IGN Xenoblade Chronicles X Review

the massive scale of Xenoblade Chronicles X still amazes me. The tumultuous alien world is an artistically breathtaking landscape full of hostile foes to fight, terrain to explore, and a near-endless supply of quests to complete. It’s a long and sometimes grindy road, but the powerful mechs you eventually unlock make fighting and exploring in the hostile open reward of this action roleplaying game both rewarding and immersive.

Looks interesting

iplay1up23076d ago (Edited 3076d ago )

Very interesting, I am 12 hours in and have not even left the first area, its huge. Also the way I am playing I am trying to discover new "landmarks" such as beaches, lakes, etc. That is my main "job" to plant probes as I search out different regions so they can be mapped out..

Graphically, there are truly some epic looking landscapes full of life. There are also some misses, all in all I am loving it!! Best game I have played in years.

Sonyslave33076d ago

Wow I don't get ign at all give Call of duty a 9 and give this baby here a 8.2 a open world game that put Fallout 4 and Gta to shame.

_-EDMIX-_3076d ago

....maybe its just not that good of a game. Got around the same score as Battlefront.

smh, looks like I'm not getting it as reviews are matter of fact and base if the game is good or not.

Pre-order cancelled.

Bimkoblerutso3076d ago (Edited 3076d ago )

Hmmm. Canceling a preorder for a game hitting an aggregate score in the mid-80's seems very troll-baity to me. Not that the score matters in the first place...

The franchise took a couple of steps back, but a bunch more steps forward. The only thing I have a problem with in this game is the weirdness that goes along with having a silent protagonist and the story pacing. If you want epic, though, there is nothing else like it out there.

Eiyuuou3076d ago (Edited 3076d ago )

Looks like people didn't get that you were being ironic.

_-EDMIX-_3076d ago

@Bimk- lolz yes I'm just joking. Don't ever not buy a game based on a review.

Agreed too, playing the Japanese import and so far loving it. My buddy will likely get the English version as I think he already has it pre-ordered.

user99502793076d ago

@Bim

this here is what we in Canada like to refer to as "sarcasm".

iplay1up23076d ago

I am playing it, its fantastic. Also there have been plenty of stellar reviews as well as "matter of fact"....

Also look at the reviewers history, chances are if they don't like Nintendo, it would have been given a better score if released on another console.

iplay1up23076d ago

The first paragraph
" breathtaking views " "full of hostile life to fight" and an 8.2 from IGN, so you say you cancelled pre order. LMAO

One, bet you never had a pre order!

Two, bet you dont have a Wii U!

Bimkoblerutso3076d ago

Man...I think I've been reading so much internet trolling that I can't pick up on sarcasm anymore.

jayzablade3075d ago (Edited 3075d ago )

I cancelled my pre-order. Not enough brown and grey's

You don't get it because you refuse to use your brain and put things in context

styferion3076d ago

well they give evolve a 9, lol.

roboshort3075d ago

Call of Duty games are polished, well-made games. But that should be given since it is incredibly formulaic. Xenoblade X has a number of flaws. However, Call of Duty should lose points for being incredibly derivative, while Xenoblade X should gain points for its novelty and providing a fresher experience.

Too much exploration!

8.2

_-EDMIX-_3076d ago

Too much empty.

...fixed.

5.3

acekaze3076d ago

Wow dude, so much spite for the game, seems your really jelly

Philface3076d ago

@acekaze No he just loves to hate about this game. (he actually likes it)

_-EDMIX-_3076d ago

lol, Philface is actually correct.

Though I'm always talking about how bad it is and empty it is, I actually really like the game. lol

I only have a small few complaints that I feel will be fixed with a sequel or something. I never would have played as much as I did, if my buddy didn't have the Japanese import. I actually got him into the Xeno series with Xenogears and Xenosaga and he is now a bigger fan of it then I am, seriously lol.

He got well over 200 hours in Xenoblade and on this Japanese import has close to that much so far if not more then Xenoblade.

Took me a bit to get into, but I see me getting it once I get a Wii U or I might wait til I see what NX is if it has Wii U support.

yuukiliu3076d ago

I have not actually played but have watched a few hours online. Looks like a GREAT JRPG...but! The English voice acting is horrendous. 70 + hour story having the listen to that would be a pain. Worth the pain, but an unnecessary pain.

_-EDMIX-_3076d ago

I've played many with bad voice acting and I'm not sure how much of a deal breaker it is, I mean...I liked FFX's voice acting lol

It was all we had at the time people! I haven't heard what it sounds like in English yet though, but I was fine with Xenosaga's voice acting in all 3 games.

TheDivine3076d ago

Game rocks so far. I really HATE the voiceless MC though. Should've had two seperate voice actors for male and female so we could have a personality. Its abysmal having a conversation grind to a halt to answer yes and no while your character shakes his head like a deaf dumb mute. Also dislike the lack of story. We went from epic jrpg adventure to plant probes and save money for a skell. Rinse and repeat for 100 hours.

It's still huge, beautiful, and tons of fun but it seems like they left out the story so they could have an avatar instead of letting you create your own MC while having voice acting and a story like Mass Effect or Fallout 4. Japan is incredibly behind the times and incredibly inspired in other aspects. This game is a perfect example. I'd also love more world building. Setting up outposts, expanding them into FOB's, then in time small towns and eventually a city. Would've been addictive to build them up and customize everything.

It really does feel like the style and soul of Xenosaga with the open world and combat of Xenoblade. Def diggin the scifi vibes and epic space saga setting. Wish we would've gotten to play the sequence on the ship and fight the battle before they crash landed. Would've been a good Xenosaga throwback. Running around the ship until it gets attacked. Nostalgia overload.

Neckbear3076d ago

"It's still huge, beautiful, and tons of fun but it seems like they left out the story so they could have an avatar instead of letting you create your own MC"

Wait until Chapter 5...

SlightlyRetarted3075d ago

"Japan is incredibly behind the times and incredibly inspired in other aspects."

Well said, Japanese seem to lack behind in voice-acting, facial animations, textures etc. Stuff that makes characters believable. The gap is getting bigger and bigger, while western game studios push face mo-cap and body mo-cap to the next level game after game. Small details like these make japanese games look and feel dated sometimes. FF7 remake new trailer had scenes where people looked like talking fishes. Mouth doing open/closed motion, while character was speaking.

What Japanese games are good at is gameplay. If there is ever a game that has unique or different gameplay elements, it's usually japanese. Platinums action games, From Softwares Souls games etc. Games where you need to master some elements, before you can enjoy them fully.

Yea. I own it but don’t want to pull out the Wii U

Zeldafan64326d ago

I never unplugged my Wii U. Still play it almost daily but a definitive edition of X would be appreciated.

jznrpg326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

It’s one of the systems I have the least games for . Though there are some really good games on it. I have systems from Atari’s , Nintendo’s, Segas , TurboGrafx 16 , PS’s etc etc so I put a few in my game storage room. I do pull it out from time to time and I have a new one in a box but won’t open that .
But I’d really like to have a Chronicles X but not on Switch whatever the next console is preferably so they can add more quality to it .

Zeldafan64325d ago

Lucky, you didn't need to explain that.

Zeldafan64326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

Playing X at 1080/60 would be great so waiting for the Switch successor would be ideal but it wouldn't be smart to make it a launch game. It would suck waiting til 2025 to get X definitive edition but I think that's what will happen.

I know people say Wii U has no games but I've got over 100 games for it.

luckytrouble326d ago

I mean, when people say a system has "no games" they aren't saying the system literally had no games released on it. They're more commenting on the state of games that make the system worth owning. For many the Wii U never had a game that made the system worth owning, or if it did, it has a Switch port or successor at this point anyways so they were effectively proven correct to have never purchased a Wii U in the first place.

Yes, depending on the individual the Wii U remains worth owning for the handful of games still locked to it, but for many they'd rather just wait to see what else gets ported in the future at this point. There is exceptionally little you can only play on a Wii U these days though, especially with the eShop dead so anything that may have existed only on it is no longer of consequence to non-Wii U owners.

chaos999326d ago

They said it cost too much time to remap controls unfortunately

luckytrouble326d ago

In all fairness, that's probably a reason they're passing on a few of the still Wii U locked games. Starfox Zero, among the reasons you may not want to port it, would need its entire control scheme reworked from the ground up. Chronicles X may not be as extreme of a case (I don't know, I've never played or watched gameplay), but often unless a game is going to sell really well, it can be hard to convince a company to do more than the basic expected remaster work. Heck, a lot of people figure the only reason we got Galaxy 1 in the 3D All Stars collection for example is because they had already done the work for the Nvidia Shield port for China, which subsequently is likely the major reason they didn't include Galaxy 2. They simply did not want to remap the game controls. It may sound silly since it sounds so simple just by the words, but you have to figure more goes into it than you're probably thinking if it's that much of a sticking point.

DefaultComment326d ago

Yes, I agree. We definitely need to retake Xenoblade Chronicles X which btw it left us on a cliffhanger suggesting there wiull be a XCX2 .... and im up for it.

isarai326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

I put so many hours into X, just please ad a music volume setting was going crazy walking around base and hearing

"UH UH... YEAH!.. YEAH!...YEAHYEAHYEEEEAAAAH!..U H UH!"

FinalFantasyFanatic325d ago

I can't believe they haven't done it yet, it's the Xenoblade game I'm most excited for, I would buy it in a heart beat.

I wish The Last Story would make a comeback.I played it years before I got around to Xenoblade. Mainly because of the scalping going on because of Xeno's limited run. It took me a few tries to get into it but once I did I couldn't put it down. A Wii hidden gem for sure.

pietro1212763d ago

As much as I love Xenoblade, Last Story was the better game IMO. I wish Nintendo would remaster or simply port the game onto the Switch.

porkChop764d ago

Xenoblade went on to be a really successful franchise too.

pietro1212764d ago

I wish the Last Story get a Switch remaster or remake. That game deserves a second chance

If they're not important enough to be held on their own official storefront then they're not important enough to give your money to Nintendo.

Buy these, physically, used or simply emulate them.

This article comes off as nothing more than advertising games that Nintendo, themselves, don't care to offer you... buy now!

ocelot07805d ago

Wait hang on where all the outrage? I swear when Sony tried to do this with PS3 last year. There was outrage from all corners of the gaming universe.

Why does no one care Nintendo is doing it?

MadLad805d ago (Edited 805d ago )

There has been.
A lot of it.

Simply type in "3DS" in Google and tell me what you see.

ocelot07805d ago

Oh I have a fair few websites reporting on it. But where is the outcry on here? I remember their was 2-3 approved top voted articles when Sony announced they where closing the PS3 store. All slating them and not caring about customers.

I should of worded it better. Where is all the outrage on n4g?

MadLad805d ago (Edited 805d ago )

N4G is a fanboy site, mainly frequented by only Sony.
Microsoft is their direct competition, so you'll typically only see articles that are made to rile up those fanbases.

Nintendo does it's own thing, so they're rarely brought up, aside from their fans. The most you get is the same typical two or three posters claiming Nintendo is only for infants.

If you come to N4G for educated discourse and reasonable discussion, this isn't the place. Sad as it is.

pietro1212805d ago

It's lame that it is shutting down. Now I feel rushed buying all the rpgs I missed out on the system.

XxINFERNUSxX804d ago

You guys know that even archive.org has 3DS roms, and all other console roms. I'm downloading 846GB of 3DS roms and will add the best games to my soon to be soft modded New 3DS 😁. Might as well throw in DS and other emulators in there to. Guys this would be the best way to play and enjoy the 3DS. Just need to buy a bigger micro SD card and format it to FAT32, which you can if it's even 256GB or larger there are ways.

XxINFERNUSxX804d ago

This should help if you want to soft mod it excellent guide and up to the latest and probably last 3DS firmware update: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
