS the Playstation. If you made a choice to buy just one console, just be happy with your purchase. No need to downplay someone else's choice because it was different than yours. I would suggest that if you can afford it, purchase all three:)

I hear you man. The other night at Madden 09's midnight release, I was standing in line waiting early. This annoying clerk girl at Game Crazy shouted who's getting it for 360 and tons of people raised their hands. She then asks who is getting it for PS3 and a few people raised their hands. Then some people up in the front start talking smack about PS3 being useless and only good for a grill.
Also the next day I went back to get a different copy of Madden, because it was defective. I asked if they had any other returns for it. And he proceeds to tell me the PS3 sucks and that he has both and all he uses his PS3 for is the blue ray. I asked him if he knew that he could do a few cool things with it. And he just looks at me like I'm a jerk, and says "Yeah, I know everything about it".
I never once asked for his opinion on the PS3

Any one who denies that the PS3 is starting to roll needs to just stop being biased against Sony as a company. With that being said, I own a PS3 and LOVE IT!!! I love everything that it can do. I still to this day keep finding out about new things I can do with it. It literally is the entertainment hub of my families house. We stream movies and TV from our computer. I love the games I have played. (we all know that there are some good titles for PS3 now, stop denying this fanboys) Now with that being said I don't own a 360 but I would like one. The point being JUST BE A GAMER FOR THE GAMES. If you deny a game its due credit just because it happens to be on the console of your particular distaste.
