Man we really dove into that Ni no Kuni character origin switch a lot longer than I thought anyone could have. Sucks that the Yakuza 0 localization news got overshadowed by this multi-part remake business.

We do not know what they meant by that. Square's words can be lost through translation. I wont bash it unless i see more details and see how the game will be like.

I still think what they meant by multi-part is a trilogy or more games.

No one has said it's episodic. If you wanna call it that, we need to change the meaning of episodic in games. It's going to be nothing like tell tales and it's kind which is what episodic games are.

Yeah but without those 'haters' we have zero chance of letting SE know that we don't want to play FF7 in episodic parts, either by gameplay or financial reasons. In contrast I really thank those who speak openly of their disagreement in SE plans, even though nobody knows the whole story of it except SE themselves. By that I hope SE rectify their plans or just clarify it more to the western gamers of what it really is about. If it turns out to be just a moneygrabbing crap, we can always have the forums to listen and don't buy the game..

Yep couldn't agree more. Also getting tired of people going on about it probably not being turn-based. I'm currently playing through the original again on PS4 as its one of my favourite games, and I'm pretty sure the story is the thing that carries the game, not the battle system.

As long as they get the story right with the remake I'm sure I'll be more than happy.

I question whether you have actually ever played it even though you say it's your favourite. FFVII has probably the most complex battle system in the entire series, definitely the most customizable bar none. The story, frankly, doesn't carry it.

What? FF7 is my favorite game of all time and the battles were it's weakest point, imo. The battle gameplay definitely is not what made this game so popular. You're straight up delusional if you think so.

It was the unique characters, story, setting, etc. This game is not so popular because of the battle system. Just look at all of the famdom online. The battle system is barely talked about outside of materia. What you know people always talk about? The characters, story, setting, etc.

We get it, you don't like the changes. But don't twist everything to fit your agenda. It's a tad pathetic.

It's a mixture of the two but I lean towards the story, world and characters as what makes ff7. If they were to change the story then it wouldn't be ff7.

You DO understand, DragonKnight, that the Materia system was not the battle system. The battle system was hardly different from the game that followed it or, from what I recall- which is admittedly vague, now that I think of it- the one that preceded it.

Materia was an intricate part of the battle system, but it was not the battle system, itself. For whatever reason, you and others around the net seem to be under the impression that only a virtually perfect replication of the turn-based system originally present in 7 would allow for the use of Materia and Limit Breaks. That's rather shortsighted, don't you think?

I feel the customization was certainly the most complex in the series with materia and all, but the battle system itself wasn't overly complex. It was rather straight forward to be honest. Select an attack or magic command, occasionally use a limit break, maybe try to line things up for some massive damage, and gaurd when needed. If all else fails, call in an OP summons and be on your way. It was all fairly typical for it's time, but the customization of it all made it into something unique, because it did offer different ways to play.

Having said that, it's not episodic. It's nothing like episodic. You don't like ff but call it a disaster?? The trailer showed it to be just like the original in terms of the world. The trailer showed they've created an updated Midgar. It feels like Midgar and the characters were captured so well. If you don't like ff then all of that is lost on you. That in itself is not a problem but throwing around dumb terms like disaster is silly in that respect.

I'm not saying complaining is wrong. I think it's perfectly fine and acceptable. However, complaining when there is barely any info is ridiculous to me. Nothing self-righteous over here. When they clearly show what is going on I think that is the time to voice your concerns.

Also complaining about complainers for the sake of complaining is far from what I did. 1) I wasn't complaining, rather I was making a statement about gamers' reactions to this specific game. 2) "for the sake of complaining" part is wrong when I gave my reason for feeling that gamers are whining pre-maturely.That reason is in the second sentence. Sure they have a right to criticize. The whining comes in when they go around calling others "not true FF fans" or "sheep" or any other insult they can think of to try and feel like they are right.

They aren't willing to discuss anything other than their view, and if you have a different view, they won't even listen to what you have to say. That's not constructive discourse born from criticism, that's just whining and throwing a tantrum hoping others will agree with them because they want to be heard.

The problem with SE is that they are one of the most tight-lipped devs in existence and that very thing causes them harm because they always cause controversy by releasing as little information as possible and just pissing everyone off.

I think they're open enough. I have noticed at times though, they do announce something, or list a feature or something, and then leave it at that. Since they tend to release the information using buzzwords which instill certain images in people's heads, people react negatively to that, which is only compounded by the discontent that people have for them over their actions last gen. Then they don't bother to really clarify that often, but when they do, people who hated before, don't listen to that clarification that often, and go on for months whining about it until the next thing comes along for them to be pissed off about.

Just my observation though. Obviously it's generalized and not applicable to all situations.

I honestly can believe people were expecting to get FF7 with prettier graphics! I really dont see what all the fuss is about! The game looks damn fun and I cant wait to play it!

People really are just stuck on Nostalgia... if you want to play the same game go buy the classic one on steam, PS4.

At that point, I'd express my distaste and move on. Nothing more for me to see there. No reason to keep hating, just learn to live with the disappointment.

Kind of wish some others in these threads could do that now. Maybe if they did, they may end up coming around later when more information comes out, but the longer they go on, the harder I imagine it would be to eat crow when they realize it's not what they're complaining about.

Not that a MMO based in the FF7 universe wouldn't be awesome, but that's not exactly a FF7 remake.:)

I played and completed the whole game this week(remastered ps4 version), for the first time ever.. and I have to say, the world of ff7 is hefty and hard to translate into a modern game... so many shops/places to visit, so many worlds to go to, so many side-games, events and routes that can be taken; its almost mind-boggling... I feel like that the only way to recreate this game in one release would be to keep everything the same (the world size, transition framework between them, the camera).. but doing that would just make it a ... remastered version (with modern graphics)... not a remake (which requires much more)
