I think the collaboration between the two was there since Ps1 days.

But now, they've just made it official.

Here's hoping that Konami continues its trend of making stupid decisions and sells off the Mgs franchise so Kojima can buy what rightfully belongs to him.

I have a feeling konami wont sell him the rights to the MGS series because if he creates an exclusive heavily story driven mgs game then omg microsoft would really be in big big trouble and im pretty sure they wont sell it to him just to mess with him.

They'll sell it to him for the right price, that price will likely be ridiculously high, so it could be a while before Hideo can afford it, unless Sony foots the bill for it and Kojima pays them back over time.

Konami will never make anything up to par with a true MGS game on their own, unless they can partner up with some other talent, but it would still never be a true Metal Gear game.
They'll probably stay on the Revengeance style of game or just clone the kind of stuff Hideo's made before, but tweak the stories a bit to make it seem fresh.

MGS should definitely be in Kojima's ownership, I also hope that those people he considers his family at Konami can leave their evil dictatorship and join the KP+SCE family, to make beautifully, awesome Video Game goodness!!!

Kojima could do a Siren/P.T. inspired styled game. He could do something completely different also. The thing thats in my mind though is, what if Kojima resurrected the Syphon Filter series. Wasn't that game suppose to be an answer of sorts to the Metal Gear Solid series when it first started? Kojima could take that storyline in a new direction and flesh it out even more. A sort of reboot like the new Tomb Raider games. A fresh new look with up to date graphics, engrossing storyline with lots of plot twist and OMG-WTF moments, and some unique characters. Thats just one mans opinion though, or maybe i read it somewhere.

Wait, I thought people hated it when companies buy exclusivity. I don't get it. What's different. What makes this acceptable. I'm so confused. I don't get gamers. I know they know what they're thinking though and are always honest good people and never entitled a-holes.

Nonsense. People hate it when Microsoft gets anything. The Tomb Raider re-boot sold plenty of copies on Xbox the last time. It would have sold plenty this time if it hadn't been for the ignorance of the vocal few and the spinelessness of the sheep- like gaming community. Kojima needed money and he could have gotten it anywhere. He didn't have to go to a gaming company at all really. He could have gone to a VC venture or a bank and gotten a loan. But the industry allows itself to be manipulated by a few clowns.

Maybe Microsoft should leave gaming. It might teach the clowns and their sheep a lesson. They'd get their PlayStation exclusivity. But they'll get perpetual generations, middling hardware, few price cuts. No BC , just PlayStation Now with high prices and what BC you do get you'd pay for. Sony would jack up the price on one of the few dependable segments to pay the upkeep of failing segments like movies and music. You'll see the love.

This doesn't seem to be Sony "buying exclusivity" as much as Sony actually helping to fund & create the game w/ a new upstart studio. Giving Kojima the opportunity to dip his toes into the independent studio route.

Timed exclusivity deals never affect or create games, they only alleviate marketing & publishing budgets and yank games from other platforms. Full exclusivity & console exclusivity creates actual new games that may not have existed otherwise.

No levelheaded Sony gamers complained about MS creating Ryse w/ Crytek, or DR3 w/ Capcom, Quantum Break w/ Remedy, etc. They took issue w/ Square yanking RotTR off of Sony platforms for a year when the series has a long history of simultaneously multiplat releases.

Not buying exclusivity? What you said is exactly what Crystal Dynamics said about Tomb Raider. Kojima could have gone anywhere and with his signature gotten the money he needed. Sony bought exclusivity. Just like they've done many times in the past. The only difference between this and what Microsoft does is it's not Microsoft doing it. That and many Sony fans being such good liars they have themselves fooled. Titanfall also comes to mind.

Exclusivity hurts games when they go to Xbox first. Again see Titanfall and Tomb Raider. If buying exclusivity is going to be a thing you accept it when it hits you as well as when it's the other person. But Sony fans can't accept a loss. Only immature or mentally unstable people can't accept to lose the game sometimes. Only, only Sony fans throw tantrums.

That's not what I said at all. There is an actual practical difference between timed exclusivity and console exclusivity, that much is plain & obvious. When a company funds development, they get exclusivity...when a company funds lesser costs like marketing, they get timed exclusivity. One actively pulls a game from other platforms, the other creates one out of thin air. Sure Kojima could've went to a dozen different backers and most likely have gotten the funds he needed for this game, but he didn't, he chose to go with Sony because he obviously felt that was the best option for his game.

As a for instance, Spencer has said on many occasions that he typically asks for some kind of online mp component for his game, so maybe he went to MS & they required that...maybe he wanted a fully offline campaign and Sony would allow that. That's one plausible scenario. There's also the idea that looking at the sales (according to VGChartz, so not necessarily the best option, but the only one we have), MGSV sold 2.5 mill on Ps4 & only 500k on XBO. If Kojima wanted to get out from under the third party wing of companies like Konami (all of whom typically require the rights to the IP or a full contract), he picked the platform that would get his game out to the most people, end of story. If this was a timed exclusive deal I would be the first to speak out against it...didn't appreciate the TR timed exclusive, wouldn't appreciate it elsewhere. But I've never had an issue w/ situations like Bayonetta 2 on Nintendo, Alan Wake on 360, etc. because the games wouldn't exist in those forms w/o those specific platforms involvement.

Without a doubt the best possible way to break off on his own. It's a very interesting future where he takes his own company and creative ideas. I for one am hoping all goes well. People know Sony allows creativity so it's a perfect storm it feels like.
