Christmas Comes Early for RPG Fans as Final Fantasy VI Hits Steam Next Week

Here are the details on Final Fantasy VI's launch on Steam.

Believe it or not, but I've never played a FF game. I want to get into them, but at this point it's so intimidating with how many story lines there are. Anyone have advice for new players like me? Would FFVI be ok to start or is it in the middle of a story line?

Besides the few direct sequels to final fantasy games ie FFX-2 or FFXIII-2 or 3, you are good to go to start on any Final Fantasy game you would like too. Some good starters I would suggest would be VI, VII, IX or X.

There's no follow on story lines between different numbers. 10 2 is a sequal to 10 and there are 3 13s. Other than that you can play any of em and you're good. Personally I think 7 and 9 and are very very good. Not a fan of 8 or 10. 6 is supposed to be very good too but I only played the beginning. If you have a ps4 ff7 is on there for a tenner or there abouts. It was the first one I played and became my favourite game of all time. Others will disagree of course because it's all preference but I can't recommend it enough.

Thx a7xgemini, that's info I didn't know. I've always heard good things about VI and VII which is why I kinda wanted to start there but wasn't sure about the story line.

@ninsigma, no PS4 yet. Thank for the info, I'm getting excited now to start playing these games for the first time!

No worries dude. The old games were great. Wasn't the biggest fan of 10 but 12 I hated as well as 13.
Can't go wrong with the ps1 era games :)

VIII was the best, than VII, than IX - IMO.

I would start in 9.. but if you could handle or prefer sprites, I suggest 6 or 4. Those are my most favorite ones. FF 7 & 8 has a more serious dark toned story. 5 if you don't care about story and want mix and match jobclasses. 10 if you want straight balanced storytelling from start to finish. Tactics if you are patient and a bit masochist. I don't recommend 12 & 13 because they really opinionated from person to person, and kinda lost the original FF feel.

It's my fav FF... well right after FF8 anyway!

FF6 has a great cast/story, and a villain that puts most villains to shame.

The OST just makes my heart melt everytime...

Christmas comes early, but when you open the present its the sweater your Aunt Doris knit for you with that horrible looking reindeer on the front instead of that slick jacket you'd been looking at... I know at least one person who will be very happy about this though

I'd like to see this and the rest of the ps1 ffs come to ps4. It's nice that they are reviving all the old games and buying on steam will mean you'll never lose it unless steam closes down but what are the odds of that??

Can't wait for this! Also FF X was leaked two days ago for Steam release! Soooooo got that to look forward to. Already played it on PS2 and PS3, but I can't wait to play it again.

Everyone seems to believe that the Half Life 3 bit has to be fake. Or maybe that Valve will forever have a placeholder in their system for it in case they do plan on making it. Some of the games are slowly being announced, though.
