CD Projekt CEO Gives Details on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3

CGM Writes: It is not often in gaming to see the CEO of a publisher or developer to be blunt about plans and internal workings. There is often a layer of PR separating audience from the internal workings of these companies. Yet, it sometimes happens, and when it does we are given a glimpse at the minds behind the curtain.

CDPR deserve all the monies. They are running a gamer-friendly business and making a killing doing it. More power to them!

HammadTheBeast3063d ago

The work they put into Witcher 3 after release is also great. They literally put in a whole new inventory system after listening to feedback and added in a ton of stuff.

thekhurg3063d ago (Edited 3063d ago )

These guys are so passionate about game development. I hope the success of Witcher 3 doesn't cause them to become deadline junkies.

I want them to continue doing what they do - no need to rush stuff.

Sashamaz3063d ago

The great war in Fallout 4 happened in 2077 so based purely on that, this game is going to be an atomic success...:)

ThunderPulse3063d ago

EA should take some notes from this guy.

Dabigsiebowski3063d ago

As well as Ubisoft & Activision. All 3 are just as bad as another.

Dabigsiebowski3063d ago

They really do deserve all the money. If they can keep their vision of today and sell enough games to expand more development studios and release more big AAA titles then we could actually start putting pressure on these other publishers. Yes I know they are a developer but they could always grow.

medman3063d ago

I've never played a Witcher game, mainly because the sword/magic gameplay style isn't my cup of tea. I appreciate the world building and the intricacies of detail CD projekt puts into their games, I've just never yet played one, although I do have The Witcher 2 sitting on my 360 (via games with gold) that I may play one day.

Having said all that, I am certainly looking forward to Cyberpunk, as that game is more in line with my gameplay tastes. It will be my first CD projekt title I buy, and I'm really excited for it.

UltraNova3062d ago

"Adam Kicinski also managed to give players a view of how the company views its fan base, with the statement, “I know we are on a business TV, so I am going to use the word “Client”, however internally we don’t use such nomenclature. They are gamers to us. We are trying to quickly fix any wrongs/problems and want players to talk to us as equals. And that’s how we really look at things – I’m not saying it just because I’m in TV. We don’t want to exploit gamers for their money (which is what many other gaming companies do) and that’s why we don’t want to become a part of a larger structure.”"

That^^^ if he truly means that then, RESPECT to the man and CD Project Red.

I think being bought by a company like EA is good thing. It allows them to expand the team and cut the dev times considerably. Same reason I want Remedy to get with a publisher. People harp on EA a lot, but Bioware has made some outstanding games under that umbrella and up until Battlefront and the performance issues on Battlefield I can say Dice has made some great shooters.

Perjoss3063d ago

Being bought by a company like EA is never a good thing.

cfc833063d ago (Edited 3063d ago )

NOOOOOOOooooooooo. It wouldn't really be as CDPR can pay for their own games off their own work, plus they're now established enough to let their games do the talking. EA can offer nothing to the quality aspect of any CDPR product.

retrogamer093063d ago

Problem is that for devs like CDPR they have to take risks on these games. If no one bought the Witcher 3 then that studio would've went out of business. They're probably pouring even more money into Cyberpunk and that's a completely new IP. What happens if that under performs? Having a publisher like EA guarantees financial security and helps get your games out faster and helps you staff up. I can't even imagine what crunch time could've been like for a studio of that size making an open world RPG.

Omnisonne3063d ago

"Problem is that for devs like CDPR they have to take risks on these games. If no one bought the Witcher 3 then that studio would've went out of business."

That basically goes for every studio though doesn't it?
CDPR have been very consumer friendly so far, and somehow I doubt it will remain that way once EA pulls the strings

badz1493062d ago

@retrogamer09

Don't you worry about Cyberpunk. CDPR is pretty much like Bethesda now. Nah...maybe not as huge but they have enough fans. Cyberpunk will do just fine because of that.

Tdmd3063d ago

Noooooooooooo! Booooooooooo!! They are fine on their own, just look at what they accomplished with TW3!

Maxor3063d ago

It would be impossible to create a game like The Witcher 3 under EA.

DreadGara3063d ago

They're screwing their games big time already. Can't imagine what would happen to The Witcher if it went under EA claws....

Roccetarius3063d ago (Edited 3063d ago )

@Deadgara, indeed. You saw what happeend from reveal to release with W3, and how they were dodging questions plus misleading customers. EA would just make that even worse.

Cyberpunk is their chance to redeem themselves, otherwise i'll just ignore them in the future until a sale.

If the rumor about a late 2016 release is true, then that would be suicidal for a game more ambitious than W3.

Ausbo3063d ago

Biowares games were actually better when they were independent. The Microsoft published games (kotor, mass effect 1) were just better. After EA bought bio ware, thier games weren't bad but they shifted from top notch RPGs to action games.

Roccetarius3063d ago

Indeed, we'll never know what would've happened, if MS had taken the initiative instead of EA. Maybe they would've even had proper time to create ME2 as well.

TheRacingX3063d ago

Became more cookie cutter

Jalva3063d ago

Go home retrogamer09, you're drunk.

Axonometri3063d ago

Did you just say being bought by EA, would be a good thing, for them? ?

HammadTheBeast3063d ago

If they got bought by EA, those $15 expansions they're releasing will become Witcher 4 and 5.

ThunderPulse3063d ago

Don't forget the season pass would be $50.

ShottyGibs3063d ago

@ retrogamer09

So many "what if's" in what you've wrote. What if the sky falls in?
You'd rather EA own CDPR than them actually make good games?

Do you want every game to be a EA - DLC Season Pass fest?

Nivekki3063d ago

Stfu retrogamer09, seriously. If there's one company I don't want to be purchased, it's CD Projekt. They're doing fine by themselves.

I know you're just saying it to get a rise out of people, but don't tempt fate.

NovaCorps3063d ago (Edited 3063d ago )

just no...look at bioware before "BB,kotor,dragon age origins,jade empire,ME1"
and look at them since EA bought them....

retrogamer093063d ago

i am looking at them. Mass Effect 2 and 3 are outstanding and Dragon Age Inquisition is one of the best western RPG's I've played in years.

cfc833063d ago

Must have done quite a bit of work on cp2077 if they have a release date on their minds. Bring it.

jb2273063d ago

Saw a rumor the other day that pegged it for a 2016 release, which would be crazy...I'm not big on fantasy settings so I skipped TW3 but I'm absolutely dying to play CyberPunk, that game looks all kinds of interesting.

cfc833063d ago

They said they still have plans to make more money from Witcher next year. I'd say Cyberpunk won't be available till late 2017/early 2018 as things stand. It's going to be a huge in size.

MilkMan3063d ago

CD-P, in my mind they are a bastion of hope in a see of bullcrap thats become gaming. Keep up the good work.

Chaos_Raiden3063d ago

Will definitely support CD Projekt Red. Great developer.

Well they are using unreal engine now thanks to there work culture and horrific job on making cyberpunk so for the future no impact.

just_looken6d ago

7 disagrees shows how many look at one dlc that had a rip off fight from ghost in the shell and goes wow what a goat team i love cdpr while ignoring that they only made 2 games that were good witcher 2/3 in 20yrs.

But its a new world we want a criminal that support's legal murder as president/support shoplifting love toxic work environments and have a mass casualty event every other day.

GhostMirror6d ago

I’ll admit I didn’t play it at launch, but Cyberpunk 2077 is a really good game now.

And who the hell knows what you’re even going on about in your second paragraph here.

EazyC7d ago

Wait a min...I swear to god CP2077's source code got leaked before. CDPR needs to stop using "password123" for all their accounts 😅

just_looken6d ago

Na its hundreds ex employees no doubt just getting there revenge.

Profchaos6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

This is the same leak the threat actors have been trying to sell the source code after cd project didn't pay the ransom.

They didn't manage to sell the source code to any company largely because it would be unethical for say EA to buy it so the threat actors failed to find a buyer.

After they failed to make any money they went through with their threat of simply giving it away.

They will need to add everything they promised in the first one and not over promise on the second one.

just_looken7d ago

They also need to drop esg then hire employees that have knowledge not hire them because they have a set of tits.

Official video they hired people to fill the esg clipboard

Hofstaderman7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

As somebody who has been playing the tabletop games since the 90s and was let down on launch by my PS4 version, you can bet I'm not going the preorder any sequel.

nmbr1esq7d ago

3rd person option, and everything else that was originally promised. Next don't force agenda driven naratives. Finally, release a finished product without need for day one patches.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave23d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan23d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
