Russian to sue computer company after 3-week-long gaming session led to loss of job & wife

A Siberian gamer is suing the makers of Fallout-4 after he lost his job and broke up with his wife because of the video game. He wants 500,000 roubles (US$7,000) in compensation from the company, saying he did not know the game would “become so addictive.”

ZaWarudo3086d ago

I thought this was satire. Wow, man.

thekhurg3086d ago (Edited 3086d ago )

Imagine how bad things would have been had he played a great RPG!! Just be thankful this happened in a Bethesda game instead.

Randostar3086d ago

What does your comment even mean?

FPS_D3TH3086d ago

Must be hard going full retard

UnHoly_One3086d ago

Khurg give it up already.

You don't need to come into EVERY fallout article and tell us about how much you don't like it.

We get it. Go play something else and quit regurgitating the same nonsense.

Jyndal3086d ago (Edited 3086d ago )

You have no idea what a RPG even is.

seanpitt233086d ago

Don't let him play the witcher 3 then because that tops fallout 4 in every category.

frostypants3086d ago (Edited 3086d ago )

@seanpitt23, well, except for combat, interesting exploration, environment interactivity, and actually being able to create a character. But yeah, Witcher 3 has better...graphics. So it's got that going for it. It's got a more developed story too, if you're into cliche fantasy stuff.

BluFish3086d ago

Don't cut yourself on all that edge.

Ocsta3086d ago

He's being a troll. An unfunny, unsuccessful troll.

KwietStorm_BLM3086d ago (Edited 3086d ago )

Damn that was lame lol

Apollosupreme3086d ago

I am imagining how much I'd be laughing right now if you were actually funny.

Eterna1Ice3086d ago

Lol, you've baited so many people, nice job.

SolidStoner3085d ago

well that only means that his wife was more boring then Fallout 4..

I have to admit, I my self played Fallout 4 for straight 3 weeks (9 days gameplay time). Exploring and unlocking stuff is very addictive to our brains! Brains like new unexplored stuff! :D

MajorLazer3084d ago

This guy can go **** himself! What an utter moron, only has himself to blame for his losses. The fact this lawsuit is even being entertained is a sad reflection of society itself.

Fin_The_Human3086d ago

As ridiculous as this sounds he might win.

One guy just got rewarded millions from Red Bull because it did not give him wings and some time back someone sued Burger king because the coffee cup fell on them and burnt them.

3086d ago
mixelon3086d ago (Edited 3086d ago )

The McDonald's case made sense. The coffee was heated to a ridiculous extent (180 degrees) causing *really* bad burns requiring surgery, and someone needed to pay the medical bills. They ruled that coffee shouldn't ever be heated to such a crazy temperature, and nobody could realistically expect to happen even if the accident had been their fault.

OpenGL3086d ago

Everyone always misquotes the coffee thing. The woman was in her late 70s and she had second and third degree burns resulting from the coffee being much hotter than it is supposed to be by McDonalds standards. She requested McDonalds to cover only her medical bills and they refused, which is why she sued them.

If you've ever seen the pictures of her injuries, they were quite serious.

MrBlais3086d ago

Mixelon, you do realize all coffee shops 'currently' serve coffee at 210°, right?

joab7773086d ago

It was McDonald's and I believe she was burned pretty badly. Yeah, Red Bull settled for 13 million to avoid further litigation.

He could definitely win, or win in the sense that Bethesda simply sttles out of court. Better stay away from that wife until ya get paid buddy. Better believe someone will be watching.

fiveby93086d ago

Also tat particular McDonalds was warned on multiple occasions prior to the 'incident' that they were serving coffee which was 'too hot'. I know, still seems like a frivolous lawsuit, but is what contributed to the jury verdict. As for suing Bethesda, GL with that. The plaintiff is not going to win that case.

yomfweeee3086d ago

Your Red Bull thing is wrong as well. They weren't sue over the wings crap. They were sued over the claims about performance and energy. Also it was a class action lawsuit, so no one got millions (other than the lawyers).

Lukejrl3086d ago

interestingly the macdonalds coffee lawsuit was simply for the old womans medical bills- the jury awarded punitive damages based of the pictures- for her burned pelvis, including her vagina. the reason the plaintiff won was because macdonalds heated coffee to go to 115 degrees celsius, where eat in coffee was usually at 97 degrees. they only wanted her medical bills because of her insurance situation. in canada there would not have been a lawsuit as her medical bills would have been covered.

yomfweeee3086d ago

So much misinformation here about the McDonald's case.

The coffee wasn't any hotter than normal in her case. They have since made the warning clearer and also changed their cups. They still serve their coffee at the same temperature.

hesido3085d ago

LukeJR, I don't think Coffee can go much higher than the boiling point of water (it would be slightly higher, but not by 16 degrees), unless under pressurized conditions.

nitus103085d ago

@mixelon

I assume the temperature you game us was in Fahrenheit since most people and since most people in the world use Celsius or Centigrade (ie °C), I will do some conversion for you.

180°F is equivalent to 82°C which for coffee or tea is not that hot although to be fair you don't really want it poured on you since at that temperature it will burn human skin.

Lets put things in perspective shall we. The boiling point of water is 212°F or as the rest of the world knows 100°C which is what you get when you use a kettle to boil water.

Basically if you use a simple electrical kettle to boil water for say a cup or instant coffee or even tea you will have fluid in your cup at close to 100°C although that will cool down if you put in ice cold milk.

For most people in the world having a hot beverage at 80°C or even higher is not a problem in fact in colder countries it is welcome providing you don't spill it on yourself since the burn temperature of the human skin is between 50°C and 60°C or for those who still use the obsolete Fahrenheit scale 120°F to 140°F.

Having a "hot??" beverage at the so called skin burn temperature is normally insipid to the majority of people and as I have mentioned for most people around the world a hot beverage is normally one that is anything from 80°C to 95°C you just have to be careful and not spill it on yourself.

Good grief when I make tea or coffee I normally boil my jug to 95°C (203°F) and unless I have milk (coffee only) I can sip the beverage without burning myself and I don't consider myself any different to over 7.3 billion humans on this planet.

nitus103085d ago

@Lukejrl & @mixelon

Sorry under normal earth atmospheric pressure you cannot heat water to over 100°C (212°F) since it will all turn to steam. Even boiled water will cool a few degrees even when placed in a thermal container.

When people boil water under normal conditions for say instant coffee or tea the water will most likely cool to approximately 85°C to 95°C which depends if you add an additional liquid such as lemon or milk.

Keeping things in perspective the burn temperature of the human skin starts at 45°C upwards and even then severity of the burn is dependent on the length of time of the exposure.

For most humans we can quite easily sip a hot beverage up to 95°C although it is never a good idea to spill a really hot beverage on ourselves since burning can occur within a second at the high end.

Drinking a hot beverage at 82°C (180°F) and above is considered quite acceptable and desirable especially for those living in colder climates by the majority of human adults on this planet.

Lukejrl3085d ago

Thanks for the science corrections. I watched the documentary long ago and I must have garbled the numbers in my head. I know 100 celsius is boiling point of water. I just figured it was under pressure in their machines. But it doesn't make sense.

ArchangelMike3086d ago

Yeah right!?! I hope this gets laughed out of court. You can love video games as much as the next man, but you can't blame video games for your mental or psychological issues. People who have social behaviour disorders, or addictive personality disorders should be very careful when playing video games; since they are more likely to get addicted, or to act out what is presented in the video game.

The media will get hold of the story and it'll be "big bad video games" that are to blame, instead of recognising that unhinged people are unhinged, and can be triggered by a variety of stimulating factors, be it depression, alcohol, drugs, sex, video games or any other vice that's out there.

rainslacker3086d ago

Media isn't going to report on this. It would open up the doors for all sorts of frivolous lawsuits because it can be applied to any media. I can't think of the last lawsuit or gaming addiction story that got picked up by the media. We get several a year, more often than not people dying for neglecting their health.

ninjahunter3086d ago

Lol, get the judges reaction on camera, its going to be great.

Relientk773086d ago

Omg put it on Judge Judy lol

BallsEye3086d ago

Sounds like promo campaign. Done many times.

Gardenia3086d ago

Same as that guy who "was playing Fallout 4" when a car drove into his apartment. Why would you tell in an interview what game you were playing, or even that you were playing a game?

Tapani3086d ago

Hopefully this guy learns a lesson, but also gets help, because he needs it. Downward spirals in life are not a subject of joke.

This does prove that Fallout 4 is one hell of a game, though!

awi59513086d ago

He's russian i'm sure it was the Vodka that got him fired. And he maybe kept beating his wife during a Vodka induced rage lol.

AnubisG3086d ago

So let me get this straight. According to you all Russians are alcoholics who beat their wifes?

iceman063086d ago

Hoooraaay for stereotypes!!!/s

awi59513086d ago

Just get on youtube and type in, now in russia, its so funny lol.

How nice of them to give us more control over graphical settings as a way to *completely* avoid taking accountability for the broken Xbox settings.

bondsmx17d ago

Well, I still crashed like 5 times last night within two hours. So there’s that.

anast16d ago

I had to stop. The game is not good. I'd rather play Skyrim and that game isn't that good either.

I Think It's About Time We Realize Fallout 4 Wasn't That Bad

Ahmed from eXputer: "2015's Fallout 4 received harsh criticism upon launching, but I think it was unwarranted and the game deserves more praise than it got."

helicoptergirl22d ago

It was totally that bad. I couldn't finish the campaign it was so bland and boring as I recall. Got so sick of it. 1000 stimpaks on hard. It is very rare that I play half a game and then just quit. I usually always finish it. But i was so bored with this game I just stopped and never went back and never regretted it. Just thinking about that game makes me shudder

Furesis22d ago

That's exactly what happened to me too lmao
Fallout 4 is not a fallout game period it's a bethesda game

Vits22d ago

The comparison with Skyrim is mind-boggling. Yes, Skyrim has streamlined many of the systems that Morrowind introduced. However, it did not tamper with the core of the Elder Scrolls franchise; it did not diminish the freedom and sense of exploration that made Bethesda RPGs famous. Fallout 4, on the other hand, did exactly that to the Fallout series. It eliminated what made Fallout such a beloved series to play. There are no consequences for your choices, no reason to explore, and barely any interesting set pieces in the game.

It's not terrible, but it's a painfully mediocre game in a franchise that typically doesn't produce such mediocrity. So that is why people see it as bad, the bar is just much higher.

anast22d ago

They both feel the same because they are, it's just that one has swords and magic and the other has swords and guns.

anast22d ago

I'm replaying it now. It sucks. I'm about 30 hours in and thinking about quitting again. I am so tired of the dialogue I just spam a random button because it doesn't matter. The upgrade just feels like a graphical mod, everything else is not good.

Good-Smurf22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

I couldn't play the game as-is it was insanely boring and grindy and the grind itself are not fun at all.
Mods helped me stomach the game a bit better but after a while I just stopped playing and uninstalled it because the game did nothing after the first few hours to give me any motivation to keep playing it, it just became a mindless looter shooter with obsession in settlement building and defending.
Compared to F3 and FNV, F4 was barely a mediocre game it wasn't bad but it's also very forgettable entry.

MrDead22d ago

It's not that bad after 300+ mods that fix it's issues and make the game fun... but lets not talk about mods right now as they are f****d.
